Apple-Watch-Size-Comparison.jpg
Apple-Watch-Size-on-Wrist-Comparison.png
With the Apple Watch poised to launch in April, excitement for the wrist-worn device has been building within the forums. In particular, a few users have posted discussion threads that compare the 38mm and 42mm Apple Watch based on photographer Ryan Mack's print-to-size diagrams. Both mockups are attached to a regular watchband to provide a realistic preview of how the Apple Watch could look on the wrist.

This is really handy...I think I'm going to get an Apple Watch and know the style (strap etc) but can't decide between the 38mm and 42mm so this should help.

**EDIT**
So having printed these templates out and tried both I'm still torn between which is right, although I'm veering very slightly to the 38mm but not 100% yet.

**EDIT 2**
38mm it has to be after sticking it to my current watch!

I just don't see the appeal, style-wise. Sport band/ sport style, sure. But that square face/screen on a nicer band, trying to be a fine watch, it just looks off. I guess that does make sense, since a lot of the marketing is toward this helping with Heath/active lifestyle.

1st gen product

History suggests that people shouldn't rush out to buy the first iteration regardless.

its 2015 and they still havent figured out an energy efficient way to display the time all the time? i will wait for gen 3

oh dear..... seeing these pictures makes me think even the 38 is going to be GINORMOUS on my wrist!

FWIW, the 42mm is about the size of an iPod nano. So if you wear an iPod nano watch, it's a great comparison. The Apple watch is a tad thicker, however.

I wear an iPod nano watch, but I'm unsure of which direction I'm leaning toward. Might order both and return the one I like the least. I fear availability will be scarce, so preordering is a must!

I'm confused. Do you look at the time without looking at the time? What does it matter if the time doesn't appear until you lift your wrist up? Don't you do that with a normal watch anyhow?

This have me thinking which size to get. I'm medium build and 6'3" tall, but those pictures make the larger of the apple watch look really big. I might have to wait until I try both on before I purchase. Only thing is I hope the apple stores get demo units at least a couple days before the pre orders and sale.

Is this the 38mm or 42mm? This looks kind of big to be a 38mm.

Mmmm, that's interesting, think my measurements might be wrong. Have now corrected with right measurements...I thought it originally looked big and thought my wrists had shrunk!

I don’t think the sizes are really gender specific, nor is that the reason for having two different sizes.

isn't a watch sort of a fashion statement? looks weird simply displaying a whole lot of nothing

Mmmm, that's interesting, think my measurements might be wrong. On the templates the watch is 34.68mm wide but that includes the crown. I made my template 34.68mm wide without the crown thinking measurements where screen only.

C'mon, hasn't it occurred to you people by now that there's been just too much "think, think, think"?

Just wait and see until the product is in on your wrist, for pity's sake!

History suggests that people shouldn't rush out to buy the first iteration regardless.

If everyone followed that logic there would never be a second version of any product from any company. Buying a first generation product is not a marriage. If someone has the money and is interested, they should buy one. If they don't like it, they can return it. Big deal.

I bought the first gen iPod. I listened to that thing 8 hours a day at work for years. I shouldn't have bought it because it was a first gen product? That's absolutely ridiculous.

They actually should, because then Apple will deem it a success and make a 2nd gen product for us to buy.

Kind of difficult if you're intending to pre-order and don't actually get the chance to try one on! Perhaps think, think, think is good foresight!!

When I first compared the iPhone6 vs. 6P I was certain the 6P would be too big for my taste. Then I remembered that my eyesight sucks so I got use to the 6P after about one day.

As for the watch options the same holds true especially when I look at the crazy interface of those tiny application dots.

It baffles me people and their first gen little theories. Of course every new gen is better then the previous. There will always be a better product on horizon if you are willing to just wait. My cousin (and can't I aging him being the only one) is still using first gen iPad ( yes, after so many years) and is doing fine almost everything I do on my iPad air.

I printed out the 42 mm and I think it sits perfectly on my wrist. I think the photos make it appear to be much larger than it is. I'm 6' tall and rather skinny and I still plan on getting the 42

If everyone believed that "if everyone" scenarios were real, then this thread wouldn't exist, I wouldn't be too concerned about hypothetical mass actions, they really won't happen.

The first gen iPhone wasn't exactly a huge success, I profited on that by getting a new one in April 2008 for £179. After Apple got their act together, prices like that would never be seen again.

Not early adopting worked out very nicely for me, I always let other people subsidise the cost of day one 1st gen hardware, and for that, I am always grateful.

Or, :apple: will call it a "hobby" and make it cheaper.

There's nothing baffling about history.
