Quick, new iPhone 5 rumor straight from Foxconn. iPhone 5 is said to have hologram technology and it will dance for you. You heard it here first.

Has anyone thought that Apple might wait to announce the new iPhone on the 10 year Anniversary mark of Oct 23rd? Or at least announce it earlier and have them ship on Oct 23rd.

The iPod was the huge item that brought Apple back to mainstream non Mac users.

Hum, that would be next year then. It's the Windows compatible iPod that did that, and that one shipped a year after the original Mac only iPod. ;)

Put in a 3.7 inch screen most people will be happy.
Based on the iPhone's continuous top ranking in all of the customer satisfaction surveys, I'd say that the 3.5 inch screen makes most people happy.

Frankly, I doubt if Steve will supersize the iPhone. His aesthetic is small, simple, elegant, and thin. Steve isn't gonna let the iPhone pork out. He's perfectly fine letting a fattie wear someone else's logo.

Are we all just assuming it's going to have the same CPU/GPU as the iPad2, but perhaps clocked down a bit?

Correlation does not imply causation.

Only if the reason people buy the iPhone is for the 3.5" screen. Personally, I would like a bigger screen (and other small bits modified) even though my general appreciation of the iPhone remains satisfactory.

Yes, I know I am. Why would it be anything else ? The carriers around here are all over the "superphones" with "dual core processors for better multi-tasking!".

It's moot. The thing is that it doesn't matter what you or I want in the iPhone screen. It's about what Steve likes.

He has seen larger screens, probably on iPhone prototypes in some lab in Cupertino. However, Steve likes the 3.5" screen which is why each successive iPhone has the same size screen. Steve's the guy who green lights the final design.

That's the most plausible scenario.

So... if the iPhone 5 comes with a bigger screen... will you be needing help removing the foot from your mouth ? ;)

It's about trends. Bigger screens have really come unto the radar after the iPhone 4 introduction. It's now a big feature in 2011. Same like higher than 480x320 resolution. Back when they introduced the 3GS, only the highest of the high end model Androids announced were with 800x480 resolution, the standard being the iPhone resolution of 480x320. The iPhone 4 bumped up the resolution to stay within the market.

There's good cause to believe a screen size bump could be due. Especially considering it's one of the weak points (smaller screen = more zooming).

I don't know about Foxconn, but MacRumors seems like it's hitting 150,000 Rumors per day. Can't we consolidate all of these into a single "We have nothing really of value to say, but let's post it anyway" tab ?

Seriously, at this point, the iPhone 5 is a 2.5" device with a 5" screen, it has a tapered and very slim design that is the same as the iPhone 4's case with a LTE world chip available in seperate GSM and CDMA models with only HSPA+ running off a single core Cortex A8 processor that is the A5 found in the iPad 2.

(Yes, I know none of that makes sense... kind of the point of what I'm trying to say).

It's to the point where it's not even rumors anymore, it's just idle speculation about everything, nothing and anything Apple could do.

LOL after I stopped laughing for a while about how funny this post is written I have to say - yes I fully agree - it's getting ridiculous :D

I'd like Chromatic models like the iPod Nano myself. But that would probably be a couple too many SKUs for Apple.

This is not "Rumors", this is "Speculation". Rumors tend to have a basis in evidence. At this point, all the different and contradicting "rumors" are just mere speculation by different blogs. A single aggregate thread for all of these would be sufficient.

Rumor defined:
1. unverified report - a generally circulated story, report, or statement without facts to confirm its truth
2. idle speculation - general talk or opinions of uncertain reliability

That's History, we are moving in the future "Post-Steve" era now.

I'm looking forward to some larger screens from now on.
Sure, offer the current small screen also as an option, but let's have some other larger models to select from.

I have a strong feeling that the hardware is done; there are reports that Apple's manufacturers are actually producing the handsets, but aren't packaging them, meaning they are probably awaiting the release of iOS 5.

Also, there's a possibility that iCloud is still isn't ready for public consumption. They really want to nail that service rollout right, not bungle it like the MobileMe launch. If I recall correctly, after that debacle, Steve demoted the MobileMe head and moved the group to some other manager.

What little of iCloud that is already working in the beta IOS 5 works pretty well. iMessage is fantastic

No, I've had plenty of practice.

Yeah, however the fifth generation iPhone is already in the can. If the new leadership wants to increase the screen size, they can starting with the sixth generation device. It's too late to make a change to a device that's presumably shipping next month.

So I guess the real sign of when the device will be ready or near completion is when iOS 5 is ready. which I imagine has to be pretty soon at this point.

I think Apple can use a 3.7 inch screen without making the phone any bigger. :)

Apart from the fact that Steve owns Tim Cook...

Oh, it's going to be a sad day if, after all this frenzied expectation, we don't get a redesign.

I wish they just release the damned phone already... I figure it's going to take a couple months just to get my hands on one after it is released. :(

At this point, with all the hype and rumors, no matter what Apple releases you can be sure it will be a let down for some folks who will be vocal about it.

There's just no way anyone can live up to all the hype.

4 inches would go a helluva long way, though...

I see the artists impression is quite well detailed, for example the wonky home button, just like the one on my rather expensive iPad 2 :)
