LOL, at the claims of copying, didn't know iPhone had a Retina Scanner, Quick Charge 3.0 and USB Type-C... Or these have to be desperately ignored I guess, until the iPhone gets them...in a few years. LMAO.

The only thing there worth having is the QuickCharge. How is a retinal scan any better (especially speed???) than a fingerprint scanner? Who cares about USB-C? It's a big, clanky port that does nothing the smaller lightning cable can't do.

Retina Scanner can be just as quick as finger print.

USB-C will be the global standard for most electronics going forward, so I'd say major win in terms of convenience.

Force Touch isn't exactly worth having seeing as its more like Androids long touch that we've had for years now. Samsung are just making the display aware of the pressure. Huawei already had this in their phone before the iPhone6S arrived to.

Iris/retina scanners are indeed fast.

But my iPhone is unlocked by the time I pull it out of my pocket. Thank you thumb and TouchID.

I'm not sure how you can get faster than that in practice. I repeat... it's unlocked BEFORE it exits my pocket :)

Also... I unlock my phone from a variety of locations (in my lap, laying flat on my desk, angled on the center console of my car, etc)... positions where the face of the phone isn't pointing at my own face.

How does an iris scanner handle that? Perhaps my phone is laying in the passenger seat of my car... with its face pointing at the ceiling.

To me... iris/retina scanners make more sense in laptops that point in one direction... rather than mobile devices that can sit in literally any orientation.

That actually describes one of Samsung's issues. They try to come up with own fresh ideas.
The problem is, unlike Apple, they don't think their ideas through to the end. That was the case with Air View, which was completely inconvenient to use. Same goes for the 6 edge too, which looks nice at a first glance, but you always have annoying reflections around the screens edges, unless you're in a really dark environment.

I see your point.

The S7 will probably have both finger print and retina scanner, along with Smart Lock which allows you to automate the phones lock depending on where you are, what is connected to the device and if the device is on you, so this will be a welcome addition, especially for Smart Lock.

But all the articles that say things like 'Features Apple Copied from Android' are okay, I see...

The only fact is, they all copy from one another. Not to cop a former wife-beater's lyrics, but imagine if these companies worked for collective good instead of acting like toddlers in a sandbox screaming "Mine mine mine!" Never mind patent wars and how these companies themselves never once buy or submit patents for the sheer sake of trolling (now look up the 2011 reform that only made "first to file" even more preferential to big companies as opposed to everyone having a fair shot...)

there's a fine line between imitation and copying. What Samsung does is just shameless copying.

It's one thing to use the same technology, another is to copy another product blindly. This document says it all.

No more Samsung products for me.

Please let me have your house, car, clothes etc!! You definitely don't want anything else that was copied. But in all seriousness I found it highly odd that someone would not purchase a product because they copied another one. Is there really enough indignation for that?

So what? So much useless blathering and teeth gnashing over what a corporation does. Does it hurt you? Was it insulting to a family member? I'll tell you what, if the market wasn't the way it was we would still be stuck in the stone age of technology. You think Apple would upgrade their products if there was no competition? Taking something and copying it, and improving on it is how the market works, and it goes back and forth. If there is a patent or legal issue then the courts will decide it and the loser will pay, that's the risk. That's not even getting into the fact that Apple copies as well, but again I say so what?

Wow people get worked up in the "who copied who" threads... Who cares! Better phones will be made for all!

Fanboyism clouds people's judgment. They don't see the big picture. They just see ios or adroid as perfect and everyone else are losers.

Competition makes better products.

Hmm Samsung used to innovate but now all they seem to want to do is copy Apple. Their last good phone line up was the S5/Note 4/Note edge. The S6 et al was when they stopped innovating and just started copying whatever Apple do.

Hardcore fansites are rarely a good source for legal commentary.

That document was not about copying blindly. It was an example of what many / all companies do, which is to compare what they've done with what someone else has done, and pick out where improvements can be made.

It even specifically stated that Samsung's UI should NOT copy Apple's too closely.

In the end, very few of the suggestions made in the document ever got used, and those that did were hardly earth-shattering items. E.g. "We should also use a big hangup button."

Every company compares its products to others. For instance, Apple began work on the iPad mini after an Apple Vice President used and liked a smaller Samsung tablet (despite what Jobs had said about needing sandpapered fingertips). That fact was also revealed in the trial.

I'm actually interested in the options that will come with pressure sensitive display on a Android platform since it's more open.

Peek to infect your phone with malware, poke to spread to your friends!

......Like with the Retina Display: Apple made a high res display, its competitors made even higher resolutions.
Are you referring to the original retina display Of 640p as high resolution. . Bless.....

I suppose you've got to take what ever big A gives you and lump it eh...

That's the only thing that would make them a worth while company to me again.

A lot of people would choose Samsung if they had better customer service too. Apple's dominance as a tech giant stems from their quality care, but Samsung just wants to maximize profits and forget all else. At least with paying extra, Apple gives customers better service. They've helped me more times than not.

No, it can't. To use the scanner, you have to hold the entire phone at a certain spot. It just doesn't work well. Finger Print scanner works a lot better.
