Biggest disappointment

This was my biggest disappointment. While I didn't think it was going to have 10 sensors, I thought it would do more than just your heart rate. I've been holding back signing up for a premium account from Strava and/or Runkeeper hoping that the Apple Watch would give all the same features as those two apps.

In some ways it does but I was hoping for a bit more. I was never really sold on it to begin with but I had hoped that Apple would surprise me. At this point I think I'll hold off and wait until at least the 2nd and maybe even 3rd iteration.

And this is one of the problems with wearables and especially expensive smart watches. No matter which version you buy it'll be obsolete within 2 possibly 3 years at the most. In my opinion of course.

I liken it to digital cameras vs old film cameras. Thirty years ago if you bought a top of the line Nikon or Leica they would take as good a picture as something bought say 10 years ago. With digital it doesn't matter how high end you buy, a few years down the line, hell even two years down the line, newer digital cameras will take better pictures. Between advancements in the chips and higher mp it's inevitable.

I honestly miss my old film cameras. They were phenomenal. Now after only 5 years I really need to upgrade. In many ways newer technology makes our lives better. In some cases not so much and it feels more like a money grab than anything else.

Ah hell...life goes on:confused::)

Re thinner

What it needs is this : be thinner.

For a 1st iteration product, it's not bad at all, and looks fairly well priced. But the Apple Watch will really start to be a ferocious product in this category in iterations 2 or 3.

I totally get the thought that it could have been thinner. I think that this is where watch world meets iPhone world, and watches win...

Have you seen really thin watches? They're kind of "too slick" looking...not the way watches are going right now.

Apples two watches are 38 and 42mm, close to what a classic Rolex might be, even though watch faces have been getting larger...some people won't wear a watch under 50mm.

To me, if iWatch was any smaller or thinner, it would lose some of its fashion.

I'm excited to get an Apple Watch Sport. I'll have to see them in person to decide whether to get the 38mm or 42mm. It'll be tough to choose a strap colour - probably go with black to start.

I have to say that I'm disappointed that the Apple Watch is not waterproof. Apple should have had the Sport waterproof at least.

I'm also disappointed that I have to have an iPhone accompany it for GPS and wifi. I find carrying the iPhone while running and cycling a nuisance; and now that the iPhones are getting bigger, an independent watch is more important.

As far as missing sensors... I wonder if the watch has sufficient sensors and it now depends on developers to use WatchKit to come up with apps that will utilize them and provide us with additional data?

I want loads of sensors, and battery life.

The phone is all the display I need. Ditch it for the wrist.

Future version to do more...

Then maybe I'll buy a future version...

As soon as I saw this one with the fat, shiny metal and the black, shiny glass I thought of the original iPhone and even the original iPod. They were not products that tempted me but they hinted at something good coming down the line in future product revisions. We'll see.

Well THAT is what I thought it was going to have "out of the gate"....and why I was so disappointed when it actually was unveiled.

So why would anyone buy a half baked product now?

The game of string the consumer along continues....

They should redesign it and make it round while they're at it.

Never happen. The $349 starting price we're paying for now isn't the sum of the components plus a profit for Apple. It's the R&D over years that led Apple to decide on things like that rectangular screen. You cannot design an OS from scratch for a rectangular screen and then just change it to round next year. If it was a true fashion accessory then maybe they could but it's an electronic smart watch with many functions.

I still don't get the need for this -If it were 100.00 I could see it as a possible addition but for that price, and what it does I really don't see how it will sell.

Health functions would have been more important for me than to have a watch.
I already have a lot of watches and didn't want one from Apple.

It's too bad they went in the direction of trying to replace watches.

By the way, the apple watch will either create new buyers (non watch users) and/or steal buyers from the existing markets (watch buyers and health tracker buyers).

Almost every watch forum I visit people are not very interested in it.
Maybe I will do a poll later but it seems unlikely that a significant portion of the $40 billion Swiss watch industry revenue will shift to apple.
It seems more likely that the majority of buyers will be general people who don't wear watches.
Either way, a non watch sensor could have worked better.
I suppose apple has done its research so I am sure my intuitions are not correct but I can't help but wonder what such a device might have been like.

For Blood sugar this would really have to be leaps and bounds above technology thats out there. They have tried glucose watches in the past and they just dont work. They are not accurate having tons and tons of issues. I have been diabetic over 30 years and exreemly into the gadgets for diabetes. However, many of these "cool" ideas come and go
I just read somewhere about a contact lenses that was being worked on for blood glucose... I can't remember where I saw it mentioned though

What it needs is this : be thinner.

HTF do you know? You've neither worn nor seen one in person. Why does it NEED to be thinner. You don't hold it. You wear it. It's sits on your wrist just the same if it's a few millimeters or a few more millimeters. Why don't you go tell them how to shave off a few millimeters.

For how much technology is in it, you're lucky it's not a cube.

Sapphire

People complaining about the prices are absolutely hilarious. A normal every day regular old stylish watch from Fossil is going to cost you around $100 depending on the exact model, and this watch has every bit and more in terms of material quality, fit and finish, before you even factor in the electronics/smart watch aspect of it. More trendy watches such as Diesel are going to be at least $200 (and again, just a watch), never mind the Swiss brands. Apple is a trendy company who sells products at the upper tier of pricing. Good watches aren't cheap, and watches also aren't smartphones. This has no phone company tied to it to subsidize the cost for a contract. Use your brains a little bit and quit effing complaining, or better yet.....DONT BUY IT.

Fossil watches use mostly mineral crystals, much less scratch resistant than the iWatch's sapphire, too.

I think the reason they have set up 3 distinct sub-products is so future versions can take 3 different tracks on development.

:apple:Watch Edition - will keep basic feature set and favour thinness.
:apple:Watch Sport - will keep current size and favour features/sensors.
:apple:Watch will balance the two or could favour communications features like LTE radio.

I still don't get the need for this -If it were 100.00 I could see it as a possible addition but for that price, and what it does I really don't see how it will sell.

$100.

Where do you people come from? Absolutely unbelievable.

All 8 of them.

These devices will become very popular as health insurance companies will start giving discounts for those practicing healthy habits, etc.

Blood glucose levels and EKG would make the device a category "owner".

Samsung has announced a "Simband" reference design that incorporates EKG. With EKG many cardio conditions can be caught early saving lives and expensive paramedic/ER visits. If your health insurance is half price if you live a healthy lifestyle and wear one of these watches, demand will be huge.

Have the link to that article?

I think they might be referring to this (though not sure about that specific quote):

www.hodinkee.com/blog/hodinkee-apple-watch-review

The overall level of design in the Apple Watch simply blows away anything – digital or analog – in the watch space at $350. There is nothing that comes close to the fluidity, attention to detail, or simple build quality found on the Apple Watch in this price bracket.
....
Apple absolutely, positively, indisputably NAILED its straps and bracelets. In addition to offering a bevy of options from leather to fluoroelastomer to link bracelets to Milanese, it is here that you really see how much attention Apple was paying to the way people wear watches, and the how bad existing options were.
....
The Apple Watch can take an integrated strap or bracelet, or one with wire lugs. It totally changes the look of the watch, and swapping them couldn't be any easier. Changing straps is one thing, but the attention to detail on the straps and bracelets themselves is downright incredible, and when I mentioned above that nothing comes close in this price range, it is very visible when talking about straps.

The common theme from those who have seen the watches in person is the straps are very nice. I think that's the one place Apple has a leg up on competitors.

Just buy it and sell it when the second generation comes out. It will keep most of its value and be much less of a hassle to sell than a phone is.

ill be more interested when there's a circular version. the square version is simply not my style.

Hey, the Mac Pro is round. I'm saving my pennies for one of those! For a watch w/ a screen and apps, a round design is just not an efficient use of space. Very limiting.

People are disappointed in the watch because it won't do everything that non Apple people speculated it would do? Things that Apple never mentioned? Some people had it curing cancer, etc. All rumors, all speculation, none of it instigated by Apple.
