Nope.

Nope.

If you mean it's like having a laptop and tablet, fine. But an Asus laptop is nothing like a Macbook Air and an Android tablet is nothing like an iPad

Actually it's more like having a half assed tablet, and when you have it docked to the keyboard, it's like having a quarter assed laptop, and it's only a quarter cause it is still running Android.

Yeah, actually, some of us do care. Those of us that consider ourselves non-sheeple, that is.

Open your mind.

Mind is open. Open yours. And follow the forum rules with your tapatalk crap. We (me) are not sheeple. I understand the good and bad of the iPad, and the bad of the Android. I understand that I am required to carry a laptop (or find another job). I also enjoy having an iPad. I am also allowed to use it for some tasks, but not Android devices.

I also understand that there are many Fandroids with low expectations. Look at the Nook Color thread. " Far from perfect, but works great."

But there is something that a lot of people don't understand... They do have Android forums. Plenty of them. Use them.

Where did I say I hate the iPad? You have very poor reading comprehension. In fact, take a look at my signature.

Then why would start accusing people of being "sheeple" on a board dedicated to the iPad? The majority here love the device, which is the entire point of this forum. It doesn't make them sheeple or any other contemptuous word you want to throw out there.

My point is just that you don't need to rile people up to make your point. Even in your response to me, you had to throw in the aside "So defensive." I could also call you "So confrontational," but would that be fair?

You know what? You're right, and I apologize for the sheeple comment.

And I offended you, I apologize as well.

No worries. MR gets crazy every year during product launches, and the response to the iPad2 launch on the board has been, emotional, I suppose is an apropos term. I let myself get caught up in the rantings and ravings over the last 30 days, acted like a tool and was called out on it.

Yeah, I'm new here and got caught up in it too.

Let's not kid ourselves. Who the hell wants to use 10 inch device for long time when your primary object is to create something mildly complex and requires lots of input(especially when it involves typing)

I tried that w/ ultra portable 12 inch device and it doesn't work. You just get SICK of it. Every once in a while because it's emergency sometimes pays off but I rather not get myself in that situation and have my 15 inch mbp and ipad to satisfy my all computing needs.

Seriously, who the hell are we kidding by putting together something like transformer??

This ,my friend, is the classic example of niche market.

Now that this thread is completely derailed, I do have one valid question: what are you referencing with "And follow the forum rules with your tapatalk crap"? I'm pretty sure that MR doesn't give a rats *** what someone reads and posts to the forum with. I could be wrong, though. I was wrong once before, about 35 years ago, so I could be due again.

I had predicted that we would get threads like and responses like these for most tablets listed here. the Playbook is due soon and the Acer looks interesting with a fairly low price tag.

I still think the best course of action is a subforum dedicated to other tablets but

Yea, I have preached that too, this is supposed to be an iPad forum, but it falls on deaf ears. I guess there are too many Andriod forums out there now. Google has been improving Android security, but until they support hardware encryption and the devices start using it, Android is totally useless to me ( and should be to everyone else too), so I don't waste my time even looking at them. Now the Playbook is a different story. But will it succeed ?

as defensive as someone who resorts to calling people "sheeple".

Good to know, thanks for pointing it out.

Is it me, or have a lot of those dates come and gone and no products have materialized, save for the Xoom? We know the Playbook was pushed a month. Wonder how many more won't even make it out near their expected launch dates?

Laptops are laptops and tablets are tablets. Take away the fluff and you got the same thing happening.

Nope. Can I get any of these apps I use on the Android tablet? ArtRage, Reeder, Paprika, Omnifocus, Textie, Outpost...

What about the apps I need to use on the laptop? Rapidweaver, MindNode, Twiterrific, Billings, Courier, xScope, Xslimmer, Clusters...?

No? Then it's not the same thing.

I think that highlights the biggest reason I chose the iPad (which after getting it, I am VERY happy that I did!). The apps I wanted/needed to do the kinds of things I wanted a tablet for were on the iPad, with no promise they would ever come to any of the Honeycomb tablets. I was really considering the Xoom for a while, but decided it just wasn't going to satisfy me. I'm still unsure if an OS like Android will ever receive the same kind of support by the major software companies that others do?

unless you're pulling the dock out your a$$, it is just as inconvient to carry that thing around as it would be if you carried a whole laptop, in fact probably more because now you have to carry 2 things instead of one

Why I'm potentially interested in a dock option is because I'll never buy a netbook or a light but less powerful laptop like an Air.

It's useless to me at home as I need a full sized and powered laptop to have the processor power and storage power I need to do all my database and statisical analysis work. I'm not going to buy another smaller laptop to just be easier/lighter to carry when traveling and not needing to do that kind of heavy work as it would be a waste for me as I'd never use it at home and only travel 5-10 times a year.

But I can't just take my iPad on a trip as I need things like MS Office, USB drive support etc. So I'd be interested in a docking solution if it could add those things by basically being a laptop bottom and your iPad (or other) tablet becomes just a screen when docked.

It would be a lot smaller and lighter than my 15" thinkpad as it would be a 10" laptop when docked basically.

All that said, what I really want is an MS tablet that runs a nice tablet OS (not some slightly adapted version of desktop windows) and has a full MS office suite etc. as they I can just travel with that a small bluetooth keyboard etc. So I'll probably just wait and see what happens with their tablet OS and hope they get it right.

I can live without the iOS app store as I really only use simple apps like news readers, skype, Goodreader, Dropbox etc. that I can get equivalents on any platform. So I can easily move on to something else when some other tablet comes out that better fits into my workflow.

I absolutely love the form factor of the Tranformer. I have an iPad and a ZAGGmate keyboard currently, for a similar form factor. I like the idea of having a small and optional keyboard, and being able to switch between form factors easily. Tablets are better for some things (consuming) and laptops (inputting with a keyboard) better for others.

Nothing wrong with wanting the competition, I'm entirely tempted, myself :)

A few apps that the iPad doesn't have include:
...
So basically I can download unlimited music, look at superficial beauty, edit in hexadecimal, and overclock the tablet.

Wishing that I could do all that on my iPad.
Yup, I think Android is for you, along with the endless screwing around and tweaking to make it work right. The only thing I don't get is that you have some use for a file hex editor, and have figured out how to download music illegally, but haven't figured out how to load porn onto your iPad.

and have figured out how to download music illegally.

I don't know if you noticed it, but contrary to OP's claim Music Downloader Pro isn't available in Android Market either. It's been removed.

One thing I keep noticing is that Android Market has a decidedly Cydia-like feel to it. A ton of system utilities there.

Look at the ranking in Android paid apps:

1- PowerAMP
2- Titanium Backup
3- Root Explorer
4- ROM Manager
5- Widgets
6- Swype Keyboard
7- PicSay Pro
8- DocumentsToGo
9- weatherBug
10 SoundHound

I'm not sure if you've used it, but calling honeycomb smooth is insane to me. I've been messing around with a xoom and it seems sooooo choppy and awkward to me, compared to my iPad 2. I'm a former android user, and I'm not all impressed with how slow and unintuitive honeycomb is.
