I penned the name "liquor glass" in august as I was kidding.
boy, did that karma'd my s big-time!

now
I never use my iPad for anything except drawing cartoons.
since the best thing about "ios26.numbers we can remember" is the liquor glass.

On the subject of ios26 icons, the original post reminded me again about how much I hate the new camera app icon. If they wanted to update the icon so that it doesn’t look like an obsolete physical camera, I can understand that. Probably not necessary, since most people just see the old camera image as representing the camera app, not a physical camera. But the new icon is so ugly and completely unimaginative, it’s unreal. They didn’t try at all.

I see what you mean, and I miss those crisp icons too. Hopefully Apple can introduce some refinement in the future to strike a balance between LG and "retro" icons. I love both, but some things just look a little... unfinished?

I must be stupid, bad, and wrong, because I was tired of the over-simplified flat design. I find the addition of a little depth and nuance to the interface refreshing. I can understand how this leads some to see things as blurry, because we've moved away from harsh lines and flat colours everywhere. If you liked those harsh lines and flat colours, then it's perfectly understandable to not be happy about it. Nonetheless I remain stunned by the strength of the vitriol xyzOS 26 is getting. I expected there to be some because there always is, but this is something else! It's not like Snow Leopard where users were losing their entire home directory because they logged into a guest account on their machines!

I guess I must be an Apple shill too.

[Edit: I know Snow Leopard isn't the best example to use in the iOS sub-forum, but I'm tired, and meh]

If you have an argument against the opposing view, make it and have it stand on its own. No need to resort to lowest common denominator “here come the Apple fanbois/gurls who are so in the tank for Apple their opinion is invalid” crap.
There are a number of frequent flyers on these forums who are so blindly loyal that you can predict with near 100% accuracy what their opinion will be. Several have posted in this thread already.

I think the argument several people have made that the new icons are blurry does stand on its own.

It's the lighting and shadow and parallax effect. Try the Reduce Transparency option in the Accessibility menu or select the Tinted option in the Liquid Glass menu under Display & Brightness.

The problem with the icons is the lack of contrast. I liked the depth of iOS 6, but it also had much more contrast which made it look sharp and crisp (though a bit dated now)

My guess is the decrease in contrast is intentional so they can ramp up the brightness on these OLED displays with less noticeable burn in, and with Macbooks soon to be getting OLED they’re preparing for the future there too

People said the same thing when iOS 7 came out lol
Mac fans said OS X 10.0 was the Fisher Price OS...

I'm interested to see where it goes. I'll just enjoy the journey.

The top icon to me looks better. Of course pixel peeping like this makes everything look blurry, but the top icon looks better in this example.
May I briefly point out that this is not about what you personally prefer?

This thread is about objective aspects, not your opinion.

Objectively, the old icons have higher contrast and sharper edges.
Can you accept this fact?

Insulting a number of forum members at once will earn you a special privilege here at Macrumors.

But no, imo, the argument does not stand in its own.

I disagree, this is about my opinion. All of this is about opinion. Specially the first example posted where it appears the newer app icon is actually better looking. (Again imo)

I remember that. I was personally on the fence when it came out, but started liking it shortly after. This is quite different.

For iOS 26 however, I disliked it when it came out, and dislike it even more than when it was released. It’s not growing on me, but looking more dated and cheap the longer it’s out.

Now, the guy who the head of Liquid Glass, Alan Dye, is gone, and it’s coming out of woodwork how much he was disliked and lots of people at Apple thinks his worked sucked, including Ive.

There is a lot more to than there was with iOS 7.

Is there any way to fix this? My phone has auto updates on, and I stupidly didn’t do any research into how bad ios26 is. The photos show comparisons of my iPad and iPhone and you can see how blurry the apps look on the phone. It just looks broken. Like an old VHS tape.

Both devices have reduced transparency on and the iPhone has increased contrast which only helped slightly.

Its glaringly obvious.

Basically it looks like 26 has a "70s porn filter" thing going on.

EXACTLY! "..more dated and cheap"…. Perfectly sums it up.

I had to go and look at it since I haven’t used it since ios 26. I use the side button or control center to activate the camera.

You need to look up the definition of objective and subjective.

This thread is subjective and opinion based.
