I love it how you further prove my point (in your second and third line) from my previous post about discouraging a musician to pursue his/her craft by refusing to pay for their work.

I buy the majority of my music. But if I happen to borrow a CD from a friend, I sometimes rip it.

Great artists will produce great music.

I'm a musician myself, and if I was any good at it, I'd be doing it for a living.

If someone were to pirate my music, I would accept that as part of the package deal.

I would feel the same way if I were a software developer.

I've been buying most of my music from iTunes these days, but the sad thing is that the artist will see very little of that.

Software developers get a 70% cut. It hurts them more if I don't pay for their stuff.

I'm not trying to justify anything. Theft is theft, I get that.

I'm just being honest.

I buy the majority of my games. But if I happen to borrow a PC game from a friend, I sometimes rip it.

I've been buying most of my games from Steam these days, the good thing is that the Developer will see quite a bit of that.

Musicians however get a measly 15% cut. It hurts them if I don't pay for their stuff. But really who cares? they weren't making much to begin with! they can go and starve for all I care!

That's why I don't buy music from the RIAA at all. I don't pirate it either.

The RIAA is borderline criminal in the ways they treat musicians. Pressuring them into contracts that offer them little to nothing just to be in an industry they all controll almost from end to end.

I support any independent label and I go to concerts of artists that are on RIAA labels. This way, the artists I like get my money. Also, I feel that if we all boycotted the RIAA it'd push artist away from the RIAA and to a point where we could all function without the RIAA.

I just do my part. :D

Since I realize music is pretty much off-topic... if you're interested in resources for boycotting the RIAA, PM me.

But guys, we're all on the internet. We know piracy exists and many industries have to deal with it. As much as we know it's wrong, the internet provides a false sense of security to people and they do it anyway and make justifications. It's going to happen. No matter how good the DRM, it will be cracked. Heck, no matter how well Apple tries to close holes in their iOS, someone cracks it.
