...to stress that it will not sell its users' health data to third-party entities such as marketers or allow third-party developers to do so.

Sorry CurentC, the FTC will not allow your app in our store.

That's only if CurrentC ties your purchase price to your heart rate, or the frustration of using CurrentC to your blood pressure.

Your health data is going to be protected by the simple fact that unless your sat next to a plug socket this thing is going to do nothing but be an expensive braclet for 70% of your day

Need to charge it every day

Pft, sales only to fools and fashion victims

News: Government Beauracracy attempts to justify self by loudly asking questions that have already been publicly answered.

"Because Washington" says the pundits.

"Wut?" said all the people.

"Don't worry. We will take care of you." Says Washington.

Good. It's gives Apple a chance to brag again about their most important policy - not collecting your data.

That's right. Apple loses user data. Even the user doesn't have it. Can't be more private than that!

The FTC and Apple are most likely working together to help draft laws to regulate digital personal medical information. This will likely be in Apple's favor, at the same time open investigations of Apple competitors. When the FTC publicly announces investigations and fines, the FTC will basically be giving Apple free positive press.

Apple: "FTC, you work for me now."

You mean like this? https://www.macrumors.com/2014/10/27/currentc-mobile-payments/

CurrentC notes it may share info with your device maker, app store, or developer tool makers. Oddly, it will collect health data.

Note the first screen in the image - "Health & Medical"

Is it wrong that I STILL find this watches design cool and fresh? Damn it Apple, make a band design already!

As for the investigation, well, as is said it's YOUR body and YOU know when something is wrong, not an electronic gadget, and you then know to speak with a doctor or whoever. I'm sure it is accurate enough to measure the simple things and people are sensible enough to use the readings as advice only.

And surely any medical information collected is protected under the current data protection acts?

Apple's "transparency" pages brag about how they don't monetize info from our emails, yet fail to mention what they DO monetize.

For example, Apple uses the data they have collected about us from our iTunes account, purchases, taste and location, to sell iAds.

Apple also allows the banks and credit card companies to continue to collect our purchase data, to both use and sell, in return for an Apple Pay kickback percentage.

Meanwhile, the FTC ignores the S Gear...

Apparently, not. See below.

So is the FTC meeting with Google and Microsoft as well?

In the Reuters source article linked to in the first post, it was reported that:

"The agency has made it a priority to examine whether mobile health developers marketing apps on Apple's iOS and Google's Android platforms are taking precautions to safeguard user privacy..."

Why just the Apple call-out?

Because we're on an Apple site!! :)

I don't want anyone divulging data gleaned from my watch, whether it's how many strokes I rowed or how often I farted while rowing.

I'm not sure what Apple is doing with iAds, but they certainly aren't selling my data, which is what I care about. I think Apple only cares about some data to the certain extent that they can sell some ad space. Your line about collecting CC data is wrong, looks like you already got called out on that. Apple certainly isn't selling or collecting any of your health data. Much ado about nada.

I wonder if that means hipa forms will be included with every apple watch
