Yup. Backup both.
OK, thank you!

Concluding that the product is overall unreliable as a result of this unfortunate situation with one device is just preposterous.
Who said the product overall is unreliable?

If the problem were hardware related, then everyone with an iPhone 6+ would be seeing it right?
Clearly that's not happening.

OP can do and think what she wants, but the conclusions she came to just don't make a lot of sense to me.
What conclusions did I come to?

Could it be a possibility that the Ghost Armor was applied with to much water and soap and it got into the phone? Just a thought.
The crashing started before then.

I do like someone else's idea of blaming the Houstan Texans since we were watching their football game vs Colts when the final crash happened, but JJ Watt is too cute for that :).

Lesson- always back up your phone, and there are always duds on mass production of this scale.
I currently backup once a week (on weekends) via iTunes.

Once a week? Increase your frequency. That is too long to go without a good solid backup.
If I increased my iPhone backup frequency to beyond once a week, I'd need to move iTunes to my travel (work) laptop from my home laptop. That would make my work laptop SSD > 95% full (or completely full depending on that other backup directory). I've checked this before as I would like to do that.

----------

I returned my 6+ today. Primary reason too big.

In the week that I had it. I notice some odd stuff.

- Would drop wifi (all other devices in home did not)
- Random restarts
- Loss of some settings or change in settings on restarts
- No accelerated scrolling ie can't flick up or down a page

Have no regrets for sending it back.
davewolfs, What were you doing when you saw the "random restarts." Did you see the white apple screen and then reboot within 30 seconds or so?

I let the 2 week return period expire on mine. I'm confident enough that Apple will fix this in software or somehow make it right.

What I am trying to say is that I don't think that the current Apple Phones and iOS features are the benchmark anymore. So accept the reality and stop bashing people for merely stating an opinion or an experience.

I'm seeing the same mentality in defending Apple as back in the 80s and 90s people were defending Chevrolet against Toyota/Honda.

Eventually people DO quit wasting their money but some take a bit longer than others to figure it out.

Mind you I'm posting this from a 5s, which was a pretty darn good phone last year in comparison though a bit overpriced... but the iPhone 6 is the chevy cavalier of phones right now.

The Note 2 is a good phone, and I can see why you might want to use it.

But your iPhone crashed, and Apple gave you a new one. No questions.

That's quite good service, I don't think it warrants a black mark against iPhones.

I lost 4 days of contact changes and photos. (No, I don't store my contacts or photos on someone else's computer i.e., the cloud. I do backup once a week via iTunes.).

Why?
Why not use the cloud for contacts? It makes situations like this so much easier.

I did *not* restore from backup, even though I now have hundreds of iPhone apps to re-install 1 by 1. .

Sounds like the 2nd genius took care of you. Stuff happens.

I Just got rear ended while driving my son to a little league game. I was stopped at a light and this guy hits my car. minimal damage, no one hurt...PIA?
yep...big deal...not really. .

Glad you got a new phone.

In your own opinion of course. If the iPhone is the Chevy cavalier the rest if the phones must be ford pinto.

As far as the 5s being overpriced, you paid for it so what does that say about how you perceive things?

you made a big mistake OP.

1... accusing your phone of having a fault instead of admitting it's somehow your own bloody fault.

2... bringing up andriod. it clearly means you are paid by Samsung as a way of trying to discredit Apple.

So.. expect the wrath of Apple fanatics.

Hmm just because the op posted something regarding samsungs outstanding durability and quality, you feel insulted...the iphone 6 plus crashes, laggy, and has many hiccups yet you prefer to keep them hidden in your mind....thank you op for this insightful post...

I do backup to my computer via iTunes. Though in general iTunes vexes me. If someone held a gun to my head, I couldn't repeat to you how I moved a PDF from my computer to my iPhone via iTunes without re-googling it.

Next to replaceable batteries, simply being able to treat my Note 2 like a hard drive folder is my next favorite thing. Just drag and drop. No iTunes as the intermediary. Isn't the concept of folders easy enough?

Tempting, but I'm very happy with the Note 2... And it will soon be "off contract".

All great points. Not being tied to iTunes (sideload), replaceable batteries, file management directory are all features I miss from the other side. iPhones definitely have the hardware/software integration down to a science and also owning a Macbook the continuity feature on Yosemite has kept me here. I always wondered when they were going to in essence merge Airdrop between iOS and OS X...

Maybe you can clarify. A chevy Cavalier is a Small, cheap and unattractive vehicle. I fine the iphone to be bigger, good looking and expensive. That's a pretty awful comparison if you ask me

That's an easy question. Last year I determined the 5s was the best phone on the market. Well the best phone for me at least. As such, it was worth its premium. When you're the best there is you can charge a premium and people will pay.

This year, I think there are better phones out there, with better hardware, and more importantly, a more stable and capable OS.

This may all go to hell with Android L, which for all we know might turn out to be a disaster worse than iOS8. Maybe Apple will reinforce their phones a bit so they don't bend, and add some RAM and bump the resolution of the 6 and waterproof it. Then they'll be best again. We'll see I guess.

The Pinto was actually a pretty well made, durable and reliable car, especially in comparison to the Cavalier. It's handling, while sloppy, was at least predictable. The Cavalier handling was terrifying and completely unpredictable. The Cavalier engine was lucky to last 50,000 miles. The Cavalier drove millions to Japanese manufacturers.

The only real issue with the Pinto was that weak point in the back.

I still fail to see how the iphone 6 is like a chevy cavalier?

Also the pinto was a terrible vehicle. I see more chevy cavaliers than almost any car on the road overall. I'd say most have over 50k miles on them too. Maybe you should work on your comparisons

The better phones thing, that would be preference right? Stable o/s? Except for that 8.0.1 stupidity no real issues with IOS. Some nagging things, but what o/s is defect free? None.

Update: I think my replacement iPhone 6 plus is stable.

I did experience 1 crash to the white apple ghost. However, it was the fastest crash and reboot ever. Not sure if this is related, but that crash occurred in the hour after I installed that additional set of apple apps (Pages, etc) that aren't installed automatically. (the set you get prompted to install to complete the experience). I thought I'd experiment with them on the way home.

I only had 1.5 screens of apps when this happened, and no other crashes with this iPhone. I said a swear word out loud because I thought this was the beginning of a bunch more crashes.

However, no other crashes have happened this week.

Now, I want to re-install more of my old apps over the weekend. When I run iTunes 12.0.1 on my PC, how can I see a list of all apps that I have purchased or downloaded to my iPhone 5?

That will make this process faster than seaching the entire app store. Or hopefully at least not 10 minutes per app when I have hundreds of apps to reinstall...

The very first one I'm looking for I can't find. (The iTunes store was down for the first 5 minutes of while trying to find it - 11:35pm PT-ish, but I don't think that is related either. )

Why not look under the "purchased" tab on the iPhone?

I'm an Apple fanatic but you know what?

There are SOME things that Samsung paired with Android do/have that are better(IMO) than Apple/iPhone.

But you also know what? There are MANY things Apple/iPhone do/have that are better(also IMO) than Samsung with Android.

It comes down to personal preferences and hit/miss features of each ecosystem.

I choose Apple because there is a much smoother user interface combined with peer to peer connectivity that is native to Apple's ecosystem.

Quite honestly, if it hadn't been for Samsung and other makers of phones pushing the envelopes of size and features, Apple may not even be as enticing to me as it is. But that is a very big ?

I've got a Note 3 and it's been my very trusted storage device. I've also modded it so many times and it's not stumbled at all.

For a phone, it's terrible with call quality and size. For my pictures, music, and BT sync with my car, it's absolutely flawless. My Note 2 was just as great, person I sold it to is still enjoying it!

I am considering getting a 6 to move from my daily driver 5c. I'm just feeling a little gun shy as I got a 5s and didn't like it.

My 5c was the first device I genuinely liked so much that I currently own 2 of them.

Think I'll be going to play in the Apple store, we shall see for me.

How's the replacement so far?

Just curious, what do you like about the 5c and what didn't you like about the 5S? I would have thought they were practically the same device other than the casing.

So you had the phone replaced when a simple reset would have fixed it. Wow. Smh.
Wow. SMH at level of reading comprehension...

On my first 6+ after it soft crashed to the white apple while making 2 phone calls (but oddly did NOT disconnect the call - I just couldn't hear the caller for about 30 seconds until it rebooted)

I did this:

- Settings - General - scroll to bottom - reset - Erase All

- Restored from backup

That did not fix it.

Other times the soft crash occurred besides phone calls:

- When using Yelp

- When using TouchID to unlock

- When using Google Now

The 5c was the 5 in the plastic casing. My issues with the 5s were the power button rattle (Might of been from something inside), the feel of it in hand, and the color options. I just didn't like it. =(

The 6 has the same feel and color options but I don't know about the rattle. So I'm a little hesitant to get it.

I just fell into love with the blue 5c. The way it looked, felt, and performed just thrilled me. It was my first iPhone. Coming from being an Android fan girl, it just really changed my perspective. IOS 8 just doesn't seem to run right on it though so I'm pondering.

I'm heading to the Apple Store in a bit to feel out the 6 a little bit more. We shall see!

I thought Apple can run a diagnostic test on your phone with all of the apps on it and tell you what is causing it to crash, to include failing apps in the background?

My brand new 128gb iPhone 6 Plus $949 + $75+ tax gave up the ghost to the white apple crash screen. Permanently.

During the first quarter of Thursday night football Colts v Texans, my iPhone 6 plus crashed to the white apple screen and would not budge:

All the previous times it crashed to the white apple, it came back within a minute or so. This time, pressing the home key did nothing.

Image

8:45pm, 15 minutes before closing, I made it to the local Apple Store. The first genius said I'd need to make a genius bar appointment. The second genius on the way out told the first genius to just exchange it.

I lost 4 days of contact changes and photos. (No, I don't store my contacts or photos on someone else's computer i.e., the cloud. I do backup once a week via iTunes.)

I now have a nice shiny new iPhone 6 plus. I did *not* restore from backup, even though I now have hundreds of iPhone apps to re-install 1 by 1. But I probably won't re-install many till I know the crashing won't start again. I'll stick with a core set and rely on my Note 2 for the rest.

This experience with the iPhone 6 Plus makes me appreciate my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 even more. First purchased in November 2012 after the Apple 5 Maps fiasco ensured I'd get lost on my next trip, it has navigated me through a dozen countries in 2 years without a single problem. Before actual experience, my perception was Android would be less stable than iOS. It has been 100% stable.

The 2 of 500+ iOS apps I haven't been able to find Android equivalents of is:
- Awesome Note - a brilliant iOS app that makes Evernote or Google Drive look great
- Period Planner - a fertility planner iOS app. I'm sure there are Android options for this, but I'd rather use the one where I have all the historical data...

I'll probably always have an iPhone of one flavor or another. But I think my short term strategy will be to rely on my Note 2 more, at least until I know the iPhone 6 plus won't keep crashing. The biggest thrill beyond the Note 2's big high res screen has been its ultrathin replaceable batteries that weigh nothing and provide another entire day of use. All without hanging a kludgy cable and charger plugged in while trying to use it. The surprise usability feature of the Note 2 is the "invisible back key" - that area of the phone to the right of the home button. You tap it and it goes back to previous screen. Great for navigating between apps. Or even within apps when the "back" button can be located in different places top left, bottom left and sometimes even top or bottom right, oddly enough.

My iPhone 5 - only use cases became simplified to phone calls, contact list, and fertility planning app. The Note 2 does everything else (GPS, tethering to my PC, + anything visual, anything else audio except for phone calls). Even with those minimal use cases, I'd land at noon at JFK and by 8:00pm ET my iPhone 5 would be dead.

Another bummer - I had Ghost Armor'd the iPhone 6 plus screen already.

Weird, complete opposite for meThe Note 2 I used to own was honestly a PoS overtime and the screen sufferered burn in and the battery was getting weak holding a charge, and Plus is so much better in every single way and I have had no issues at all with apps, (they just need to be updated, the UI and also recompiled for iPhone 6/Plus but thats about it)

Rattle? Never had a button rattle on any of my iPhones, must have been a defective unit.

As for feel -- not sure exactly what you mean by feel. You mean the texture or the shape? The shape of the 6 is, IMO, closer to the 5c than the 5s. The 5s had square edges, which I didn't much like myself, but the 6 has a curved edge which I think feels lovely in my hand. And if you liked the texture of 5c, perhaps take a look at the Apple silicone case for the 6.

Will be looking forward to hear what you think once you've seen the 6. :)

I had the perfect intention of buying a 6 and had one of the most ridiculous experiences ever. Got told they had a few. I was asked to wait. 2 hours later and no rep to be found I asked again.

They said they'd been sold out since the morning.... And that they haven't been able to do T-Mobile jump activations all day either.

So why when I asked about my wait was my rep no where to be found?

I am glad of one thing:

I'm keeping that money I was about to spend in my pocket. Haha.

Oh and the 5c feels nice because it's a bit heftier and has a solid build to it. Plus it's blue. That's so silly but it's beautiful... Looks like I'm keeping it a while longer.
