Well arguably Samsung may suck less than Apple this year, my Galaxy Watch Pro 5 easily lasts 3 days, close to 4 days, and with low power mode I'm sure it would last a week. Still not Garmin times, but definitely getting there.
You'd have to argue longer than 3 days and still lose the argument 😡 I won't bother disappointing you, in telling you why 😊

Also, while some divers might get the watch, it can’t replace a dive computer until it can connect to an O2 tank and tell you how much air you have left.
As a diver the Ultra would make a nice backup for my backup. I don’t see a smart watch ever taking the place of a dedicated Dive computer. On a side note my current backup dive computer is not air integrated either, I run a standard mechanical pressure gauge on my tanks as a backup.

Garmin has Connect & a whole list of compatible training products w/ ANT+ that works seamlessly with their products, like Foot-pods, pedals for cycling & stuff for swimming. Plus, Garmin has multiple types work out plans for running, cycling(including training for a Gran Fondo 75mi, mtb rides & general riders who just want to improve). It works pretty well when I tried it.

Garmin also includes the HRM-Run chest strap in many models which can make recommendations in your running style.

One thing I do like about my AndroidWear watches is that they last about a week or so. Even if I cannot respond to my messages.

I have 2 Apple watches as well. But, even if I am not able to respond to messages, I like the round faces and long battery life. I know this is about Garmin, but it's also about battery life. I also like BIG watches on my wrist. :)

The first iPhone couldn't shoot video and it's now the best at shooting video. Garmin needs to realize that the Apple Watch Ultra is the Apple Watch Ultra Series 1............

Okay, nice fire back.

But Apple will be back next year slowly advancing to have every single feature Garmin has and then adding to the list.
Garmin needs to stop resting on its laurels and advance their product or they'll end up like Fitbit.

I don't know, if I'm hanging off the side of a mountain - the amount of days my watch will hold a charge seems to be more important than how bright the screen gets or how many complications I can fit on the screen at one time.
The most important thing is that when the rescuers find you several months later after the ice has thawed that they notice that you had a really pretty watchband.

For someone who had to pay the incident apple care fee when my watch went bonkers after a 1M (3') water walk with grandkids, I'll pass on the Ultra. Nice but eh, just realized there was (or now?) a compass app on my 6, so I'm good.

Yup, I'm wearing the Watch Pro 5 now and wish and still have 59% left after 30hrs wearing, with AOD enable. That's pretty much the lifespan of the AW Ultra. I do have the AW Ultra on pre order, but I was hoping for at least 48hrs.

Garmin is one of the few companies that doesn't engage in financial engineering (taking on debt to buy back stock). In other words, they survive on true engineering innovation which is an incredible feat in this day and age.

That said, I don't think this type of "your move" chess marketing ends well for anybody.

A lot of people are bad mouthing the Garmin without having tried one recently. They've improved their products and constantly improving over the last few years. Functionally, the AW Ultra competes with the Garmin Epix 2 Sapphire, but the latter is $200 more expensive. I ordered the AW Ultra as soon as it was available to be in the Apple ecosystem. My progression has been AW3 --> Citizen Satellite Wave --> AW7 --> Garmin Fenix 6X Sapphire --> AW Ultra. The best I could get out of the AW7 was 26 hours and I'm hoping to get 48 hours out of the AW Ultra. If not, I give it away to my kids and go to the Garmin Epix 2 that will easily get 4 days with the always on AMOLED 410x410 display.

the ultra is nowhere close to what a Garmin watch can offer in terms of activity function. Garmins main competitor is Coros as Sunto has not been able to surpass them but Coros surely has.

If Garmin could bring wireless service to it, would be great. Only thing they offer is some Verizon (think it’s them) w text capability only.

There is no way in heck, I would give up my Fenix for an. Apple Watch. If you feel like you would, you probably don’t fit the demographic of us Garmin users. That simple.

Bit of a self-own to claim you measure battery life in months when you actually measure it in hours 😅

I remember Garmin’s gps devices for cars, it was nice, but it’s gone now, soon the whole company may go the way of Blackberry.

I would still rate a Garmin Fenix 7 series above an Apple Watch Ultra for autonomy alone. All the Apple specific compatibilities are great, but 60 hours of battery life with a software update is still weak. A non-solar Fenix 7S can do 11 days on a charge and the solar can do 37 days. I'm sure Apple will improve that number as the new model matures.

Should have included, 'we can measure power meters and other athlete tools because we support Ant+'.

As far as use as a dive watch, my one misgiving is no AI integration... once you get used to it it's hard to go back, getting real-time info that encourages you to relax and stop breathing so hard lol.

Having a watch that goes 1+ week is nice, but going for over w/ heavy use is fine.

It would be awesome if the next Apple Watch had solar charging to extend the battery life like the Garmin.

I'd also be happy with a 2x heavier watch if the battery lasted longer...

The most important thing is that when the rescuers find you several months later after the ice has thawed that they notice that you had a really pretty watchband.

That's why you'd carry a Garmin InReach with you. We have a couple of people die hiking the White Mountains every year. Of course some of them can get a cellular signal and call for help but some can't.

Garmin will not end like fitbit as garmin is a way more diverse company. Garmin still has running & cycling specific equipment that Fitibit does not, like footpods, cycling computers, power meter pedals, & radar lights(Varia). Plus, there is the Garmin InReach line of devices that many ultra endurance backpackers, bikepackers & expedition folks still use.
