I would still like to know how you are supposed to leave your iphone behind and listen to music on the run.. In says that on the product page.. Seems like they have more to add before launch..

Thats the point, the info given at the keynote was small, but you do have to bring you iphone with you to do all you saw in the videos. Something apple is keeping a bit quiet about. The shots of the women running? You'd need the iphone with you, but the video suggests people running without phones.

For what it does it's insanely expensive. Hopefully after the product matures a bit the price will drop too, i doubt it will sell a lot at it's current capabilities & price range, it's not that tempting to buy even if i had the money for it.

Seriously.. Are we still doubting Apple products ability to sell??

I think there are two issues with GPS: the antenna and the power requirements.

The antenna poses both a size and a case materials challenge. And just look at what happens to battery life on a phone when you leave the GPS active.

Exactly, nailed it.

Apple Watch will be a huge success for the following reasons:

1) It is industrial design perfection, one professional watch expert was so impressed with the inovations and quality of Apple's straps he went as far as to say 'they make the Swiss look like amatures'!
2) It is fashion focussed and a means of rich personal expression
3) They nailed the user interaction, with genius innovation
4) Apple Pay will be a deeply satisfying comsumer experience and it will work best with the watch, every observer without one will look on with envy
5) It will make communication more intimate, creative and instant
6) It's far more practical for monitoring exercise than taking along a phone, especially since the phones are now huge.

1. In the $350 price range? Sure. $5000 or higher? Mmmm. A $5000 watch will shine for a lifetime. As mentioned prior, how well will the watch work with your iPhone after 600 charges? We need better batteries.
2. Geek factor
3. ? Let the reviews come in first
4. Tapping a card or Android phone has been out for over a year in these parts. No.
5. Than... using the phone in your pocket?
6. You need an iPhone for the watch

My opinion, but there are two major reasons why Apple didn't include more sensors:

First of all, the majority of advanced health sensor hires were done in the past 12 months. That's likely not enough time to roll a sophisticated and highly accurate sensor into a device that is already on the chubby side. Tech is only so small at this point, and adding more sensors it would add more bulk.

Second, Apple is already struggling in the battery department, and I imagine a large portion of battery drain goes to constant infrared and visible light beams which track your heart rate. Same reason why GPS is not included yet. Add everything we could possibly desire, and you have a device the size of a cube strapped to your wrist.

Heart rate is most important, so I'm glad that capability made it. Second is the improvement of battery life that will allow sleep tracking, instead of having your watch off your wrist and charging all night.

Sounds likely. Future versions should get very interesting indeed. Glucose monitoring will be vital to many Americans, even for those who aren't diabetic, it could introduce a whole new era of diet sculpting. Imagine watching your glucose levels after meals to learn how to cook and eat healthier low glycemic index foods. I'd buy an iWatch that could do that in a heartbeat.

These are probably the same people that want it to be as thin as possible but have wifi, gps and last for a week on a charge. And who's to say Apple isn't working on other stuff like an advanced fitness band. I doubt this watch is the end of their foray into wearables.

It's only the beginning.

Looks like they got some good hidden goodies!

Off the apple features page..

"Music. Control the music on your iPhone without taking it out of your pocket. And when you leave iPhone at home to go for a jog, listen to music directly on Apple Watch."

As soon as I saw that thing I thought, I'll wait til v.2, when it's half as thick and 4x more useful and powerful, because this looks like an Apple 1.0 product, that you very quickly wish you didn't pay top dollar for 9 months later when it's worthless because the hardware is so hopelessly underpowered it can't even run a software upgrade.

...actually, I think I'm done with this ungodly expensive disposable gadget habit.

That's my first impression as well. But I think we were spoiled by subsidized phone prices. Just look around at regular electronic watches from likes of Casio and Swatch. Then this watch becomes quite a bargain.

the apple watch is not out yet. this device is and as a fitness health watch it bests the apple device in every way:

looks better, too.

Yuck. I hate heart rate sensor around the chest. And it's > $500!!

Actually, I find apple gadgets generally work pretty well for 4 to 5 years. Hence, the good resale value.

Wow, well this thread just goes to show how much people today take technology for granted.

The tech, engineering, and r&d that goes in to creating a device like this is nothing short of remarkable. Does it have every feature every person wants? No, but I'd like to see them build one. ;)

In 2-3 years when this tech starts to mature, that's when it will really take off and have all the killer features everyone wants.

They should have gone round.. would fit their circle ui design language they are going for a whole lot more, and look how sexy this thing looks.

That mockup has an unusable crown, 3 hour battery life, and no room for front-facing sensors. Of course it looks good when you can ignore engineering and physics.

Let's not make excuses for the Apple watch being average. It should have been released with more sensors to begin with or not at all until it was ready. I thought this was the apple way.

The future version of the galaxy gear will probably have more sensors too but the current one is a piece of ****.

I expected the Apple watch to WOW us with all these great sensors and features that all the other "clueless" manufacturers couldn't come up with but it was just plain boring.

Im sorry but NO.

I call ********.

I was personally hoping I could just sync the music to it and then plug in headphones but it doesn't look like this thing has a headphone jack, so idk.

obviously future generations will be better
and obviously Apple is going to ration those features out over the years

gen 1 was about marketing the user experience...with little to no things to experience. lots and lots of customization and personalization, but not a whole lot of what people would have preferred to see. Apple Watch gen 1 will sell well, as pretty much every apple product has for well over a decade. Apple Watch 2 will likely have significant gains and that is when i will pounce.

i am interested to see what the refresh cycle will be for the Apple Watch. every year seems excessive

that shape would mean a smaller screen or they would have to make it absurdly big for a screen with the same outer corner dimensions as it would be if it was rectangular

circular body also means less room for components, which are square. boards are square, chips are square, etc. they can't curve those things and re-arranging them to fit in a circle would lead to a lot of wasted space

They probably already have a small team working on version 2. And they aren't going to put all of the goodies in at the beginning. They have to keep it moving forward to entice people to upgrade. I actually wonder if they will have a shorter period for the version 2 release. If the first one launches in January or February, you would think that they would try to get one ready for the holiday season when people are buying like crazy. They update the iPhone, iPad and sometimes the Macbooks yearly, so who knows. This watch isn't going to be be about longevity.

Jesus Christ.

Are we really going to start rumormongering about the next version of the Apple Watch before the one just released even starts shipping?

If anything, this only shows what an epic overhype this product was.

It was a huge over hype on tech sites and Apple related sites, not by Apple themselves. But I can honestly say I didn't have my socks knocked off when it was announced and shown on Tuesday. I'll wait until I see it in person before I judge.
