Knowing I'm not going to keep, I wanted the Gold.

What's more interesting is people lining up/waiting for it, I walked up at a Bell kiosk Saturday afternoon and got my 64GB White 5S.

Had I been in the market for a 5s I would have been color screwed. I hate the white, no thank you on the gold and meh on silver.

Unfortunately Apple saw fit to take away black. Hopefully they change their mind when I'm up for upgrade with the 6.

I like black. That's why I chose my black iPhone 5 last year and that's my preference. If someone wants to laugh at me for having a year old phone…well they can keep laughing. I'll just keep using my perfectly good black iPhone 5.

Is the color of an iphone a factor in resale value? Never owned an iphone so I was just wondering.

People always want what they can't have. Then others just want to stand out because the gold won't blend in with 5's so people will know its new.

I definitely wanted the gold, but the white front was a deal breaker for me.

I admit I wanted the gold all along also. However, the white front does not do the gold back justice. Would look a whole lot nicer with a black front.

Does it look cheap?

IMO yeah it looks cheap. In pictures, especially ones which have been pumped up it looks awesome. But in person it kind of looks dingy, and once you get some fingerprints on it it's kind of nasty looking. The white face makes it look even cheaper and gaudy. It's just my opinion though, which is highly subjective of course. But I definitely changed my mind real quick when I saw it in person.

Whoever is saying the gold looks cheap has not seen one in person. its sublte.

I was actually slightly disappointed at how subtle the gold really was when I saw it on person! Call me ghetto, but it looks almost identical to the silver.

lighting can have a lot to do with it. I have a 32gb one and indoor lighting makes it look silverish. but outside you can definetly see the difference.

The gold iPhone is a nice & subtle shade of gold that really does look pretty classy & gorgeous at best.

However, the wrong lighting situations can also make it appear pretty distasteful real quick.

I could of had one as I rode the hype, but I came back to my senses and changed my mind back to silver.

I thought gold was a ridiculous idea until I saw one. It's rather attractive.

Can't say as though I'd have bought one, even if offered the choice. Maybe for variety? Dunno.

I would not, however, have purchased one out of a desire to let the world know I had the newest iPhone. I don't spend my time trying to show off my smartphone. I dunno. I got over that circa the 3G. It wasn't even that I showed my phone off so much as it was people noticing it and wanting to hold it. Same was true for the original iPhone. By 3GS, more people I knew were on board.

This same thing happened when Apple announced the all-white 4. It's just a change.

Space Gray is nice. It's a lot like black since it has a black front. It's actually reminiscent of the original iPhone. I went with white/silver (as I have for the 4s and 5), but was tempted for a minute to get Space Gray.

My sister bought the gold and is supposed to receive it today. Unfortunately, with small children in her house it's going into the new iPhone 5s leather case (beige, at least).

People bashed the gold 5s, now everyone wants it because of supply constraints. Funny how that will drive up demand for the gold 5s. Good old "want what you can't have".

Do you have specific examples of people that bashed it then bought one or are you just speculating? (And yes, I've seen documented bashers end up buying the very thing they bashed on this forum many times....just curious if you've seen it in this specific instance).

Imagine if Space Gray were introduced last year as an option for the iP5 while the dark black version from last year was introduced this year for the iPhone 5S. I feel like the black iPhone 5S would then be just as sought out as the Gold model. I probably would have also gotten the darker black this year instead of the Gold maybe.

But if instead of space gray this time around, they kept the same black shade as last year, I probably would just stick with gold because it's something new. Most people are getting gold because it's the new option. They could have introduced a nice shade of red and that probably would be the most sought out version.

I don't know if what I'm trying to say made any sense at all ..

People on the forums represent basically 0.0001% of the people buying iPhones. Everyone I know in real life was getting gold from day one. Everyone I know in real life can make decisions without needing validation from other people. Everyone I know has some dignity left in them unlike many of the people on here.

Point is, you are correct when talking about the people on these forums. But, in real life, most people had already chosen gold since they saw it at launch. It seems like a lot of people on here have no ability to make decisions on their own without checking with random strangers on the Internet.

I'm not complaining, I thought it was entertaining but also very very sad at the same time.

I got the space grey but really was not a option. I wanted the silver from the start. But I went and looked at all three and the gold is pretty muted in color per say and almost looks more like the silver version. I can see why folks may like it but did not do much for my taste. I'm happy with the space grey and originally thought about returning for silver but I gave up that thought as well. The space grey with the red leather case looks to be nice so going to get the case today since all the stores now have it in stock. Bottom line people gravitate to diffrent colors and there really is no right or wrong. But for me I don't see the big deal in gold except that is a new color.

Might be a good idea to go look at them first before going crazy trying to get one. Might find its not worth the wait to get one.

I dunno if I bashed gold as much as I was weary about it...but the champagne color gives it a much more classy look. Ordered mine at 12:05 9/20

I also am coming back from an android phone. Can't wait to get it in the mail

The gold is just straight bad. All I can see is this when looking at it....

I am in the group that was not that interested until I saw it in person. Now I am tempted . . .

I ordered my mother one after she insisted she wanted gold. I took her to the store the other day and she looked at it with a look of disappointment. Now I have a gold phone I that I'll end up returning (friend will probably come along to buy it) and swap for a silver one.
