I bought a 15" MBP from the Apple Online Store on 6/16 and it wouldn't recognize my serial number either. What did you guys enter for the city and state for the online store? It wouldn't let me submit without one. (wouldn't take the serial number with or without the city/state)

I put both Austin, TX and Cupertino, CA, and it took both (no bold red needing correction), but my serial number still won't work.

Mine worked without an issue for my iMac I purchased on Amazon. However, I find it strange that you need to enter a credit card number even though it's free.

It doesn't charge or authorize your account though, but does require you put a valid card number.

This is common, even for free apps. I believe apple does this to verify who you are.

I've got the same problem here.
Called Apple and they said the same things you guys have been told.

I hope it works tonight!

I paid for it as I did not know about the link. But after waiting on the phone with Apple for an hour I was able to get a refund! :D

I bet the "issue" is their way of "controlling" the load their servers are having to deal with. As downloads finish, it opens up for someone else.

Good luck all, I'm still playing with my PB G4 with Leopard. :)

My serial number was finally verified. I'm at work (my home iMac is the one eligible for free upgrade). If I go ahead and complete the free upgrade order from my work PC, will I receive a code that will allow me to download Lion later when I get home, or do I need to complete the order process from my eligible Mac?

I totally agree with you..

did you send an application in using the alternate method other than the Apple Online Store?

The same thing was happening to me earlier, but it finally accepted it.

There have been some reported issues with new macs that still cannot be validated.

My advice would be to call AppleCare to get an ETA on the issue.

I stucked at first too, unable to redeem my code. Tried using other method, paste my Mac's SN and it is said to be invalid.

Apple didn't give enough and thorough steps of up-to-date service, I admit. Maybe because they feel hesitant to give you that freebie :D

But really, it works now. Just make sure you choose Apple Store from your country. Where do you stay? If you don't mind to tell maybe I could help.

Wait what does it mean to choose Apple Store from your country?

I am in North Carolina (USA) although I ordered my MBP from 1.800.MY.APPLE although they basically used the Apple Online Store to fill my order. Maybe i should of directly ordered it online but I doubt that is the issue here.

Maybe I need to say that local Apple store near me like Friendly Apple Store?

Any help would be appreciated.. I have been dealing with this issue for about 15 hours now..

Worked great for me, installed and posting from OSX Lion right at this minute.

What were your circumstances? When did you buy it and did you buy it online and where are you located?

Im trying to figure out if I am very, very unlucky or if there is something screwy with me.

At a certain point, you're just rubbing it in...

Still no luck. Ugh.

*rubs* ;)

Got a few mates of mine who are having same issues and they're UK side like me. I jumped on bandwagon pretty early, I guess the servers just buckled under pressure.

There may be something screwy with you, but you're not alone in being lion-less for no apparent reason though.

I'm in TN (USA), bought the computer June 14th, neither the Apple Store Quick Route, nor the slightly longer Give-Us-Your-Email-And-We'll-See ways have worked for me. Both say my serial number is ineligible, though Customer Service told me at Noon CST that I was most definitely eligible and to just wait it out.

Now AppleCare's closed for the night, but if this isn't fixed by morning, they're gonna hear from me in a big, bad way tomorrow.
