Yep. It is a big version of the iTouch. The people who want a smaller version of the iPad... Just get an iTouch. We don't need Apple making three different sizes of the iPad. Small or large, you choose.

And I like the fact that it's a big version of the iTouch. That's what I want, so now I could finally replace my Macbook Pro with it. Very convenient because of it's super lightweight for my everyday use now :D

When the iPad came out I totally said the same thing!

You really don't know what you're missing till you actually use this thing!

I too said the same thing. My mother in law reminded me of this just the other day when I went to her home iPad in hand. I said, "yeah but I didn't realize how awesome a large iPod touch really is".

That bathtub analogy really is good. Anyone think of other similar scenario analogies?

A house is just a giant caravan. You will get nothing new from a house and simply waste your money if you already own a caravan.

Some speakers are just giant earphones. You will get nothing new from speakers and simply waste your money if you already own earphones.

A bulb is just a brighter candle. You will get nothing new from a bulb and simply waste your money if you already own a candle.

A pool is just a giant bathtub. You will get nothing new from a pool and simply waste your money if you already own a bathtub.

Nope. Pasen makes the iTouch, and they have nothing to do with Apple's iPod Touch.

See more about the iTouch here on engadget: http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/26/keepin-it-real-fake-part-lxvii-the-pasen-itouch/

My first iOS device was the first gen iPod touch. You couldn't pry it from my hands. My laptop started collecting dust because I liked to "touch" the Internet.

This caused me to wait in line overnight for the iPhone 3G. I had to have the constant connectivity. I have purchased every iPhone since.

When they debuted the iPad I said, wow it's a big iPod touch. I didn't know if I "needed" one so I restrained myself from buying. Then my neighbor down the street got one. I played with it for 5 minutes and knew it was something special. I then proceeded to order one and my iPhone took a back seat. When I was home it was in my hands at all times. The novelty never wore off, it was my "personal computer". I sold it a few weeks before the iPad 2 launched and was 12th in line to buy the iPad 2. Now I'm waiting for my 3rd gen on Friday.

Yes, it is a big iPod touch. But a big iPod touch is freaking awesome.

But it doesn't come with headphones........

This is just something that has always bugged me.
How many of you have heard numerous people (many of which never used an iPad) disregard it immediately as a "Giant iPod Touch"?

Yeah, I loved my iPad. I use it more than my Mac for casual browsing.

Some people are so ignorant though, never even used a device... yet dismiss it as pointless.

Sorry to be blunt, but this is an outdated argument and you need to get over it.

Comparisons between the Touch and iPad make sense ESPECIALLY when you look at the family of products in other categories. Blackberry/Playbook. Android Phone/Android Tablet. With other products then just because you mastered one doesn't mean you know how to use the other but with iOS then everything about it is so familiar and intuitive BECAUSE they are so similar. But that doesn't mean it has to be universally loved. To us its an invaluable tool/toy, but to others who don't share our individual usage needs then they may feel its pointless. That shouldn't affect you on such a personal level, especially after 2 years of usage.

Well since we're talking about things that bug us let me chime in. It bugs the hell out of me when people bring up old arguments from 2 years ago. You'd think at least after 2 years they'd have something more substantial to say.

Regardless of what you believe, OP, the iPad somehow managed to be a success. I mocked it at first and ended up buying one a month after they were released. Now it is a big part of my everyday life from watching TV in bed to using it when I cook, to fixing my motorcycle and so on.

I originally thought it was just a big iPod touch, and I still think that. I use my iPad2 daily - for browsing, movies, tv (cablevision app) and reading books, a lot more than I use my Macbook Pro.

- Pools are luxury items
- Pool owners spend more time bragging about it than actually using it
- Pool owners look down on non-pool owners
- Not everyone needs a pool

Yeah, I guess the analogy is accurate.

You know, if it bugs you.. no one if forcing you to read the thread, much less reply to it.

When Apple presented the iPad. I called it an oversized iPod Touch.

  • A year later I bought an iPad 2
  • Two years later I've ordered an iPad 3

BTW I've owned an iPod Touch. It's nothing like the iPad.

It doesn't really, I was using your words and in your own words, if it bugs you so much then don't buy one. The world is a lot less complicated then you make it.

I didn't say anything about the product itself bugging me, that would be a reason not to buy one. The world is a lot less complicated that you make it.

Yes, the iPad is exactly like a big iPod touch.

As it turns out, a big iPod touch is actually pretty awesome.

I think you misunderstood the OP. I believe he was saying that it bugs him when people say that it's just a big iPod touch. You both are on the same side. There's no point arguing :)

This is a 2 yr old topic.

The answer is simple:

It IS a giant iPod touch, but it keeps differentiating itself everyday.

BTW I've owned an iPod Touch. It's nothing like the iPad.

I've used my cousin's fiancee's ipod touch and it seemed very similar to me. What would you say is the difference (except for the obvious screen size, screen quality and the music app difference)
