I have a FAN account that doesn't cover the upgrade fee. I got on live chat and asked if this fee could be waved. They said even though it wasn't covered they would go ahead and credit me since I had been a customer since 7/2000 in good standing. $36 is $36, I'll take it!

I upgraded two phones. Got on the chat and asked them to waive both fees and it was no problem.

AT&T Activation Fees waived

I was successful getting the activation fee waived although the chat representative called it a good customer credit instead. The activiation fee was $36.00 but I ended up getting a $63.00 credit for being a long standing good customer! :):)

Figured AT&T would do this without much trouble with all the T-Mobile stuff going on. Yay for competition!

LOL, I would think all you have to do is say "T-Mobile" and you would get whatever you ask for at this point. AT&T must be losing a butt-load of customers. They lost me :D

LOL :D
I'm going to try it next week and see what happens. I'm still with them, but don't have an issue switching to T-Mobile if I have to.

iPhone 5S (multiband;);)) FTW

Just got the fee waived for iphone 6

Wow - it was hard to get through those spam filters on the macrumors.com registration page. Wanted to thank you all for this post and let you know I was able to get the upgrade fees waived for me and my partners iphone 6's through AT&T. We bought the phones through AT&T, not sure if that matters.

I used the chat with rep window. At first the rep only gave my a 50% discount but I asked for the whole thing and it was given it pretty quickly

A: Here's what I can do for you I can lower the cost for you, I will removed the $40 as a one time courtesy.
J: there is another charge as well
A: Yes, For the two instead of paying $40 each I will lower the cost to $20 each. Because this is a standard fee and a one time charge as well.
J: i want both fees waived please
A: Okay.
A: I will take care of this $80.00 as a one time courtesy.
J: thanks very much
A: You're welcome.

Could be that it's part of your FAN agreement that they waive upgrade fees?

It's part of the discount we get with my company. It says it on my company discount website. I think every company has their own agreement with Att.

I got both my activation fees waived yesterday too.
Just asked nicely and they saw that I been a customer in good standing for over 16 years so they didn't hesitate at all.
They also lowered my family unlimited texting package from $30 to $20 a month. I didn't ask for that they just offered it;)

I just tried twice! and neither chat rep said they could waive it or give me a 'good customer' credit. The one rep did say I should call customer care and they have access to the accounts to waive/credit the fee. Why don't the chat reps have access to my account?? She did ask if I had my online account open, so maybe she was going to walk me through it?
