While you certainly have a point, I don't see how absolute numbers are relevant here. Proportions of the user base are much more important because this has high importance to the developer. Newer OS means new APIs and functions. If I know that 50% of the Mac user base are using Mavericks, then I (as a developer) might be more eager to integrate certain Mavericks-only features. If I know that only 14% have it, then I'd rather rather target the other 86%.

the % of the user base is important, But not in the context that Tim Cook, and the community here are jumping on.

it's like "market share" for smartphones. it's only ONE metric that can be used, that needs to be compared, and related to other metrics and then you can form an opinion on it.

Tim Cook is trying to tell you "50% upgrades v 14% upgrades MEANS WE"RE BETTER THAN THEM!"

thats not at all what it says. nor means.

50% upgrades is good. I'm not trying to discount that. Apple should be VERY VERY proud of that fact.

But bringing up Windows numbers without the context behind the why of windows numbers, nor the overall statstics is purely being used to mislead consumers.

Hence why i called it's inclusion here FUD. And ti works. How many people here are looking at that 50% to 14% number and claiming a victory for apple purely on that one stat.

google voice and hangouts does the same thing. When my phone rings so does my computer.

Meh. Do I really want to install 5 different plug-ins for all of my family and set them up with yet another round of usernames and passwords or do I just want to use the info they already know?

;)

Exactly... Google Voice has done it for years, but something tells me that Apple will take credit for it, and fans will accuse the next company of copying.

Make calls from your MAC??

This seems pretty damn awesome.

People have been able to do this with Google Voice for years. Apple ecosystem is way behind. Besides, with Google Voice you can do it on all sorts of platforms.
