Most that voted likely are beyond the 14 day return and therefore couldn’t return it if they wanted too.
I think only a tiny percentage would downgrade even if apple gave a two month window to return it. Judging from comments almost all max owners are satisfied.

I played with XR for good 20 minutes. First thing I noticed was the sizable bezel which I absolutely wasn’t happy about, but was forgivable. Lack of 3D Touch would be the hardest thing to overcome, but I’ll be returning my Max for the XR since the features on the Max don’t justify the extra $450 +tax from 128 GB XR.

At the Apple store today to see the XR. I was SHOCKED at how slow it seemed. I had expected the UI to be as fast as the Max.

All the speed test I’ve seen does not indicate that is the case and having used them both side by side I call BS!

Yeah we are seeing several do so and there is a poll and while the vast majority said they would keep it, I think more than you think may save that money if they could. But it’s really a moot point. The poll is at 20 precent which is higher than I thought.

Wondering if those who own an XS/Max are considering or already have returned it for the XR.

OP, expand on your post:

Perhaps you could provide more feedback on why an XS owner would consider the XR in the first place? For example, perhaps ‘buyers remorse’, or the XS owner realizes the XR is the better value because it shares similar features, maybe they like the color options with the XR, etc.

As a Max owner, there is no way I could consider the XR, strictly because of the OLED experience. I realize that’s not everybody’s consideration, but I simply have graduated from Apples LCD displays.

I was hoping those who actually own an XS/Max could provide those reasons. & predictably, they've pointed out that they see better value for money in the XR purchase, for their own use cases.

I so love the color options with XR! Why should both my phone and my job be boring!!
However, I'm keeping Xs as I got small hands and cannot handle anything bigger or heavier.

I use my iPad mini 4 for watching videos on the go and I don't care about the lower resolution in XR.
If only, it were smaller/lighter - I would switch in a heartbeat.

Nope! I love the oled display, bigger screen size, higher resolution and the more premium feel. I also use portrait mode on my dog more so than on myself so was disappointed to learn that on the XR, it only works on people.

This sort of applies to me. I was an X owner and went to the Apple Store yesterday because I was legit curious about the XR and was sort of looking for a reason to upgrade camera, battery, and screen size. I tried the XR and XS Max at length. I think the XR is great, but the small marginal difference in size between the XR and the XS Max yielded so many improvements - screen size, quality, resolution, and smaller bezels, dual cameras, 3D Touch which I use a lot - that I went with the XS Max. Much to my surprise and the chagrin of my wallet!

The Max is only a very little bit wider than the XR, and because it's also thinner, in the hand it feels similar to me. Neither are one handed devices for me, so, if I figured if I was going to get a bigger phone, I'd go for the one that gave me more in places where I could tell the difference.

BTW re the screen on the XR - on an all black screen (took photo while covering lens) - you could see a faint brightness whereas with the X/XS/Max you could not. Yes, even in the light of the store. And, tilting to the sides resulted in an obvious bluish glow. This said, the screen alone was not the thing that pushed me to the Max, though I do appreciate the improvement the Max offers in that regard.

I’ve been using an Xr since Friday, and I’ll be returning the Xr and keeping the Max: it’s all about that big screen. The Xr feels and looks tiny in my hand by comparison.
I think it has to do with the bezels? Like it seems backwards that apple would make the XR screen big but they add large bezels

I did my research up front, knew what was coming, picked my phone and got it. I have no regrets because there were no surprises. The reasons I had for picking my phone are as valid today as they were a month back. They're all great phones and I'm pleased with what I have.

I think it wasn’t possible for them to get the bezels that thin because of the lcd display.

Exactly Apple laid out all the options for us at the keynote in September. It was as simple as choosing the phone you liked and then buying accordingly.

I benchmarked my XS and my XR and they benched almost identically. That’s complete BS.

Point taken and I have as well seen the Aztec runs on screen benchmark results. I will admit that I was comparing a demo XR at the Apple store to my own XS Max.

My first impression was that seemed like the animations for opening and closing were slower, and I was not the only person there who thought so.

My XR should be here Tuesday so I can check it all out at home.

Another thing we took away from our Apple store visit was that the XR phones were isolated on their own table and could not be directly compared to other models. In fact one stranger had asked to have an XR removed so they could compare, but told by staff it wasn't possible as they are "tethered to the table". I imagine this may have affected my immediate subjective opinion as well.

This is a dead on description.

And why it is silly to ask Xs Max owners if they regret over the Xr.

Well count me as someone considering the move from a Max to XR. I’ve been looking at both screens and it’s very hard to tell the difference.

To me the pros cons are...
Larger bezel (con), single camera (con), much better battery life.
I travel a lot so the battery life is very important. Just not sure if it outweighs the cons. I think it just might.
