I'll file and forget this tech for a couple of years while Apple works it's way thru its customer beta program.

In the meantime it's too agonizing to watch.

yea yea, apparently thats how Apple rolls.

Obviously they cannot have lesser features in the later versions.

So thanks for quoting the obvious.

Previous article indicated that iphone 6 JUST MISSED SAPPHIRE!! AAAWWW SO CUTE.

Consumer isn't an IDIOT and Apple is taking us all for a nice ride.

For lack of choice and security offered by any other device manufacturers, I'm with Apple and will continue to take the load of iCrap.

Have the link to that article?

I had in mind the article by Benjamin Clymer at Hodinkee. This guy is a mechanical watch guy who hates ALL digital watches - he thinks they're for geeks not "real people". Never-the-less he was impressed with the quality of Apple Watch.

http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/hodinkee-apple-watch-review

Here is a proper quotation of what he wrote:

"This "loop" style bracelet is just fantastic, and unlike the bracelet on my Omega, it just works. It's magnetized and you can close it at any size. It is light to wear, but substantial, and feels fantastic on the wrist. How does it compare to this nice Tissot with a similar bracelet? Switzerland, you don't want to know.
...
Again, Apple has paid excruciating attention to detail in the design and wearability of the Apple Watch. In many cases, its offerings make what is coming out of Switzerland (or Asia) look amateurish."

You always want to wait for rev 2 of an Apple product :). But you can get rev 1 just to enjoy the start of something new.

People are disappointed in the watch because it won't do everything that non Apple people speculated it would do? Things that Apple never mentioned? Some people had it curing cancer, etc. All rumors, all speculation, none of it instigated by Apple.

These are probably the same people that want it to be as thin as possible but have wifi, gps and last for a week on a charge. And who's to say Apple isn't working on other stuff like an advanced fitness band. I doubt this watch is the end of their foray into wearables.

Version 2 will be undoubtedly much better. Look at iPhone 1 -->iPhone 3gs ( I know iPhone 3g is the 2.0 version but not really; same internals/screen, different cellular bands should not count as 2.0, but this is highly opinionated), or iPad ->iPad 2 revisions, they were considerably better than its predecessor.

:apple:watch will be much cooler in version 2.0 if enough people buy 1.0 to ensure a guaranteed return on their investment. This will happen if they continue their typical Apple pace.

I recommend that people buy an :apple:watch just in case it gets to be super successful you can then own a small piece of Apple's history. Plenty of people love their iPhone 1.0's.

I will buy it just so I can pay with it and then keep it as collectible.

I personally think the battery life will be poor when it finally goes on sale. Although its nice looking, its not what i want in a health tracker, and its expensive. Ill be going with the Garmin Vivosmart when its released, as that has phone notifications as well as all the usual tracking, lasts for a week and will be around $199. Im sure the apple watch will sell to die hard apple fans, but i think we're going to have to wait for a year or so until its what it should be.

Thanks!! I didn't know about the Garmin watches.

The current :apple:Watch hasn't even been released yet and we already have rumors for the next version, really, can we at least wait for this one to come out before we start to talk of the next one.

What would expect they would do remove all of the sensors and current functionality and just make it a watch with nothing else?

god, it's always going to have more features/functionality with each generation, it's always been that way, it will always be that way until they can't jam anymore technology inside or add any additional s/w functionality.

Apple have been working on this for years; they aren't going to just stop or make the next iteration any less good if v1 doesn't live up to expectations. If the product doesn't sell (and I can't imagine that it wouldn't), Apple will want to know why it isn't selling well and make fixing those things a priority.

The biggest danger areas are the ones everybody on here have been mentioning: thickness and battery life. Sensors are nice, but health tracking isn't the only feature of the watch: Apple made a big deal over the communication features and third-party Apps.

Nobody wears watches anymore.
Who wants to upgrade their gold watch every other year?
No subsidies.
Needs to be linked to an iPhone 6.
Limited Wow factor.
Limited function.

I think the Apple watch may be the next Newton...

Though the Apple Watch was only unveiled on Tuesday, the site says that some healthcare professionals who were hoping for "groundbreaking health features" were left disappointed with the watch's fitness capabilities.

Correction: the news service. Not a "site." You are just another "site," essentially a privately monetized PR arm of Apple.

Reuters does something called news -- and whether they do it very well or not is debatable. But it's quite a different thing altogether from what you do at Macrumors, which involves what Mae West called putting your lips together and blowing.

as it stands the Apple watch is "nice", far nicer than the competition sure, but really a dud. A really nice dud. The watch's sales will surely be disappointing. Design wise and usability wise the watch is just OK. It really needed to stay under wraps for a while longer,. it just wasn't ready for prime time.

At it stands these gadgets are more like Google Glass in that they seem more suited to certain industries like for police or drivers or anyone on the move who needs quick bites of information.

Despite Jony and Apple design cache, they really don't look nice enough to be jewelry people will want to wear. They still look like a small phone strapped to your wrist.

Here's looking to the next iteration and Marc Newson's input.

Much like the ipad 1 to ipad 2, I imagine the apple watch 2 will be an extremely significant upgrade.

I would still like to know how you are supposed to leave your iphone behind and listen to music on the run.. In says that on the product page.. Seems like they have more to add before launch..

Are GPS components big? Are they getting squeezed out of the Watch due to the health sensors? Are GPS readers on the market now the size they are because the components are too big for a reasonable sized watch?

I think there are two issues with GPS: the antenna and the power requirements.

The antenna poses both a size and a case materials challenge. And just look at what happens to battery life on a phone when you leave the GPS active.

Well THAT is what I thought it was going to have "out of the gate"....and why I was so disappointed when it actually was unveiled.

So why would anyone buy a half baked product now?

The game of string the consumer along continues....

It the apple way, times by 1000.

The watch doesn't even do what out there at the moment. Some people will purchase, enough for apple to keep with it? Im not sure. Could be the next 5c. If so its their own fault. Holding out for years to see what other, smaller companies do, they had the option to really improve, but what we've got has not really moved the sector forward.

Ive was focusing on making the wrong device skinny. The iPhone could be a bit thicker and still be OK, but this Apple Watch is way too thick. Perhaps if it was curved a bit.
