But you HAVE to get a data plan with the Tab if you buy it for $350. Multiply 24 times the monthly cost of the plan. Please include all the taxes and fees.

Seven months of data are "free" due to the much lower price. I understand that its a contract, but if you were planning on using data on your 3G device (Tab or iPad) then what's the harm in having a contract which gives you a sizable discount?

I've played with the Samsung Galaxy Tab and must admit that it felt good in the hand and I could definitely see it in my personal arsenal.

However, as is the case with my phone preference the Tab would purely be supplemental to the iPad.

In other words iOS is my FIRST choice. If I could afford all manner of toys then yes I'd have the Tab too. To say that Android doesn't compete or isn't a viable alternative is a fallacy, Android has lots of things that peak my interest. It's just that if I have to choose one it's got to be iOS.

As another poster said, I too would pay for native flash content.

350 is not a real price since you have to have a contract which adds to the cost, if you were to buy the tab w/o plan its 500.

$599

Not a thing, point was on price comparison, especially for those of us that don't want a data plan.

I am not sure who you're referring to, but I said LACK of flash is a feature I would pay for. It forces the web masters to design flash free sites, or risk losing millions of visitors.

Now let's see a tablet based on WinMo7 or a 4:3 7 inch ver 2.3 Android tablet that doesn't try to cram in stupid "features" just so they can say "See, we added what we think the iPad is missing. Please buy me..."

The least expensive Tab without a data plan is a $100 MORE expensive than the least expensive iPad. Yes the Tab includes 3G crap and the iPad don't, but why pay extra for a "feature" that I will NEVER use.

Besides the cameras for AR and video calls, and the extra memory...

...the Tab also has GPS, which the non-3G iPad is missing.

(Although frankly, I think Samsung's GPS implementation is not as good as what HTC does. Which reminds me, I'd love to see HTC do a tablet. They're innovators in the mobile UI and social integration arena.)

@ Mr. Willie

My bad, I thought you were saying you would like to have flash.

I understand the whole flash affects performance issue, however, I simply miss having the content I want at times.

Cameras mean I can't take it to most job sites.

I have two GPS units already, and they do a better job than a tablet does. (Again, why pay for a third if I won't use it).

So what is left is more ram and not just a smaller screen, but a smaller WIDESCREEN.

Yes, let's see HTC do a tablet. But a Win Mobile 7 tablet. With a 4:3 screen. And leave off the junk me too "features". (Apples missing feature is their total control of the USB functionality of the dock connector. Let people make USB devices such as webcams work on the device).

Good! Now I know I'll have at least one potential buyer for my original iPad when Apple adds cameras and GPS in v2.

(Although, GPS is quite handy for other reasons than just raw navigation. Localized weather and searches are nice on vacation as well.)

You brought up a memory. In the early days of PDAs, almost every one included a Compact Flash slot that was on top of the gizmo. This meant that you could choose from various addon devices such as tiny hard drives, cameras and even GSM cards to add phone capability!

I personally had a CDPD card for data access, and was happily surfing the web over the air back around 2000. The cost was enormous though. $30 a month would've been heaven back then.

Hey, I have some compact flash cards I'll sell you. Wired Ethernet, wifi, BT, and a serial card. I still have all the dongles and most driver disks. I also have a thumb keyboard for an Axim, and one for another make.

I remember the high tech days, when I carried around a pager that received text messages. Always wore it where everyone could see it.

A friend of mine did have a Galaxy Tab, but its **** compared to a iPad. You really feel that Android 2.2 isn't build for tablets.
I'll also doubt that it is 350$ cause here in Europe, they still charge around 600 euro's.

I do agree with 2.2 not being very good on a Tablet, but the $350 price is real. Just go to T-Mobile's site.

Yeah just checked, but you will have to sign a 2 year contract.

I understand that lots of people are adverse to contracts, but if you plan on having data on your 3G device anyway (and for the most part, that's why you pay extra for a 3G device), why wouldn't you just sign a contract and get the fat discount.

Because a contract ties u into a situation that might turn ugly a few months down the road, like a job loss, or unexpected bills. Contracts suck. I already have a phone contract, cable and Internet contract, car note, house note, insurance bill, etc. A contract is stupid now that Apple and AT&T have shown us that it's possible to do away with them. Pre paid data for tablets is the way to go.
