And the S6 has a disaster of a battery life. It might be related.

So is the iPhone 6. It has a 1800 mAh battery or something similar. Pretty sure that the Moto X 2013 has better battery life with lesser specs and optimizations.

I'm just saying the S6 would have had so much better battery if they had gone with 1080p.

That argument could be said for a 720p display too. Sony has the best line of flagships imo. Small, medium, and latest tech junkie model/ large screen. 4K isn't worth jack on a phone but they did it. I think the Note 6 will be 4K. Anything beyond 1080p isn't that huge because 1080p content is not available for everything. 720p is more or less a common theme. You can get away with 720p and not lose out on content.

Yeah, but 1080p is more likely for Samsung because they like big numbers. It's kind of why they put 2k in there.

Retina in theory relates to what you ACTUALLY CAN SEE, tangible benefit for most people

While whatever idiotic number Samsung and LG puts on their phone * 1.2 (for pentile loss) has mostly impact on marketing, with benefits for most users with normal eyes and normal use being ZERO

And even for the minority of people with very good eyesight the benefits are not wam bam either; there but minimal.

Test of resolution of eyesight are done with printed material of infinite contrast in perfect lighting condition.
No Cell phone screen of any tech is close to that. So, any one trotting out those "studies" should just stop.

Considering the quite bad impact on battery and performance of over speccing the screen, the whole thing is even more idiotic; the point of smart phone is actually being able to use it, not watching a high spec black screen (dead battery) or having to enduring a low performing slide show (as the GPU/CPU) throttles.
There's no pentile Loss these days, do your home work.. if you.think there is no difference between a 1080p screen and a 2k screen you are so mistaken.
Let me.guess tho, when apple catches up with 2014 handsets and does a 2k screen, they "will do it right". Is that the phrase. ..

The phrase "a smartphone, several models" should be used again next year by Samsung for the Galaxy S7

I think in some places overseas it's more of a cultural thing. They don't see it as stealing because everyone is supposed to be working for the good of the society. This is especially true in communist societies (and possibly former).

It's an absurdity to apply those communist principles to a product that is then sold for profit in a free market - there is no consistency in that thinking.

Probably a false rumor because force touch and 3D touch are useless gimmicks. Force touch on 12" Macbook is so annoying compared to tap to click and double-tap to drag.

But that is what makes samsung different from other companies...at least they are usually the first to try new display or design ideas even if it compromises something else. It eventually leads to farther innovation or a better implementation in the future. I know larger resolutions sacrifices battery life but it gives companies incentives to improve battery life on that specific resolution over time.
