I voted glass, I love the look of the iPhone 4. I use a front and bac screen protector on mine, mainly due to having a 2yr old daughter who likes to steal it whenever she can, so just a bit of added protection without the bulk of a case. I replace the screen protectors every few months and am always amazed at just how good the screen looks.

No case can even come close to the beauty of the naked phone. That's why Apple is using Gorilla Glass, so people can use the phone naked and not have to worry about scratches and cracks.

The gorilla glass is ONLY on the front. The back is normal glass and shatters quite easily.

I vote metal or aluminium. I had my 2g for 2 years and all it had were some scratches and a small dent. I didnt use no protectors whatsoever and has been with me thru alot. The iphone 4 on the other hand which i had for about 3 months, suffered a cracked glass on the back really fast. The glass is really fragile to breaking.

It looks really nice though:)

the iphone 4 is going to be like holding onto a bar of soap when your hands get sweaty

It really is. The thing already slips out of my hand and that's not even with sweaty hands. This summer should be interesting for everyone that goes 'naked'.

I'm replacing my broken 3g s and must say I will miss it because I just kept it wrapped in invisible shield. Now with the iPhone 4 that I will buy later today I feel like I will need to buy an ugly case for it because of the glass.

I managed to drop my 3 g s plenty of times (without a case)-ahh those were the days. I never had a cracked screen-some dents and nicks on the bezel around the phone but that was it.

I must say I would prefer the plastic because of that (but I must admit that the glass sure looks purty).

I voted plastic, but ideally I'd like a metal back. Glass was just a ridiculous idea for day to day use.

I would be happy going back to the 3gs design. I especially liked the rounded back because when you set it down it rocks a bit, but a flat back just slams flat.

Also want to stt something rubbery matte, like the finish on the incipio feather cases.

Wouldnt be unhappy with metal at all though, just not mirror scratchable like the ipods.

I am not familiar with Gorilla Glass. I just know that everyone I know who goes naked ends up regretting it. Everyone breaks their phone while mine has stayed safe and sound. I have dropped mine from trees and broken my case while my phone remains looking and working like new.

I guess some people are just more careful than others but I am just too rough with my phone.

Bahahwahwahaha.

Gorilla glass, my bum.
Mine fell from 15inches or less and cracked and shattered. And it was in a case. Now it's in an otterbox with a screen protector.
Helmets aren't pretty either, but broken heads are uglier.

Mine fell from 8 feet and everything, even the bezel, was unscathed.

This or glass. plastic is too cheap.

How will it be any different than last summer? I took my iPhone 4 on vacation just days after getting it, before I got my bumper, walked all over Disneyland, "sweaty hands" and all, and had no problems.

I used the bumper for a while, then abandoned it because I couldn't use any non-Apple cables with the thing, and I've since given up any hope of finding a case that I like. My iPhone 4 has been naked about 75% of the time I've owned it and looks like new. Maybe there are some tiny, tiny scratches that require twisting and turning it in extremely bright light, I don't know and I don't care - if it requires that much work to see, that's not a scratch.

This is a MUCH more durable screen than that of the 3G. In the 3G/S days, there wasn't a day that went by that this forum wasn't filled with "I scratched my screen" threads. I don't see those anymore. What qualifies as that now are posts by some of you severely OCD types who inspect everything with hundreds of watts of lights and jeweler's loupes and freak out at the slightest mark. Do you do this with the glass in your homes, mirrors, etc., or your car's paint?

Yeah it's true the front screen is much more stronger, but the back is regular glass. At least with the iPhone 3G/S people didn't have to worry about the glass shattering from a small drop. I think people always referred to the back when they were talking about the glass.
I'm sure the issues people are having now with the iPhone 4's glass back is legit, and not OCD.
The iPhone 4's glass design was 1 step forward 2 steps back.

glass.

I use screen protector on both front and back glass, often use bumper case when I'm working out, other than that, my phone is naked all the time. I got it since a week after the launch date, and guess what, it's still pristine. I don't know about OP, but I never worry about breaking the back glass, much less getting scratches or dent on my phone. I always have that easy of mind when it comes to using cell phone or ipod, maybe it's just me

My old BB curve has a plastic back, my ipod 4g has a metal back. But both are none compare to the classy glass back iphone 4 has.
