It sounds all great in their presentations, creative kids doodling on their iPads and learning amazing skills...

But the reality is different: you give kids an iPad and the next thing they'll do is installing games and browse social media. That's not learning, that's distraction.

I remember the day when I got my Texas Instruments TI-83 calculator for school, the first thing I did was to find some games for it, so did most of my friends. We were mostly gaming in math classes rather than solving equations or do graph analysis.
I agree. Unless you really lock them down, kids are just going to **** around on these things.

Couldn't agree more. About 10 years ago, every Windows user I know was sniffing around at the Mac and I was getting hit with questions. The biggest one was "Where's the desktop machine?" Windows users didn't like the Mini because it just didn't have enough things to fiddle with and you couldn't open the box. The iMac was generally a nonstarter for the same reason, and the Mac Pros were out of the question because of the sticker shock.

Around 2006-2008, Apple could have killed it in the computer market if they had just offered a mid-range, headless, reasonably priced Mac. Windows users would have flocked to it. And for those who think that's anecdotal, consider the burst of activity trying to get Mac OS X to run on generic PC hardware back then. The demand was real and huge.

And Apple just let it sit there and wither. I will never understand why they did that. They had to have known what was going on. Either that, or their marketing people were utter morons.

This. There's a reason why the second-hand Apple market is so huge. People want those devices at a more reasonable price.

Too bad that wasn't available when I was in School.
For me, homework, writing a report meant using a typewriter (which was boring and usually had to retype the same page twice because I would fall asleep and mess it all up).
The funny thing was that I had a computer and a wide-carriage Epson Dot Matrix Printer, but my school didn't allowed me to use it, as I was the only one in the whole school who had that 'advantage'. Non-sense!

I was fully aware that the event was likely to cover only things that were relevant to education. So I’m surprised that there was no update to iBooks. It would have been the perfect venue for it. Other non education features could have been covered in a press release and on Apple’s website, but books play such a critical role to education that it’s a little bit shocking that it wasn’t talked about.

Well they did roll iBooks Author into Pages , thereby bringing iBooks authoring to iPad. And just for giggles apparently it’s collaborative authoring.

Having worked on a few iBooks collaboratively previously, that’s potentially massively convenient change for anyone authoring iBooks

I wasn't expecting this event to deliver very much and it didn't. Chrome books in education have nothing to worry about.
I sure hope Apple's upcoming Macbook / Macbook Pro / lineups are more appealing than the past few iterations.

You will be playing Angry Birds all day long and learn nothing.

Apple: More status symbol and less relevance as time goes on...

Have to disagree. It USED to be a status symbol. That is when Steve was running the business. Now its run by some hoohaw named Tim who doesn't have a clue. Steve brought us the Mac, the iPhone, and the iPad.....Timmy brought us a $1,000 iPhone, a carbon copy of Steve's iPad (Pro, $649), and less we forget a $10,000 watch. Yeah he's a winner alright.

Your response just proved my point...

Got to marvel at the selfish, inward-focused attitudes of modern consumers:

"But I wanted", "I want", "That's not what I expected"... I, I, I.... me, me, me...

... when you finally wake up to yourself and grow up, and realise that life isn't centred around you and your desires, you'll finally demonstrate emotional maturity. YOUR desires don't define and encompass the desires of the greater masses.

So you wanted X, Y or Z... so what? Hard cheese, you didn't get it, now please get a grip and stop sulking like an immature brat.

Seriously. What did I just watch? (Well, I was more surfing the web while it ran in the background... because I just died a little on the inside.)

EVERYONE on stage was either just horrible, or outright detestable. One exception... the black lady early on, forgot her name. SHE was good. Everyone else... omg.

And Tim... omg... first not reading out the quote correctly... and then HAVING TO ADD "…men… and women". OMG... don't mess up quotes for the sake of trying to be politically correct. The quote NEVER meant or intended to talk about ONLY MEN (as a gender/sex) but as a term for MANKIND.

I can't take it anymore... seriously. I've ALWAYS been thrilled when an Apple Event was coming up... now I just hope to not be completely disappointed... which... I am...

51 years I have suffered from insomnia. Finally, I think this here might just be my cure.

"Only Apple can do this."

What an apocalyptic, egotistical, smug, self congratulating phrase. And people on here wonder why so many others are critical of them.
Only Apple can do this or you only see this coming from Apple were strong words and an echo from the past. Saying these same words with the offerings from the last 6 years without shame... shows how far he has come from today’s reality. It has become the mantra of shame!

It’s kind of funny Apple are renewing their push into education considering their last attempt at pushing iPads into classrooms fell flat and was considered a failure by that school board Apple boasted had ordered so many of the things.

Will pencil make a difference?
It’s their saying of putting in the pencil somewhere where the sun doesn’t shine
[doublepost=1522185951][/doublepost]I’m so happy I didn’t see the full version of the video. It saved me 57 minutes quality time :)

Basically, a year over year upgrade with new software and tools for educators; that’s it.

But for the Pro Market? Apple had you covered with space gray accessories.
Wait, wait... a new über priced Mac pro will be coming in 2018. Im wondering what color it will be coming... I heard rumors about rose gold

You mean you’re NOT happy with just some colored accessories?

I sense a lot of disappointment in this forum. You should go check out iMore—as usual, Rene Ritchie is super stoked. Maybe some his enthusiasm will run off on you folks.

"Thomas ... your homework is to discover gravity ... drops text book"

Thomas response ... drops iPad face down ... crack!

That was a very DUMB commercial especially with the mindset of students today spending FAR too much time gaming on their iOS devices! 94 % of high school students in the last few weeks are gaming on a specific game jus released on iOS.

Who, where is that?
