i wonder if the results would be different if AG was stock, and Glossy was introduced as an upgrade option.

Everyone complains that the glossy has horrible glare and is dim. The antiglare just looks washed out to me and when light hits it, the screen is more unusable than the glossy in the same light. IMO of course.

I voted glossy also.
Anti Glare is cool in certain conditions, but I wouldn't want to live with that as my definite screen.
for as good as glossy looks (even if in "ideal" conditions) it's a lot better than AntiGlare.
I'd rather have glossy and have it look beautiful in the dark and reflective/not as beautiful at some times,
than have Anti Glare and have it look decent at all times.

right.
reflective reflects things, but antiglare smudges the light and it blends together with all of what is on the screen.
not appealing.

I like antiglare - with glossy, i would have to add an antiglare filter and then the brightness would be the same anyway.

My impressions were that people were split about halfway ... looks like more people like glossy from the poll. The sample size needs to be larger though.

Yeh i played with my friends antiglare in all kids of lighting situations and its horrible. When the light hits it, it blends in and you cant see anything in that area.

Just got my AG 15" today, I can say I'm really happy I went for AG and hires, so I voted AG. It's my first matte screen laptop ever, unless you count my old Powerbook 3400...

Glossy strains my eyes when I read text for any decent period of time. I'm also one of the people who finds the reflections incredibly distracting and can't help but focus on them. For me, antiglare all the way!

Indoor dorm use, outside courtyard and college class room, train

Top of my head of where it would most likely be.

I voted AntiGlare...

Colours are not washed out.

But go for whatever one you want. I got the one I like best and works best for me, having used both types before.

It's a fact that both screens are different and serve differennt purposes, so one's not a better type than the other. So anyone that claims Glossy is crap or AntiGlare is crap is missing the point of there being two types.

There are a couple threads with a vote; but anti-glare all the way - more natural looking (I find glossy displays to make everything look plastic). Personally, after using a Glossy display on the MacBook I had before this MBP; going back to the matte screen is amazing.

I used to be really put off by the glossy only option from Apple, but after awhile I've come to love it. I position my iMac at home so that nothing reflects off the screen. The only time it's a problem is when I'm using my MacBook Pro out in the wild and I can't do anything about the surrounding lighting, but that's only once in awhile.

I am wondering why there are too many threads comparing AG vs glossy screen and people can't make a decision. Is there any ultimate guide to help us decide which mac is fit for our use??
