This.

Unfortunately, US citizens have become increasingly less likely to choose vocational professions, instead opting for college “educations.” Good luck turning that ship around, Mr. Trump. I certainly wish him well and applaud the efforts, but I believe it’s about more than just price.

I've read articles on sites like this about Apple adding iPhone factories in Brazil and recently in India to get around the lack of free trade that India has. That debunks the thought that Chinese skills are required. Just seems they can put a factory wherever there are many people happy to work for low wages.

In other words "USA manufacturing salaries have been slashed to the point where we can return low paid factory jobs to the country". How's it feel to be the "beneficiaries" of the destruction of middle class wages?

For those whom are unaware of what I'm talking, GM has a new two tiered manufacturing pay scale. The people that were there before the bailout are still making decent money (somewhere north of $28 an hour, miserly compared to where the pay was historically for these jobs) while all new comers are making roughly $14 an hour.

We have come full circle chasing low labor rates to the point where "worker insecurity" (Alan Greenspan's favorite concept for big business) has decimated the middle class as they are now willing to work for anything above the typical service industry wages.

but robots need people to work on them. oversee them. watch logistics. maybe not millions of jobs, but could be hundreds.
In any case, these service/support jobs are not the same as assembly line ones - and they require a totally different skill set as well.

Instead of having both types of jobs tho, we'll likely only have one.

Not possible. Trump wouldn't allow Chinese companies to bring downfall on American workers (suicide rate and suited prevention nets).

Apple can try to get with some higher education institute and provide as a benefit for low-earning employee the possibility to do a free online 4 year degree. You stay with the company 4 years, you produce, you get free classes and get out of the production line with a Bachelor Degree.

As noted in the article, it's more than just a cheap labor issue. It would require massive numbers of ancillary companies to do exactly the same thing, to make the component parts needed, otherwise we're really only talking about finish assembly in the US, that would as others have noted, likely be done with robots not humans.

We are at the point where we have to stop thinking in terms of how we use to live and work, because those days are over for a lot of people (and it's heading that way for even more people). We are moving towards a time where less and less people are needed to produce products, food, etc., so we're going to need to find something new for people to do in order to earn a living and contribute to society.

Is that the official logo?

If it does, iPhone costs goes up, I mean how else does Apple maintain their ridiculously inflated margins?

But I do support this.

Apple, like always, is going to be completely hands off and have Pegatron or Foxconn handle all the labor relations parts.

Taking a political talking point during a raucous election literally is misguided. The agenda that will be passed by Congress and signed by the President will be a modest change to tax laws, investment deductions, marginal rates, etc., that will incentivise companies generally to increasingly manufacture in the US.

The government does not generally pick out one manufacturer and target them. It will not next year either. It will have some changes to legislation and regulation that is more biased to domestic businesses over foreign businesses. That's all.

Cook correctly notes the shortage of Vocational education in this country. Increasing that would be a great thing.
