I’m trying to see what’s better if anyone can chime in:

Apple is offering $200 trade in (iPhone 11) and then if you monthly installment with att I get bill credit for $800

Att offers flat out $830 bill credit with trade in only and installment for 36 months. Plus $70 for activation on two phones.

So I think Apple is better deal?
Where are you seeing with apple you can get the trade in of $200 and the monthly installment bill credit?

I've mostly got my phone from the apple store. At Verizon I feel that somehow I am being screwed. Any deal has a catch, instead of paying a lesser amount, they claim I am getting a deal. With Apple, at least if something goes wrong I can get help. Like I had a bad sim card for 5G, Verizon said they would have to order one, Apple put it in, connected to to Verizon in a short time. The Verizon stores here seem to have less people to help with the phone sales, but I do like their coverage on the 5G network.

Don’t get 200 trade in and 800 in credits.

Verizon deals are not deals at all. I'll pass and if more did then we would start seeing real deals. We all have the power.

"To get all credits, device must remain on agreement for entire term and you must keep eligible service on device for entire installment term"

So basically if you upgrade in a year you use lose future credits, doesn't seem worth it.

Not a criticism, just a comment from outside the US.

Your carrier shenanigans, hocus pocus, mathematical complexities and cost structures rival your HMO medical insurance red tape and bafflegarb

However, with regard to phones, you pay far less than we do in Europe.

Could lose money in this situation. For instance, if traded in ip14 pro that’s worth $570 with Apple. Would only get $333 back in credits after 1 year. Losing $237 and still owing balance on device.
‘Deal’ not designed for trading in after 1 year but that how it goes bad. For us.

Just not worth it to do anything but go with Apple direct. Too much fine print, as someone above said, they've done the math and they know they win.

Apple still has their 0% financing (nice to see) for 24 months, for those that want it (but you have to choose a carrier - no unlocked at this point, at least in the U.S.).
That's what confused me. I have Mint Mobile right now as my carrier on my iPhone 13 Pro. I pre-ordered a 15 Pro Max and selected the 0% financing using the Apple Card. But it made me select a carrier. I picked T-Mobile, with the understanding in their "fine print" that they don't actually make you activate the phone with them, just because you selected them? But I guess what I get is an iPhone locked to T-Mobile, nonetheless? I wanted an unlocked one. So do I need to cancel this order and redo it?

We pay for it in the high plan costs. It's true that we have less population density so slightly higher Capex cost to cover the country but....you guys have MUCH lower bills.

In the US- you either want to go high end carrier plan if you upgrade your device a lot. If you don't....better to be on these cheap $25 a month plans for single line.

Told my gf to replace the battery on her 12 and use it a few more years. T-Mobile's upgrade deals involve moving to more expensive plans and very little trade in value. Garbage offer from what used to be a good company.

No need to rush and jump in on these early offers. Black Friday/holidays is around the corner; You'll see better deals then. And if iPhone 15 sales disappoint, you'll see more attractive carrier deals down the road (early next year).

Waiting to see what Walmart offers for Black Friday, as well as Costco.

Although I've not yet done this... But... Start new service with a new number on T-Mobile. You'd have to do this otherwise you'd effectively be porting your number over to T-Mobile - not what your looking to do. Then, cancel service with T-Mobile. Now, you're left with a device that's unlocked AND on ACMI. Call Mint and do an equipment change. You should be good.

Europeans pay more largely because of the high VAT. Pre-tax (excluding your VAT, our potential state and/or local sales taxes), iPhone prices can be pretty similar.

Using the UK as an example, the pre-VAT starting price of the 15 Pro is around £832 which at the current exchange rate is around $1,032 USD. That's only $33 higher than the $999 pre-sales tax starting price of the same phone in the U.S.

This is my understanding for Verizon as well. I would love to find out that the article is correct and that I could get $1000, but I don’t think it is accurate.
I only know VZW gives instant credit based on the device and then the rest as installment credits. Does AT&T give any instant, or is it all installment credits since you get more?

FYI, on Verizon you need to be on one of their new unlimited plans to get the trade in credit. I'm on their older Play More plan which has more features than the newer ones. Hard pass for me

Yep, their new plans are terrible. I'm on the older Play more/Do more which still includes all the freebies like Apple/Google games, Hulu, ESPN, Disney+, etc. I think I'm pretty much done with the 2-3 year piecemeal credits anyway, I purchased my last 2 phones outright.

In my case, Apple trade in is $250 for an iPhone 11 Pro. Verizon is $800 = $235 immediate credit and then the remaining $565 applied over the 36 months. So basically $15.69 additional credit per month. So even if I left Verizon after 1 month, I will have matched the Apple trade-in value. Each additional month that I stay with Verizon is just adding to the benefit. (Of course, in reality it can take up to 2 months for Verizon to start applying the monthly credits - so leaving Verizon after 1 month may not actually work out great).

Yeah... that could work. Although can I cancel service w/T-Mobile without getting charged some kind of fee?
I could see there being a catch like that.

Well they are unlocked, but you have to activate it on one of those carriers. There is technically nothing stopping you from activating it on a friend’s or family’s plan and pulling it out. Confirmed this with an Apple rep.

According to the Apple website, the following plans work for the full Verizon deal: “On an Unlimited Ultimate, Unlimited Plus, One Unlimited, 5G Get More, 5G Do More, or 5G Play More plan.” So, based on that, it appears we can stay on the Play More / Do More plans.
