Higher resolutions than the one iPhones have right now are... stupid. You use VR on your phone once a month if you're a hardcore VR fan, but you pay more and get worse battery life every day. A camping van is cool but it's stupid to buy it as your everyday car. Some companies just want to give all the features, Apple only wants to give perfectly working and useful ones (risking to look old).
If VR becomes mainstream (and I mean every phone buyer would use it every day), Apple will put serious VR support.

Is there a dumber idea than a 4k display on a phone?

As in, why would you do that when you could just save power with a regular display?

I may wrong about this, but doesn't the retina display already come with a higher pixel density than a 4k panel?

Won't be too long until iPhones have more powerful GPUs than Apple's computers!

What Apple computers?

Graphics mean nothing anymore for iOS games. So now we need a million cores to run candy crush and every other garbage free to play game ?

I wish more companies made higher end graphically intense games for iOS but people can't handle spending $3 for a game when they spend $5 on a latte.

I wish the iPhones could run normally for more than a year or two after buying it. My iPhone 6Plus can take 10 or more seconds to react to pressing the home button. Typically I wake it up on my home wifi to use it and it begins updating apps, slowing down it's response.

Maybe if Apple would quit trying to make a phone (or tablet) a computer and just come out with NEW COMPUTERS, it would really be appreciated!!!

Fingerprint and retinal scans will become useless once they apply this to hologram clones of people. Now only if they can transfer our brains to those clones, we could live on forever.

They do it because the competition is doing it, and consumers have org**** over specs. No other reasons.

That's no reason TO do it.. Just because everyone says jump, doesn't mean u have to.. Completion and if Apple doesn't offer it, people will go elsewhere where it does, so what's the harm in that ?

It's not like everyone will want 4K in a phone .. Apple still has its user base.. but the thing is Apple wants to be the best always, so they "must do it.." to attract everyone to an iPhone. when they need to understand people are not bowing down to Apple... They have their own minds.

So the iPhone will be able to use VR before any Mac gets graphics cards powerful enough to run VR?

Why "England-based" ? Generally, we refer to our nation as the UK.
Because most get confused between England, Great Britain, the UK

Perhaps this GPU is not ultimately intended for the iPhone. What if Apple used this GPU in an upcoming ARM-based Mac?

While I am not fond of this idea, MS is continuing to move toward an ARM-based OS. In fact, MS just announced plans to accelerate Windows Server on ARM. It may take a few years, but i can see this happening in about five years.

Well, how else will they get you to buy a new phone every year?

Picked up the Nintendo Switch at launch, I'm done with mobile phone games filled with micro transactions. There will never be something as epic as Zelda BOTW on any mobile phone. I think dedicated handheld gaming is one thing the iPhone did not replaced (vs MP3 players for example).

Yes, Apple has definitely dropped the ball on a highly-refined user interface, and developers have capitalized on that with their own versions of the interface, creating a mixed bag experience across Mac apps. Not liking it.

As for iOS 10 feeling slow on your 6S, that sounds like you may have some misbehaving or outdated apps. The OS runs super fast on my SE and my girlfriend's 6S. No sluggishness anywhere. Do you quit apps periodically or leave everything running in the background?

I'm almost 100% sure by "lagging software" he meant the development of iOS was lagging behind the capabilities of the hardware. I would certainly agree.

it's more on how much cocurrent application install inside. My 5s still fast and play marvel fight 3d no lag.. i only will moved to se edition if this broken. 6 7 to big for me.

No, it is three different country's plus Ireland. If a place is based in England it's perfectly acceptable to say, based in England.
You may want to check an up to date atlas, Ireland is a completely separate country and has nothing to do with the United Kingdom.

The official country name is "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" which is usually shortened to United Kingdom or UK, some people also use Great Britain instead.

It's up to the editor what style they use but in this instance I would have used UK-based given that it's the internationally recognised country name. On the flip side Imagination are based in England so geographically England-based isn't wrong.

It's funny what price points people accept for different things. People buy $500 plus phones and then complain about $3-5 dollar apps. And this goes across the board, not just people who buy iPhones. Personally, I would rather spend $5 on something that didn't have ads, or track every place I go and report back to some company. In short, I'd rather just pay for the program and the ability to use it rather than have tons of ads and tracking features turn me into a product to be sold to thousands of companies who have a very wide range of ethics.

It takes a GTX 1080 to even try gaming at 4K on a computer. It will take years before mobile processing reaches that point
I have a GTX 980 and game at 4K just fine. Now, I can't game at 90fps at that resolution - the minimum FPS required for virtual reality... but games are totally playable. Mobile can handle the res too by significantly simplifying the graphics... but not at a framerate that would make 4k VR possible any time soon.

I think people here are just getting hung up on the "VR" part of "PowerVR". For nerds of a certain age, "PowerVR" conjures images of the Namco System 32 arcade board or the Dreamcast; not VR. For nerds of a different age, it's Apple TV and Android tablets. VR has nothing to do with it. They're just a SOC tech developer.

That's why I said 'Plus Ireland', I meant it as the UK and Ireland because I know exactly how it's pronounced, it's as you said, it probably didn't come across how I wanted in my post.

and it's not wrong in the slightest to say England or Welsh or Scottish based, they ARE three separate countries at the end of the day, it's like saying a company is based in Califirnia is just as correct as saying American based.

Why assume this is purely for gaming? AI & machine learning all benefit greatly from a beefy GPU.

External display and AppleTV not for integrated display.

Won't happen... and will likely never happen. Apple's best GPU is garbage based on a chipset from 2012 and conveniently found in the Mac Pro from 2013 that still sells at it's original price from 4 years ago.

Forget about gaming on the mac. Just get a PC and call it a day.

Just shut up please

You know the state of the Mac is bad when your iPhone can power a VR headset but your $3200 Macbook Pro with Touchbar can't

I guess it depends on how you look at it...
You'd be strapping on goggles to augment a consumer device & play games? Or to get professional work done on your PC?
If the later, shame on Apple for preventing you from doing the Pro work you need to accomplish on your Pro machine! If the former, well then... if/when such a consumer toy comes out; looks like iPhone will be well equipped to power it.
