Am I the only one that will be sorely disappointed if the new iPhone is just a bump after waiting so long? I would've been ok with a bump had it gone on sale back in July, but these extra few months better mean a new product.

No i'm right there with you. well i guess it depends on the "bump" and specs. i'll still get one either way, but why put it off so long for nothing?

I doubt it's a bump though... with all the crazy rumors we have seen lately, it's pretty much stated they will have a "Bumped" iPhone4(s?) and the iPhone 5 as well. should be a rockin announcement. now they just need to get on with it!

It would take about 6 days for 1 million units to be shipped at this rate. I hope it's more than 150,000 units though. 152,000 would be great.

what defines "New" to you? A redesign?

No, Apple, take your time, get it right. Only a fool would want you to rush anything out door, particular the product that generates over half of your revenue and has your fattest margins.

Agreed, but this iPhone in particular is taking far longer to get out the door than earlier models. I almost wonder if the hardware is ready, and perhaps they're just fine tuning the software.

Probably, just like the iPad 2.

I cannot imagine the hardware not being ready at this point. They have given themselves an extra 4 months, so if it's not ready now, then I can't imagine an October launch happening.

More likely, they are putting extra time in getting iOS5 ready for primetime, which is a very good thing. I am very antsy for a new phone and want it yesterday, but we all know what happens when Apple releases an iOS update that wasn't fully-baked.

they have already started iphone 5 production and we haven't seen one LEGIT leak photo of it? Amazing...

Probably because it's just a slightly faster chip and a slightly better camera inside the same casing as an iPhone 4.

The simplest explanation is is that no one is leaking photos of it because there's nothing new to see.

Well, remember how people from China to the US were sued for iPhone 4 and iPad 2? Some were fined thousands of dollars, some went to jail, and at minimum a lot lost their jobs? Yea, I don't think anyone is willing to cross this bridge again, just to entertain the web community.

Don't underestimate desperation in light of poverty. If someone needs some cash and a gadget blog is willing to pay $1k for leaked photos, it might seem like a reasonable gamble for someone in need of cash.

Honestly, "new" to me means bigger screen and better camera. I like the Iphone 4 design, but I'd appreciate a larger screen. A5 and possibly more RAM are both a given at this point in the history of iPhone updates. Maybe I've given my hopes up for a larger display.

How many mock-ups have we seen thus far, like 50? What if we have already seen it? What if one of the many "renderings" is really the iPhone 5? Not likely, but it would be an interesting realization at the announcement event.

no more wait

the good thing about that is the white iPhone 5 model will be available in the launch, so we won't have to wait after launch to white models coming as what happened with the iPhone 4.

aaaand here we go.

I'm glad we're getting past the "what does it look like?!?" rumors and getting into the production and when we are going to hear from Apple rumors. I'm ready! what do you guys think??? media event next week? week after??? i'm hoping the 14th!

Speculation seems to suggest that invitations should go out on Sept 14, with the event to happen on Sept 21. As mentioned, this is only guesswork based on patterns of behavior regarding previous announcements. Either way, we should know more soon.

I don't know about Foxconn, but MacRumors seems like it's hitting 150,000 Rumors per day. Can't we consolidate all of these into a single "We have nothing really of value to say, but let's post it anyway" tab ?

Seriously, at this point, the iPhone 5 is a 2.5" device with a 5" screen, it has a tapered and very slim design that is the same as the iPhone 4's case with a LTE world chip available in seperate GSM and CDMA models with only HSPA+ running off a single core Cortex A8 processor that is the A5 found in the iPad 2.

(Yes, I know none of that makes sense... kind of the point of what I'm trying to say).

It's to the point where it's not even rumors anymore, it's just idle speculation about everything, nothing and anything Apple could do.

Well, Might as well post something, Than nothing for a week.

I have a strong feeling that the hardware is done; there are reports that Apple's manufacturers are actually producing the handsets, but aren't packaging them, meaning they are probably awaiting the release of iOS 5.

Also, there's a possibility that iCloud is still isn't ready for public consumption. They really want to nail that service rollout right, not bungle it like the MobileMe launch. If I recall correctly, after that debacle, Steve demoted the MobileMe head and moved the group to some other manager.

Not at all. If its just a processor and camera upgrade, I'm not buying. I like the look of the iPhone 4 and had to miss out on launch day but I'm over seeing everyone with that phone. That's not an attack at Apple cuz I know I'm just one person to Apple, but i think many could feel this way ESPECIALLY if your like me who has a 3GS or even an older model.

I'll still get iOS 5 which will run ok on my 3GS but seriously, I'm over looking at this phone. It's been two long, good and bad years but I'm over it. You just get to the point in life for something "new".

The new SGS 2 coming to AT&T looks very promising and I'll still keep my 3GS just for old time sake and for iPod functionality.

All I can say is, after all this MASSIVE media rumour hype up, renderings, talk about camera's, ultra thin cases, larger screens etc etc.....

This better be one dam impressive product else it's going to be the biggest let down ever.

At this point, with all the hype and rumors, no matter what Apple releases you can be sure it will be a let down for some folks who will be vocal about it.

There's just no way anyone can live up to all the hype.

10 Year anniversary of the iPod

Has anyone thought that Apple might wait to announce the new iPhone on the 10 year Anniversary mark of Oct 23rd? Or at least announce it earlier and have them ship on Oct 23rd.

The iPod was the huge item that brought Apple back to mainstream non Mac users.
