My serial number was finally verified. I'm at work (my home iMac is the one eligible for free upgrade). If I go ahead and complete the free upgrade order from my work PC, will I receive a code that will allow me to download Lion later when I get home, or do I need to complete the order process from my eligible Mac?

When you complete the process you recieve a redemption code via email which you can then redeem at a Later time in the Mac app atore for your copy of Lion.

There may be something screwy with you, but you're not alone in being lion-less for no apparent reason though.

I'm in TN (USA), bought the computer June 14th, neither the Apple Store Quick Route, nor the slightly longer Give-Us-Your-Email-And-We'll-See ways have worked for me. Both say my serial number is ineligible, though Customer Service told me at Noon CST that I was most definitely eligible and to just wait it out.

Now AppleCare's closed for the night, but if this isn't fixed by morning, they're gonna hear from me in a big, bad way tomorrow.

I am in the exact same situation and I am frustrated because I have been trying on and off since noon. I am in NC right now. Mine was bought June 10. It is esp frustrating bc a good friend of mine bought a MBP about a week ago and I told him about the update program and it worked for him instantly this late afternoon (after I had tried about 20x before!), on the first go. He is in NY so I thought it maybe a distance issue. That's unlikely though I can't find any one variable that explains it though..

I agree I will be grouchy with Apple on the phone tomorrow..

Wait what does it mean to choose Apple Store from your country?

I am in North Carolina (USA) although I ordered my MBP from 1.800.MY.APPLE although they basically used the Apple Online Store to fill my order. Maybe i should of directly ordered it online but I doubt that is the issue here.

Maybe I need to say that local Apple store near me like Friendly Apple Store?

Any help would be appreciated.. I have been dealing with this issue for about 15 hours now..

Sorry I meant you have to pick apple online store with right country. I live in Asia, so I have to enter my region online apple store and claimed my copy of Lion.

You live in US, so by default it's easy to claim yours, just go through www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate .. Go to redeem from Apple Online Store. Sign in using your Apple ID.

Be sure to prepare your Mac serial number, and you also will be asked your credit card number & security. As if you make a purchase of an item cost $0 :D

Wait for verification, an email contain redeem code for Lion will be dispatched to you. Paste the code on Mac AppStore, download will begin automatically

I jumped on bandwagon pretty early, I guess the servers just buckled under pressure.

From what I've been able to gather, it's almost entirely people who purchased their macs through the apple online store who are having trouble with the up-to-date program. People who bought it in-store are fine.

If that's the case, it makes ZERO sense that it would be a server issue. Someone didn't properly prepare/enter our online-purchase info into said servers -- That's the issue.

Anyway, enjoy Lion. Hopefully we'll all have a chance at it tomorrow.

Hey -- Anybody think it'd be a bad idea to just buy Lion from the app store tonight and demand a refund tomorrow once they get their business in order?

This is a little bit risky but I think it would work. Apple generally dislikes irate customers, I remember my adviser got a free wireless keyboard because his MBA shipped 2 days later than Apple predicted. There is also just cause here (this **** is not working when it is supposed to!). Interesting idea I am tempted...but I probably won't simply because I will probably fall asleep before it finishes downloading and installing.

was having no luck all day now it worked and it's downloading - good luck all! )ordered june 5, shipped june 8

Can I ask which link did you follow to redeem this? Is the short form or the longer application (which asks for your email address)?

Wrong date of purchase.

I had the same problem, phoned apple care and they said that my date of purchase was the wrong date and was 2 month before I bought my mac. So I had to email them with a copy of a proof of purchase so they could change it. After that I would qualify for the update and my serial number would be recognised. So if you have the same problem call apple care on 020 7153 9000 in the uk.
