If you have to many things pointing in to many directions it will more than likely run slow, remember it's a simulated windows environment (not emulated which is different) so it's probably getting bottlenecked or something.

I'm pretty sure there's some tweaks you can do to get it running faster.

I will say when Intuit updates the quicken line, my crossover version will be deleted so this is just a welcome quick fix until that happens.
Thanks, I will have to try this again. :)

its free for today only..try it dude!

And also,

Pro - All in one + games
Game - games only

Seriously! Today is like Maconomic Stimulous Day, when it's free and takes less than a few mins to install WHY NOT get it!? No need to ask questions since you don't have to buy.

To quote the good book "... come on take the money and run... WOO WOO WOO"

I hated 2008 for Mac also. I got iWork, but overall I like Office 2007 the best. MS does a lot of things wrong, but IMO they did well on their Office products.

I guess it's all a matter of personal taste. As a fairly heavy user of MS Office at work, I absolutely detest Office 2007. My productivity dropped dramatically when I started to use it, mainly because I just could not find many features that I use regularly. I think Microsoft has spent a lot of time making Office 2007 different to previous versions to help sell upgrades, but they forgot to actually make it better for most regular users. On the other hand, I was able to switch to Office 2008 without any real pain.

Anyway, this is very off topic! I'm looking forward to giving Crossover a try :D

I was wondering the same thing a few days ago when I heard about this. Surely it'll make it sometime today... hopefully.

I hope this program is actually worth all this. Really hope I can replace my VM fusion with crossover.

The people from Digg were able to crash the servers without the help of MR:D

What's the point if I can't access the site?

You can't access the site because they did not foresee the amount of traffic that hit it. Do to the traffic they have extended the time to register to 48 hours. Looks like they are currently working on getting the site back up. I would not be surprised if they were getting a temp server set up.

Install and Activate Today?

I just downloaded them and wondered if I had to install and activate it today? I want to install it later and not necessarily today. Would it still work if I installed it say a month down the road?

Off topic again :).

It took me a few days to get used to 2007 from previous versions, but now I love it. You are right though. Everyone has a preference and no one is right. It just depends on the person. Some like Mac for Office, some like Open Office, some like NeoOffice, some like Office 2007, and some like iWork.

I see threads all the time trying to compare and asking which one is best. Ultimately none of them because it is a personal preference thing. Each has their strong points.

You don't have to register it with a serial number today though. They fixed it I guess because of the traffic.

So far, only slightly impressed ....

I can see where the "Crossover Games" program is better for people wanting it. (There are lots of old Windows games out there that gamers running OS X might get a kick out of being able to use without booting into Windows to do it... Plus, getting a game like Portal to work might make it worthwhile, too.)

But I just tried out their other package, and so far, it's not helping me out much. I really need Microsoft Publisher 2003 to run inside OS X because I made invoices for my business in it a long time ago. No luck there, because it's apparently unsupported. (I think I just need to take out time to re-create my invoice forms from scratch in iWork '08 or something, and be done with it. I'm tired of using my old Windows PC pretty much *just* for printing those things.)

I also tried their built-in support for installing IE 6, thinking that would be kind of cool to have - just for those odd web sites requiring Internet Explorer and nothing else. Again, no luck. The link Crossover asks you to click to download the installer, manually, winds up getting you an installer that fails with errors after it starts installing IE. It can't locate the Microsoft server supplying the rest of the install files it tries to get over the Internet as it installs. (Microsoft probably took them down because IE 7 has been out so long now?)

Most of the other apps they claim to support have native OS X versions available anyway (Photoshop, Quicken '07, etc.) - and I own those already.

ummmmm....MS makes Office 2008 for the Mac too ;)

I never knew that.

Let me clarify for you then. I think MS did well with MS versions for Windows of Office.

since they are having fully unlocked builds today, do we still need a serial to register?

That is what I'm worrying about. I already downloaded it and it never asked for the serial number I have. When their site is back up I don't need to download it again since I already have it installed. I wonder if you don't have to register it or if you go to their site when it is up they will have a place to register it without having to download it again.

Agreed. I'm mostly mad that 2008 does not support equations from 2007. As a grad student in the sciences, its a pain to have to boot windows up every time I want to see an equation in a draft of a paper. Its just nonsensical to change the format, and then not support said format. It totally defeats the purpose of having a new format, even if it does offer new features.

This is probably the only occasion where I sincerely thank Dubya The Chimp for his cooperation and good work. Thanks CodeWeavers, and thanks even more for presenting yet another funny critique about a war criminal and THE incompetent politician for your country...

At least now I can try run some minor proprietary Windows crap without even thinking of buying Windows for that...thank you!

Also did you know that MS Office Mac 2004 was more advanced than the current Office XP for Windows at the time? Similar with other versions.

It was one of the many 'leg ups' the Apple community had over the Windows versions of office. First being Office was developed for Mac first (Apple was MS's first REAL customer).

Anyway, that's WAY OFF TOPIC. 2008 isn't 'that' bad, it has it's hiccups, but so did many if not all the Windows versions at first, same with the Mac versions. It'll streamline, it's still a good upgrade from 2004, and I like the features in IT better than Office 2007.

Thank you CodeWeavers! Long time fan (and of WINE, of course). What a great surprise. Downloaded Pro for Linux to install on the Ubuntu workstation I'm setting up for our organization to get comfortable with Linux - this will be a big help.

Question: I have downloaded BOTH versions for the Mac. Will I be able to use them concomitantly or is it only one download/one serial promotion?

As I said it is a personal preference thing. I like Office 2007 and think it is great.
