There doesn't seem to be any unique numbers on there. Does the AT&T people type anything (such as account number) in at the store? It seems like people could just print a fake letter saying "free microcell" and get one.

At the bottom it looks like some sort of detachable portion exists, on a few shots I've seen.

This might be a dumb question. But if you are traveling abroad and you have a microcell and an internet connection. Couldn't you use it, and avoid any roaming charges?

No the unit has a GPS in it and the terms of using the device say you can only use it within areas AT&T services.

cant wait to see these flooded on CL and flebay..

new to att since ip4 launch. im not expecting one in the mail but i do want to get a microcell.

i'll wait a lil while for these to jump on CL first.. but if any users here in the los angeles area that gets it... and doesnt want it and would like to sell. pm me and im more than happy to buy it off you for a reasonable price.

I have never dropped a call at my house with AT&T until a month or two ago. Now I drop 1-2 calls/week. I work from home and am on the phone ~4 hours day (my work calls all come from the same # which is on my A-list = no charge in minutes).

I am also out of contract with AT&T as of today.

I called AT&T just now and asked for a free Microcell with no luck (yet). I even mentioned that some people were getting letters in the mail. The rep wanted me to try a new SIM card first. Fortunately, I had a new/unused one lying around the house so he switched it over the phone for me.

I'll give that a try and if I'm still dropping calls, I'm demanding a Microcell for free. I figure (hope) I have a little bargaining power now that I'm out of contract.

My Parents got a Microcell. (we all share a family plan to save money). We have been pretty loyal to atnt, for better or worse lol.

Its great because at their house, they have 1 bar of coverage. You can send a text or even have a facetime call since we have wifi but holding a call is impossible.

Since atnt basically sucks outside of metro areas, well, ever where, they are probably doing this for testing purposes for a possible, cheaper nationwide roll-out. They recently updating the towers outside of the metro areas to be able to interface with a microcell.

I'm interested to see if I get the letter. Premier client, that has used Mark the Spot on numerous occasions at my home location. However I purchased a MicroCell about three months ago, so if they have any kind of BI input into this business decision, I wouldn't be a candidate. My home is large enough that I really could use two, so I'd love to pick up another for free.

They really do work quite well IMHO other than the somewhat limited TX output. I have not been able to test how well the hand-off is though, as the closest 3G tower to my house is about eight miles away.

Worth getting if signal strength in your home is less than solid. (so pretty much 95% of the iPhone customer base :p)

Since they are probably tied to the account, it is unlikely that will work.

I mean sure it will work in that dumb people will buy them, it will just not work for the dumb people trying to redeem them, most likely.

Here is a sample letter from the guy I got it from. Just so you don't think I'm BSing! :) Feel free to email him for your very own!

Umm,... Maybe not wise to post this here? Thanks for sharing the love, but how soon before AT&T catches on that these letters are fake and how much doo doo can you get in for defrauding them with a fake letter?

anyone having problems with sending MMS on the microcell? taking forever to go thru and also failing.

upload seems to be VERY capped @ 56kbps as well.

It could be a while! I mean they still haven't figured out that Apple thinks they suck! lol

You're a fraud. Yesterday you were saying 'email me' and now it's the 'at&t guy'? You are asking $10.00 and the letter will not even work. AT&T is only giving these away in two test markets. If somebody outside those two markets buys your fraudulent letter, they are going to look mighty stupid at AT&T trying to convince them it is legit.

How about you draw up some letters offering free service for 12 months. Heck, make it for life - I'll run it down to AT&T and report my findings!

Thanks, can't wait to hear from you!

A friend of mine received one yesterday. I'm hoping I get one in the mail in the next few days! I could definitely use better reception at home.
