Which leads one to believe that these other players are simply unable to produce something on the level of the iPhone. Now THAT is really saying something.

Your a hoot! Full of entertainment as you come up with all the variants of "Apple is great, everyone else sucks" there are!

Every time I read articles about mobile sales, I think of this video:

Poor Steve Ballmer.... :(:(:(:(

Microsoft's mobile strategy:

It's just fact. There is no single smartphone model that is more popular than the iPhone. That's saying quite a bit.

Which leads one to believe that these other players are simply unable to produce something on the level of the iPhone. Now THAT is really saying something.
That's only because they only sell a single phone and (despite the impressiveness of your cherry picked statistic) it has no bearing on the world marketshare.

The other players have specific markets to sell their handsets to: Businesses, power users, developing world, low budget, fashion, the disabled, ruggedised phones..... In those markets, the one size fits all approach wouldn't work and for other manufacturers to dump their traditional model of design and sales would be economic suicide.

Under some strange tendancy, you even want to remove Nokia from the chart just because they don't fit your ideal. Crazy stuff.

I'll end with this:
WELL DONE APPLE! YOU ARE NUMBER ONE IN THE LTD, CHERRY PICKED STATISTIC OF THE DAY!:apple:

Your wrong, blackberry curve outsold the iphone last year...

I'm curious how the negative publicity about Apple's controversial removal of apps will effect marketshare over the coming months. I have a feeling this could possibly bite Apple in the back.

You mean in terms of parents and educational institutions perceiving the upcoming iPad as a "clean" product without any smut and viruses? Is that what you meant? :)

It won't. Because the consumer won't really care.

Just like they didn't care with Apple's previous "negative" moves with the App Store, i.e., Google Voice, etc. The whole is greater than the parts.

It'll go unnoticed. The beauty and the usability of the device itself will, as usual, trump the removal of a few apps, especially if they're the questionable-content kind.

Blackberry cannot even make a decent browser. There is NO way they could overtake Android.

Android ROCKS!!!

BB doesn't need to overtake Android...BB already IS ahead of Android (of course simply because Android is a few months old).

I don't you read my post...I said that BB, iPhone, and Android will all EQUALLY EACH have about 25% of the smartphone market. That means the remaining 25% will have to be shared by Microsoft and others.

And yes, BB has a horrible browser in comparison to the iPhone and Android. But like I said, expect BB to come out with a similar-iPhone-featured device later this year...because if BB doesn't, too many smartphone manufacturers will be out there with great big touch screens with nice browsers.

And let's also remember about how BB targets business users while the Android and iPhone do not.

Well, the first 30 seconds Steve is 100% correct...and thankfully Apple lowered the price of the iPhone a tad.

Now, hindsight is 20/20 and I believe this video is now 3+ years old. The Zune never really made a dent anywhere.

But philosphically, this video you posted is the traditional Apple vs. PC Land argument: Apple creates it's own proprietary products where 100% of everything is controlled by Apple (hardware, software, distribution, sales, marketing, etc)...vs...PC Land where everything is open to licensing, distribution, OEM, modifications, bundling, etc. In this regard, there is no right or wrong...they're just different approaches to selling a product.

yeah sure he meant we all glad to have a Corporations decide when the products we own are "clean"... they always know what is best for us "kids"

If Apple's initiative to remove porn apps impatcs someone that much, then they've got major issues.

In terms of the principle/philosophy behind Apple's decision, you won't see me shedding a tear this time, and I doubt the average user will even notice, much less care.

Porn is still available in vast quantities via mobile browsers. I'm not even sure what a "porn app" would do anyway, beyond having as much worth as a fart app. And if it's that "useless" on top of it being questionable content then I'm all for Apple continuing in this vein.

What does a facebook app, or a cnn app, or a usa today app, or myspace etc. etc... do that a browser cant do?

Why have apps for those?

specialized functions, optimized for the device and its capabilities. Not every webiste is going to be as mobile-friendly as a dedicated app.

I completely agree. Plenty of sites have mobile versions but the native apps can be far better and easier to use.

All good but for quick updates or posting content, you can't beat a well integrated app.

OFF TOPIC: It's odd using MacRumors WiForums to post on a desktop ;)

WOW there were 5,000 porn Apps on the app store?... Apple sure dropped the ball on that verification process huh?... glad we all found a good name to call them to make them sound as EVIL as they are! and make people who protest the Act of removing them with no process or transparency sound like they have "major issues" I mean they are ALL PORN apps!

dame bikini designers and their PORN APP!!!

but hey we out of topic... we should be happy about share growth of our newly "clean" Phones :)

exactly!... and it goes past social networks - Apps like LogMeIn (Amazed how well it runs) and Bank Apps - just work better with extra features and security

Actually, Apple claimed SECOND place.

With some notable exceptions, most of Nokia's garbageware doesn't count.

Yep, only a hypocritical, fact-twisting fanboy would say that. You never disappoint to drink the Kool-Aid and show your purple (or whatever flavour you drink) mouth. Nice going. You must be proud.
