I know a lot of changes are coming with the slashing of iTunes. Also streaming is basically a norm these days. All my CD's ripped in ALAC, All my DVD's are archived digitally in iTunes. I even started putting my BD collection on iTunes. The ecosystem has treated me nicely for many many years. I have a mac mini server running iTunes and managing all my media including sync of phones and tablets over wifi. With the shift to streaming and breaking up iTunes I'm concerned about Home Sharing. I feel like they could've focused on that a little. Anyone out there that still manage a very large library in iTunes and then Home Share to the Apple TV?

I doubt it’s going anywhere. It will probably be in the TV app like it is in the iOS app.

    STOP WORRYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Nothing is changing.
Apples DOES NOT forget its creatives out there. Apple thinks forward but does not rip off its users of important things. (SONY or Samsung or others may do this but it's not Apple's style).
iTunes has been divided into three. THAT IS ALL

    Everything is still there.
Whether it's the media reporting wrongly or something but people really are worrying about something that is not happening.

Home Sharing is now located under System Preferences in Mac OS Catalina. Everything is there. Yep, your Apple TV can still see your photo albums too.

The Computer is app is still there on tvOS13. Heck, even apple.com assures iTunes users that everything regarding their music is still there. Check out news releases from Apple to read more.

Here is a very nice look at tvOS13

PS Hi JBaby - hope that you are well! :)

Very awesome thank you and TRULY LOVING all that WWDC has brought! Very inspiring. So nice to see how passionate the people were from Apple that were on stage giving the presentations. The whole thing had a great vibe!

YES YES YES!!!!! My gosh yes AND what a beautiful, elegant Lady too! So came across as a real classy, chic lady - I loved her knowledge, enthusiasm and genuine nature - there was no insincere sales sell with it - something that I can spot immediately!
I was bowled over by her - she was REAL!!! I think that she was my favourite of all of the awesome people there AND the guy who gave the Apple photos presentation - his enthusiasm was infectious!
Probably Apple's best WWDC event IMO - just because it was real!

I squealed when she rolled out!!! It’s not often I see someone similar to me in such a grand place.

They did seem more relaxed year. It looked like they were having fun. It was a good keynote. I really enjoyed it. I can’t wait for the tv+ channel! For All Mankind looks soo good!

Yeah I gotta admit I was attracted to her style. I hate it when really bossy kinds take to the stage and over sell - that's such a turn off for me!
Yes it must be hard for Apple especially a few year ago when they weren't launching anything exciting in terms of design etc - trying to look enthusiastic on stage when you know that there are great designs a few years down the line but you at that moment in time have to look excited about an iPhone 6 or 6S or 7 when in reality, you know that the X will change the game :)
Big respect to Apple - the only thing Apple TV /iTunes is lacking now is the whole catalogue moving to DD+ for a greater audio experience. If Netflix can do it - Apple can. Let's hope :)

It works, but may I suggest using another app, Plex, Infuse and Emby all offer better media libraries managing tools. Home Sharing works, For Now.

Homesharing broke for me when the new Apple TV app was forced on me. The TV device knows that homesharing is on and which computer and library to look for, but NEVER loads the library. Apple has already forgotten me, and I'm praying this refresh fixes the bug.

Sounds like a bug that I had in my iPhone when on iOS9 - every time that I wanted to use Home Sharing for videos, I had to sign out of Home Sharing in the video setting on my iPhone and sign in again - then it worked!

Thanks for your suggestion. Much appreciated. I've been reading everyone's suggestions. Looks like sign out and sign in everywhere is required, so I'm giving that at try.

You're super welcome! I found that you only need to sign out and then in on the device that will be playing the film, in your case your iPad :)

IF you have hundreds of films that you've ripped Infuse app could be a better option.

I don't use Home Sharing very often anymore however I do have a very large library. Of all the network sharing options out there like you I always just preferred iTunes with Home Sharing.

Apple still has reasons they need to keep Home Sharing around that benefits them. While it might not be there core focus it won't be until they have a need to stop supporting that they will stop supporting it. Since they have such a tight ecosystem around that (their software, hardware and store) there really isn't too much to threaten Home Sharing.

The alternatives to iTunes Home Sharing are really good though. I like iTunes Home Sharing for ease of use but Plex and Kodi were nice too especially with 1st party dedicated server software for NAS devices. So even in the event the worst eventually happens and Home Sharing is removed one day it will just be a minor hiccup aka don't worry about.

While having "Home Sharing as a service" is a great idea (and one I've wanted for quite awhile now), I'd be ecstatic if they would just give us a unified view of all of our content, either local or streaming. The TV app is getting close, but until they offer the ability of the local library to be included, it still isn't quite there.

The alternative would be Apple allowing apps like Infuse to include content in the TV app... that might actually be more probable (although I've heard nothing about it).

This screenshot suggests local content is included, it just isn't working for everyone (unless it's not supposed to be working for those it is).

That's the Apple TV application running on Catalina, so far tvOS does not seem to exhibit the same behavior.

Ah gotcha, thought you were referring to the Mac app.

tvOS still has the Computers app and I'm just happy Home Sharing is still an option. It's not ideal but downloading your purchased content and watching via Computers app gives you the unified library.
