We definitely need to work towards a future where no humans have to do mundane repetitive manual work.

We just have to be careful that people don't loose out too badly in the transition.

Once AI comes along there will be all sorts of horrible jobs we can give to robots, leaving the creative and challenging jobs for ourselves.

If we can get to the point were all the goods we need are produced and delivered automatically, work itself might even become optional. :)

it seems like there's some data missing here...

30,000 devices... in ... what? hours? days? weeks? months? does it drop dead after the 30,000th device, like some kind of strange death mechanism, before it realizes its leading a hollow, meaningless existence and offs itself by by plugging itself into a counterfeit chinese wall charger and exploding? Or is it like a Replicant out of Blade Runner, implanted with the memories of a dead assembly line worker in order for it to not question its purpose in life, and after 30,000 devices assembled, it has to be programmed to self-destruct before it realizes its place and rises up against its human oppressors?

do tell more...

they self-destruct, melt, and the materials are re-used for the next generation devices.

Doubling down on security? Goodbye finished part leaks? Let's hope so... Cool stuff.

It won't stop the leaks. It would make it worse actually. There would be a different leak design every other day and I doubt Macrumors would stop. Look at all the ridiculous iWatch leaks and concept videos floating around.

Most of these robots are Made in Japan, Sweden, and other European countries - most by Kawasaki / Fuji Heavy Industries. Funny how the Chinese rely on European countries and Japan for all their equipment.

Ah, so my terrible joke didn't even make sense.

When all our jobs are done by robots we won't have money to buy iPhones

There's always prostitution and pimping. Those jobs should be safe for a few more years. Who wants to have romantic interactions with a robot?

There are many people who are not intelligent or privileged to have a educated life. Or some people that don't mind doing repetitive work as long as they make a good living. What happens to the person who cannot function in your utopia such as the mentally handicap? They may not be able to make $30,000 plus a year doing intelligent/creative work but I'd rather have them working manual labor than relying on government assistance or living on the street like a bum. Just because you find manual labor to mundane and repetitive does not make it bad. Sometimes this is all that people can do to survive.

Anyone who looses their job because it's replaced by one of these robots should just get a job at the factory where they make these robots ;)

Why not have robots make robots? That would save even more money.

Everybody must get stoned.

"We should think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone--an image made by man's design and skill."

How is stone an image made by mankind? I can see that you might be saying that gold and silver don't exist naturally in large pure deposits ( here on Earth ) and need a bit of smelting, but seems to me that stone is just lying around in most places just waiting around to be eroded into sand.

Look, I'm not some kind of rockologist, but I think you need to clarifying things further or else you sound kinda childish.

other robots?

Easy to be positive when you don't have to worry about a job to support yourself...and perhaps a family.

See how cheerful and positive you find it then.

I wouldn't worry, the robot building factories will probably snap up all the staff with their new, increased demand...

whole watermelon ( including the rind )

Yesterday, I saw a youtube video of a man ( 100% human sapian ) eat a whole water-mellon including the rind!

Would I have spent the same amount of time watching a robot eat a whole water-mellon, no, no I would not!

From this one golden nugget of an example, we should all feel safe to extrapolate freely and decide that there will ALWAYS be things that humans can do that robots can not.

( in this case, the thing the robot can't do is impress me by eating a watermelon whole [ including the rind ] )

All the posters who complain all the time that Apple shouldn't use "slave labour" in China will surely be rejoicing. Or maybe it will be a wakeup call for them that these are jobs that people actually want.

You know that how? Because they've lived their lives in misery and it's easy to woo people with crappy, low paying, slave like jobs when they are down and out as is. That's why companies always try to find the most miserable places on Earth to make things. It's EASY to make it "look good" for the company when they throw pennies at people who have nothing and call it improving their lives. It's a total racket and everyone knows it.

That being said, at least the robots won't commit suicide and jump off the buildings and apple can save money on nets outside. The share holders will love that! More profit! :p

Look again at what gnasher729 said.

1) He pointed out that people who openly state that Apple shouldn't use 'slave labour' will be happy with the robot replacements. ( this seems a logical conclusion to draw, so I am assuming you agree with him on this point. )

2) He asked a question, wether or not it would be a 'wakeup call' for them that people actually want these jobs.

He doesn't really say that HE thinks people don't want those jobs, although he does seem to imply it. So, seeing as he's just asking a question, you could just reply with your own views without all the 'you know that how?....' stuff.

IF YOU DON'T AGREE YOU ARE A BAD PERSON!

We actually do have less employment in the U.S. now than in the 1950s, and our natural rate of unemployment is higher. But the causes of that cannot be assumed.
Sheer nonsense. Unemployment in the 50s varied between 3-7%. We were as low as 4% as recently as the year 2000. We are also nowhere near 1930s level. Look at an actually longterm graph of unemployment and there is no clear increase. Trying to cherry pick one data point is silly.

Haha, I like the idea that the robots self combust when they get to their 30,000th device. It's like, "Well, job's done." BOOM

There are many people who are not intelligent or privileged to have a educated life.

My point is we should try and change that. I don't think many people are just naturally unintelligent, they just haven't had the kind of privileged upbringing we have enjoyed ourselves. Nobody would do this kind of work if they could avoid it.

Unfortunately the way global society is currently set up tends to trap people in poverty. Rich people 'need' poor people to do this kind of work for them, but if machines can do it instead, there is no longer any need for human exploitation.

I'm not saying it is going to be easy but we should at least try to give everyone on Earth a chance to achieve the high standard of living that we enjoy in the west. The way to do this is by providing high quality 'free' education to everyone as well as decent infrastructure, clean water, roads, internet, housing, healthcare etc.

I've uncovered the new source of grainy image leaks:
