Much as I'd love one, looking at secondhand prices, I think the 30" screens are still out of my reach anyway :(

Looking at the back of my Radeon 8500 (photo below) and comparing it with images of dual link DVI-I, am I right in thinking this does support dual link ?

Only on videocardz does it seem to make reference to it :-

If you scroll down on that videocardz it says max resolution 1600x1200. I think the top part of the page where it says dual link is incorrect. 30 inch is 2560x1600. If it is not plugged into a dual-link port it will run at 1280x800.

The 8500 does not support dual-link. Dual-link only appeared with the 9600 PC&Mac Edition or the 9650 in G5s as far as ATI cards are concerned.

Driving a 30in ACD via single-link only gives you a quarter of 2560×1600, in other words, 1280×800. Not worth it at all.

Thank you both for your replies.

In which case I wonder if it's even worth pursuing the 23" model as I won't be able to run it at its optimum resolution of 1920x1200 ?

I THOUGHT I had run a 23" Cinema off an 8500 at native res, but can't swear to it and am not in a position to do it now.

I know for sure that I've done it with a 9000...it's not a pleasant experience in OS X, but it's doable.
