Most large companies have IRU discounts for a mobile phone company or two. The company I work for gets a discount from AT&T and cricket. So check with your HR department or your company intranet to find out if you get a discount from AT&T. They should tell you how to claim it.

Cheap bastards...

Why are they complaining about an extra $40 over two years?

Was it really that slow of a news day? Idiots... This is why I don't visit their site for news.

It is in fact true though. You end up paying more than you would have last generation, it may just be a progression and what not and nothing to be mad about but that's the truth. You come out paying more money either way you look at it, whether it's through the hardware or the phone plan.

Actually, if you factor in the time value of money you are paying less since you pay a smaller amount up front and pay a little extra over the course of 2 years :)

And this service is still cheaper than Verizon's ridiculous $40 a month data charge.

Really...???

yes really, what did apple or AT&T say that made people expect anything different from what they announced?

Don't buy into rumors that aren't proven if you dont want dissapointment.

Fox is pretty white trash, but it at least made the point that this all is BS. And lets not forget about the 10 dollar gov. tax they add on. I think if the people speak up we will get what we want. F**k corporate America.

Other than the fact that Steve Jobs stood on the stage and said they are drastically cutting the price of the iPhone so that everyone can afford and then later you find out in the fine print that is not the case at all. That in fact the overall cost of ownership is higher in fact. If that's not bait and switch, I don't know what is.

APPLE is not ATT. He did not lie, yes, you can buy a cheaper iPhone, but you have to pay more to ATT. It is good wording.

Sort of like the idiots who but a MacBook Pro or Mac Pro and complain about the cost of the keyboards, mice, UPS, OS upgrade, etc.

---

Heck they really should be complaining about the iPhone and the required 3G plan -- when a large chunk of the customers probably aren't going to be in a 3G service area.

They should be yelling that if the phone works on the older network, why can't I just buy the old service plan and skip the 3G right now.

Being required to pay the extra $40 and not use the new network should suck more.

Now that is just playing around with wording. Especially since you can't buy the iPhone without signing the contract with AT&T. And Jobs knew this completely when he made his presentation.

......Apple isnt AT&T.

The fact is that from Apples side, the price is $199, the service which ISNT apple, is the higher cost.

There is no bait and switch from apple there at all. And AT&T is doing what companies do, making money, especially to offset the nearly $200 dollar hit they take for subsidizing the phone. (waits for "they will still make a profit because of the added costs) well no friggin duh, no company is stupid enough to not turn a profit on a deal they make.

Get over it people, like it? alright buy it. Hate it? then move on and quit whining.

I still don't see any bait and switch, just typical FOX news and a bunch of crybabies.

Steves a business man, he doesn't care about anyone but his empire. The crap part, people will pay, and it will do well. The average pissed off American, you and I, just have to take it. Its absurd

Agreed.

Well actually we don't have to take it. Before the announcement, I had planned on getting an iPhone 3G and let my daughter have my iPhone; but not anymore. In fact, I probably will just get the new HTC Touch Diamond instead and to heck with Apple and the iPhone completely.
