I am going out on a limb here, but I think he was responding to you accusations of him being a child...

Three years is a long time, in terms of using a phone. I wouldn't call that getting bored with your phone after a short time has passed.

I know, I was just saying in general.
Some people get bored with their phones or toys in general within months or weeks.
I was mentioning that I didnt, there is plenty of firmware updates and improvements since the iphone came out and tons of good quality Apps to keep one busy.

The best smartphone with the best support if you concede that it is boring as hell to use.:D

Boring? That's odd. I don't consider it boring or fun or anything in between. I consider it a tool that provides a small amount of entertainment at times.

Thanks I do understand his point though. I am glad he's happy and that's great.

A feature phone with brick breaker is a tool. Consider the commercials about the iPhone. I have yet to see one talking about the dialer or email capabilities. It's all Siri, apps, etc.

Forgive me if this sounds too direct. But, what makes something "not boring"?

I read through the thread and am not sure I found this answer. I'm kind of assuming 'new' is exciting. Is that right?

I know iOS has been around the longest but it works really well.

Not really new because something new could be boring or useless. Like wp7 when it first came out android or bb were all boring. iOS was fresh different and worked perfectly, and it still does(except battery life keeps getting worse with every upgrade). I would say that bb qnx is pretty exciting but has no support and is poorly executed. Meego also is fresh but Doa. I am just saying that iOS has gotten boring. Still has great apps, nice but old hardware, and just works. With ios 5 they could have one upped android but instead just did android and threw in Siri.

IMO, the commercials are progressive with each iOS iteration. If you want to see commercials about email and the dialer, look at the iPhone commercials from 2007 and 2008.

In your opinion, what should they have added to one-up Android?

I'm guessing you don't find any value in features like Wi-Fi iTunes sync, iCloud, updated camera app, etc.

No those functions are fine but nothing new. One upping android would be doing something new and different and not slapping on function that came from android. I would have liked to of seen a real navigation program. Social media integration, something better executed other than tiny apps in folders. They are not longer innovating they are following android.

Listen though it's still better than anything else it's just old, boring, and getting cluttered.

WP7, on the other hand... in my own personal opinion, it's the best of the two as far as approaches goes. Most of the time, when I take out my phone, I wanted to check on a couple of things fast. How many emails do I have? Messages? Anything new?
Gotta agree with this. I picked up a Nokia Lumia WP7 phone a couple of weeks ago. I used for a few days, then switched back to the iPhone where I was more comfortable. After a couple of days, I tried the Lumia again... this time for 4 days. I switched back to the iPhone once more for a day or two, and then back to the Lumia which is where I've been since. I love the people hub and social network integration. And as you said, the email and calendar are also better on WP7 than iOS.

I personally concur, but depends on where you are coming from. Some tried Android first or was on an old dumb phone or BlackBerry or Symbian that their first iPhone still feels refreshing. And some like Jon Rettinger and Noah Kravitz who are long time iPhone or Mac users who just needed a change and went with Windows Phone or whatnot. I fall in the latter group. But I'm a multi-platform user, so I rarely take sides. It is like owning a Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii. Each of their strengths and target groups. Right now, I use Windows Phone. Within a year, I'll get bored of it too and might switch to iPhone or even Android. But right now, I say iPhone is the best all-around phone while iOS' GUI has become the most boring to use. WP is prettier to look at and Google is in the right direction with ICS. But all three are solid. Much better than Symbian or BB OS. Depends on taste and what target group you fall in.

Boring?? Hell no!!!
It is exciting to watch the battery race against time to 0%...and if not that, then it is the anticipation that the phone may drop the call any moment now which makes it exciting!:roll eyes:

Even after all these years of development in iOS, IMO Apple has still has not got the basics right.

But assuming that the basics are working for all the iPhones, I would agree with the OP. It is a good OS once you come to terms that it is a boring OS...Not that it is bad...I do not like Android cause the design is too busy for my taste. Windows 7 might be good....but for me to use it, Windows 8 has to be better than Lion. I like the feeling of oneness my phone shares with my laptop

Every things out there, smartphone included are going to be boring at some point.

It's called adaptability, no matter how good it is, it will become normal, usual .. so what's the point?

There was some point when I thought 1080p movies are the best thing ever made since TV, but not anymore, it's just become the norm. Not that I can enjoy another DVD quality video anymore, but the point is 1080p video quality is not changing, it's you who has become accustomed to it :D

And so does with iOS, Android, WP7 or whatever, it will be boring if you're in it too often/long.

same exact UI since 2007 = boring

IF it were the exact same as 2007, it would be boring.

Great thread and comments.

Please excuse me because I do not own an iPhone...although, I have wanted one for some time; nor do I own an android device. I have done research into both on which to go with for my needs and have used some of their functions, but not on a daily basis.

But honestly...isn't a phone just supposed to be a...phone? What happened to its basic use? Yeah, I may sound ancient, but I mean all the stuff that these "phones" can do is amazing. Also, aren't they luxuries versus necessities?

Please know I am not saying these comments towards anyone or with angst or in a threatening way...just mentioning points I consider when looking at what we now consider "phones."

Would love to hear comments/thoughts. Yay or Nay?

Exactly my point......or lack there of a point.:D

Not really just phones anymore. My regular phone use to be so I could be in contact with my wife and work. Now they keep me in touch with family, friends, current events, email, weather, etc. it needs to be useful yet simple. I do want to see my calendar at a glance but at the same time the battery must last a full day. Maybe ios is just not elegant and as functional as it was before iOS 5.

iphone's apps keep me using it and it's much more stable than android. I played with most the apps on android and I got bored with it. Not many quality apps on android at all. I like how iOS just works when I need to do something. My alarm apps on Android failed so many times, it's not funny. All my Android phones are rooted. My 4S is not jailbroken but I can get any app I want with iResign :)

It was expected to be just a phone like five years ago. Not anymore. We live in the smartphone era now and there is no turning back. Portable computers in our pocket that can combine like 15 different gadgets into one device.

The History Channel named the smartphone the greatest invention ever.

I currently happily own four of these smartphones and love them for different reasons. A pair of iPhones and an Android and Windows Phone. It is addicting to collect them sometimes and it has become a point of no return for me going back to "just a phone" now that alot of my life is internet/social media-based.

I do find the UI on iOS to be a bit boring. I thought of this when I was considering moving to the galaxy nexus. I thought of the big changes and how I could benefit from using widgets and all that. But then I thought back to the last android phone I had, the droid x. I enjoyed customizing that thing, but nothing was ever right. I always had to change something on it because there was always something annoying me on the home screen.

I am so glad I stuck with iOS and got an iPhone 4s. It may not be refreshing, but at least it works.

Initially I would have agreed with you but not anymore. There is wp7 which is the daddy of ease of use. IOS is more and more like android every year. I use to be proud that my iPhone made it through two days. Bb had better batt life but its multi media capabilities were crap. Android did everything but apps were lacking and battery life was horrid. The more and more iPhone gets into multi tasking, cloud services, etc. the more battery life suffers. And you can carry an extra battery.:apple:

WP7 is the youngest OS out right now, so I can see why people are switching to that and saying it's fresh, because it is. It is new.

If WP7 and Android were out back before iOS and iOS only came out now everyone would be rambling about how iOS makes everything simple.

It's human nature.
