Whatever happened about the skin and flash problem, did Gelaskins address it?

Check out the other thread...

Here's the official statement. GelaSkins, YOU ROCK!!!

So, again, thanks for all the feedback folks - it's this kind of stuff that really helps us move forward and make the best product out there! Regarding the sensors; we have made cutouts for them and what likely happened is that they accidentally peeled up with your skin when you removed it from the backer.

Remove the skin and look closely; I'm sure you'll find the two little pieces I'm talking about. There's one above the speaker hole, and one to the right of it - you can pop them out with your fingers I suspect.

About the flash issue; We've got a solution and are just waiting on another small detail to fall into place, so we should have something to talk about in a week or so. When we do make the change, any of you folks that are experiencing the issue and would like to exchange it, we'll happily replace the skin for you free of charge.

Oh and since I've got your time, I'll plug our current contest! we're giving away an iPhone 4 to one lucky follower once we reach 7500 Twitter followers. Just follow us and RT to enter.

Cheers,
Brian

I must be lucky. Only 1 incident of it "bubbling" with the bumper on

So do you guys recommend to put the front covers on top of a screen protector or don't use a screen protector at all?

I'm tempted to get one. But I'm going to wait until they resolve the flash issue. I wonder if I can squeeze in the Griffin reveal case in there, too? I really want this case but I'm going to see if I can find it in-store first, before ordering it online. This is awesome!

roland.g, Do you happen to have the third one as an iPhone wallpaper? I love it!

The designer tool on gelaskin site makes the wallpaper in the preview. Problem is that I don't think you actually get that wallpaper unless it's already in their wallpaper gallery.

I'll post the black leather and blue space apple ones. As far as a wallpaper, anytime you use a custom, they make your wallpaper from the same file you upload for the skin. For several I had the wallpaper made to fit with the top and bottom face skin. For the black rose on white, I didn't want that effect, so I left the top and bottom blank and shrunk the wallpaper to the screen. You can see it in my post.

The wallpapers I will post are actually 1024x1024 wallpapers from my iPad. You can simply sync those onto your iPhone and then scale and set them as you like. Any wallpaper you choose, graphic, picture whatever can be zoomed and positioned before you set it.

BTW, I just received my skins today and will take photos of them and post them, along with shots of the one I put on first. Somewhat sucky to hear there are flash issues. I may try to hole punch it or see what Gelaskins solution ends up being.

This would have been good too. :D

Hmm...I'm definitely going to buy one of these

Anyone remember a post last week someone had the back of the iphone 4 with a leica camera skin? need to find something similar for gelaskins it look really great

That's the point. You use the image he posted and upload it to their custom skin maker. Then everyone can have it.

I was so on board until I saw this!

Hey OP, since you obviously created your account to promote this site, throw us a free shipping code, would ya? :D

Haha, I highly doubt he created it just to promote the site. Gelaskins are fairly well known and have been posted throughout the forum for awhile now. They really don't need to be promoted that much. I think I might try putting my graphic design skills to the test and make my own skin to put inside my bumper. I'm thinking a deep lime green with a black Apple logo. Perhaps with some light falloff to the edges, and a slight gloss on the logo. Either that or use some of my photography in a creative way. Hmmm...so many possibilities!

It would be neat if they made an option where it provided a clear, yet protective window over just the Apple logo, but that would require some rather precise alignment. Would be nice to keep the reflective one though.

In my opinion, GelaSkins also needs to work on the size of the back skin. It is too small by a small amount, and when you place an Apple bumper on the phone it will bubble the sides of the skin.

I tried reapplying the skin many times to correct problem however it still happens.

Shame really.

Funny no lifted edges here.

Try not to stretch the skin too much. You want to position the skin so that the lip of the bumper contacts only the glass.

Look at this guys application...

... notice how you can see a sliver of black between the Bumper Lip and the Skin.

If the edge does lift up, press your thumb behind the lifted edge and pull away from the edge.

do all the gelaskins have that grid texture to them? And what about the material itself, would it stick to TPU cases or form fitting hard cases or anything?

So I put on 1 of my 4 skins yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by how good it looks. I put the 2 face pieces on and used the lock screen wallpaper but I don't know that I will keep them on, might just go with sides and back so I can change my wallpaper when I want to. Only 1 of the other 3 skins would I actually use the front pieces, the other 2 I designed not to.

Here it is.

EDIT: I did some before and after flash tests and found that it does artifact. Gelaskins sent out an email today informing that all skins from now on will be corrected and that they are putting a recall form in place for those of us who already received skins with the older flash cut out. I thought about using a hole punch to enlarge the flash hole, however it was far too large and would not have looked good, so I didn't change it. I'll just wait for them to make it right.

BTW, some people may not realize it, like in the case of the white iPhone, but they do come with a home button decal too. I think some people think that is just the cutout in the bottom face piece. And that decal has a very thin ring around it separating it from the bottom face piece. You have to put the face piece on, then peel that ring off and you will be left with the home button piece to use if you want.
