If you purchase a Verizon 5s ... and insert your existing SIM card from 5 (AT&T): is activation required?

This is strange:

Myrna Wright: I'm not seeing any upgrade fee here on the pending charges, the upgrade was done 09/23, right?
Me: yes
Myrna Wright: I'm pretty sure the upgrade fees are waived already, it should be showing those fees here but on our system, the upgrade fees are removed already.
Me: well thats great.
Myrna Wright: Yes, this is great!
Me: they wouldnt just magically appear one day
Myrna Wright: No of course not, there is an adjustment made here for two $36 upgrade fee.
Me: Oh so it's already been adjusted?
Myrna Wright: Meaning the upgrade fee was removed before it shows on the next bill, you will see 2 $36 credit instead.
Myrna Wright: Yes, that is correct.

Do you need to wait for the fee to be posted to the bill before asking to receive credit for it? Or, are you guys just doing it's even posted to the bill?

Same thing with mine, when I went to the Apple Store to buy my phone in summary it said a $36 upgrade fee would be charged like always so I did online chat to get it waived. The rep was extremely friendly and said that it had already been waived and that the credit will show on the next billing cycle ... That's weird, I didn't even contact them before that to get it waived, I'm still not sure if it's an error or if it's going to show up next month but if it does I'll probably just contact them and tell them it was supposed to be waived.

Do you have a FAN account?

I have a fan account and it never gets automatically taken off. when i have called they have never said no.

I have a FAN account too and it's never been automatically waived before, but I think each company/foundation has different agreements with AT&T in regards to their specific discounts and fee waivers.

Just wondering, is the charge something you'd see before your bill gets posted?

I got my att activation waived, just called att right after I got phone turned on. The lady was real sweet, I said I want to get my activation fee dropped, then she said why? I said my friends have gotten theirs dropped and im jealous, she said awwwwwh, dont be jealous! lets see what I can do. She said activation charge hasnt showed up yet, so "kate" put in my notes to drop my activation charge when it comes through. However she said, its going to show up on next bill, and then just call and tell the next rep to look at my notes she left and they will remove the charge then.
Fair enough for me!.

iphone 200 bucks, 2 lightning/usb cords for 20 bucks (friend got att discount) my 25% fan code for service and activation fee dropped. woooh. Good day! and the lifeproof case is amazing, love it. though had to use baby powder/air duster to get it perfect, no dots or anything on screen.

Just talked to a friend of mine who works at AT&T and he said that as of March 1st AT&T changed its policy and waving the activation fee. It now says to never wave the activation fee.

I'm sure someone at AT&T can wave it, but it sounds like you're really going to have to try to get it waved.

my conversation was approx 3 minutes, there was "no" involved anywhere lol. Super friendly customer service, I hit 611, 1 , 4 , 4 and then that person who pops up is who i asked to have my fee waived and gladly did it for me.

Dang, AT&T is playing hard ball with me. I tried through the 1-800 number and email, shot down both times. The rep on the phone said to call when the upgrade fee hits my account and they'll see what can be done. They've waived it it the past. I'll give it another shot.

AT&T OFFERED to waive my upgrade fee, because it took OVER two hours to activate my 5s.

What I said to myself, tbh, is "Damn straight, if I was going to pay them that $36 I'd expect my activation to be quick and completely painless".

I should add, the Lady on the phone was very courteous. About 8/10 times I call AT&T for whatever reason, I get a Rep I genuinely like, that is actually very helpful. The other 2/10 times, I usually just hang up and call again and get a customer service rep that isn't completely inept.

Just used their online chat to get mine waived. They said they checked if my FAN account includes a waiver and it did, it's just a shame that that waiver doesn't get applied automatically.

I have 5 lines on my family plan (4 iPhones). Last year they removed the upgrade fee for every iPhone in a second, no problem. This year the two people on Live Chat say NO way and just keep telling me about the upgrade discount that I received and how I still got a great deal even with the upgrade fees.

Put me in the boat with getting a $25 credit instead of getting the fees waived.:(

Just got my upgrade fee waved, or rather a one-time courtesy adjustment that some how lowered my bill an additional $6 from usual. I used the online chat. Last year I tried by calling them and only got 50% of the fee credited. Had to listen how the fee helps them maintain "the fastest LTE in the nation", but I was polite and got the courtesy adjustment.

Good luck if you're trying this too.

Got it waived via chat. Said my FAN acct gets the activation fees waived BUT this is an upgrade and not covered in the contract. I said I've never paid the $36 on an upgrade before. They said they had given me an upgrade waiver in 2012 already. After a few moments, they offered to waive it this time only. Asked for a confirmation text for my records.

Got my few waived on first attempt. I was nice and honest with them. Just played dumb a little about my bill. Threw in some smiley faces...bishes love smiley faces.

So I got a fee waived and a rose!
