Do you all think that we will get the core 2 MB with the GMA 950 in it before christmas? Or will they wait for core 2+ and new graphics and 802.11n at leopard launch? Possibly with this talk of Viiv in iTv, maybe we will see the integrated Viiv board/chip/card/software in the next revision of the macbook. Viiv is just a name for a set of compenents, but are they good components all i've heard was they were centrino based. is merom build off of centrino?

all macrumors fault i don't have a mb yet. finally got the $ to buy in july, mb in the pricerange, and then all the talk about the c2d started, so i've been waiting. hey, i'm still using a performa 6400/sonnet g3, and a pII laptop, so its not like i'm in a rush. but i want mine already, and committed to waiting for the upgrade (i don't need a video card, can't afford a mbp anyway, and am on the road too much to lug such a behemoth anyway) and won't buy till forever so the 64 bit will still be an issue for my next machine, so let's go already apple and give us the upgrade so i can buy another machine that'll last me for the next five or more years

Does the student discount bring down the price on refurbished units? I was under the impression that the student discount only applied to "new" units.

What's the thing about Apple ? I'm a pc user since ages, I was ready to buy a mac with this intel switch and now I must wait for C2D longer than I expected. I don't ask the impossible, I would like to buy a portable mac that do not lag behind pc competion. The macbook lag behind now, every pc makers have around 1000$ C2D with 1gig of ram and at least 100gb hd. Apple as switch in the pc market, they might have OSX, but the box is a pc ; so they should keep up the pace if they want pc guys like me to buy their hardware in order to give a try to this wonderfull OS.
I just don't get it now, and I'm tired of waiting. I'll wait one last week, and i'll buy a Sony or a Lenovo...too bad Apple couldn't keep the pace

Well, I hope that they come out soon as well (I'm sure we all do). In terms of waiting, I'm sure it will be worth waiting for the new macbook to come out, which will probably happen in the next week or two. When they do, I will probably dive headlong into the Mac world myself
. I've always been confused as to why one threatens to get a PC instead of a Mac because they don't have exactly the same components as "brand x" PC or somehow are "behind" by some specific amount. I have a Core 2 duo in my desktop. It is definately faster than my old AMD Athlon 64, but I don't for a second imagine that I am using it to it's fullest capacity. I work with very taxing scientific software for MicroArray data analysis, and I can run it on my Pentium M just as easily as a Core 2 Duo, it will just be a little bit slower. Until very recently, I've been running Windows 2000 and other older software and gotten along just fine, so I think the whole "future proofing" spoof only is important to those who have to run the latest software at the fastest speeds or are gamers (and even gamers can make small upgrades such as the video card and be just fine). All of this to say, the Core Duo is a good processor and is still pretty comparable to any other manufacturer price wise.
By the way, your sony vaio/lenovo is going to be quite a bit more expensive then the macbook. If you have to have the Core 2 Duo, I would suggest you wait. Your pocketbook will thank you...

Im sorry if I look like someone who was trying to treathens of buying a PC, that wasnt the point I wanted to demonstrate here. My situation is that I need a laptop for the redaction of my master degree, so Ill have to buy one sooner or later (well, actually, sooner will be the time !). Im also doing a lot of photo and video editing, so I now that the more I can get for my money, the best it will be. I dont want to buy a pc laptop, I really want to give Apple a try, but I just dont feel like spending that amount on something thats not, right now, up to the competition. So if they dont, I wont have a choice.
I may not need all that power right now, but Ill need it someday. I dont have the kind of money to buy a laptop every years, even new ram or hds etc. So I just want the best « bang for the buck » so it can fit my budget and wont be too slow in a couple of years. C2D offer 64bits technologie, is a tad faster and manage a better power consumption. Why settle for less, if others sell it ? I could think of getting a CD with 512meg and 60gigs HD, but not at the price of a pc with 1gig and 100gb HD. Thats why Ive said that Apple is not alone in their universe anymore. Its like buying a car, its expansive so if you want to buy one you want the best out there in your price range. If not, you want a deal, a car that may lag behind in terms of technologie etc., but cost less. The macbook now doesnt keep up, nor cost less. And I dont want to spend 1400 gran (well, canadian money !) on something that is not up to date. I would feel like paying the great price on a computer which is not as fast and wont last as long as a pc with C2D and better spec.
Understand that I dont say that to « bash » Apple. I would really like to be a new maclover ! But I just dont understand why the heck they dont update it now, or lower the price like every other compagnies out there. I guess thats the « Think Different » thing that I cant understand now
So yes, Im gonna wait a week and pray, but if they dont update it, Ill feel like I dont have a choice and I will be desapointed. At least Ill still have my old 20gb 4th gen iPod that still keep it up after 2 years !
