I didn't have a choice as I wanted the 13", but now that I have it, it does get sort of annoying. My bedroom has a border which has little shiny bits in it and if I'm looking at anything dark, it reflects off my screen. It gets annoying, but when I move out I should be okay with a new room and new wallpaper/paint.

I find Apple's new hi-res anti-glare stellar. However I also spend a lot of time on it as an engineer. Walking through the Apple Store the shiny Glossy displays look cool, and shiny toys sell. That's why Apple incorporated glass in the Glossy display. Marketing and profits being of great importance to all companies, Apples dialed in a brilliant plan to maximize sales as first, since their influence over their customers causes them to buy whatever uncle Steve suggests they should. Function in this case takes a back seat to being cool. Being seen with Apples latest, and impressing others.

Me? It's just a tool I use for work. Choosing anti-glare increases my productivity and satisfaction. I'm a long time very happy Apple customer. I've invested huge sums in their laptops, their simply excellent.

1. when walking in the store the glossy displays do look cool but check out the apple website i am seeing alot of marketing pictures with the air which has a silver bezel. will future macbooks have glass over the screen?

2. is the anti glare a brighter panel than the glossy?

That's not the point: the air hasn't got glass because it would make it weigh more - not because Apple thinks it's better like this.

If customers buy glass Apple will sell glass, and there's no indications that the majority (e.g. people not lurking in MR) doesn't like glass, quite on the contrary.

Great points

1. You think the public prefers glass, why
2. Am I reading too much into MBA is the future of mb it's all over the apple website

I'm fairly happy with my AG screen, when I see glossy screens I do get some envy. I'm sure if I has glossy I'd want the AG eachtime the screen was reflecting. I'm too indecisive.

This is pure speculation/100% opinion. Considering sales volumes for plasma televisions (glass panels) vs LCD televisions (film covered glass panels - looks like anti-glare screen), where LCD sets sell more, your "shiny toy" theory fails. Here, LCD sets sell more over plasma for different reasons, mainly price, availability/selection and lower power consumption, even though plasma sets produce a higher quality image.

There is a function to the glass displays of LCD screens on MBPs (besides aesthetics): vibrant colors and deeper blacks. Anti-glare screens kill the "pop" in colors and gray out black levels.

It's a tool used by many for work and play. Glossy increases productivity and satisfaction for many out there. The world wasn't cloned from your DNA...

I don't think you read that part of their post correctly. They were solely talking about themselves, you're trying to twist their words around :p

i dont like the silver bezels, i hope they stick with the black. i like the black on my 27" cinema, it seems to blend in more. seems more high tech

I voted glossy because you can always get an antiglare film to put over the screen :)

FYI this looks like horse manure.

I voted antiglare, because I am biased.

I picked up the HR AG because the screen looks beautiful. No washed out colors like others experience. Nice crisp, bright, and just gorgeous.

i wonder what the design direction will be for future apple products seemed like glass with black bezel. now that the air kept the silver bezel. i was at the apple store yesterday and there was a whole table of air and no glossy 15 inch mbp.

Im actually i the minority it seems as i prefer the silver bezel. When we had the first leaked images of the new MBPs a few years ago i thought that the black didn't suit the machine and looked out of place. Since seeing them in the flesh however they look a lot better than i thought, but i still think the silver rocks :)

1. how popular is matte outside this forum in the public/what do you think the % sales is between anti-glare and glossy?

2. any chance next round of mbp updates that anti-glare will become a standard config in the apple stores?

3. do you see apple continuing to use glossy screens in their product lines in the coming years?

4. imac and mbp use glass over the displays do you think apple will keep using glass.

i went to the apple store this weekend. in the past few years it was glossy displays not i see most 15/17 display anti-glare. i think i saw only 1 17 glossy on display.

Had 13'' pro for a week now , I am very happy with the gloss
screen , even in a bright day light filled room it has not been
a problem. I have used matte screen for years on my other laptops,
so I am pleasantly surprised :)

Why do laptops even come in glossy?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that desktop monitors come in glossy.

Glossy...:D

1.Glossy is crystal clear, has better contrast, deeper blacks, and vivid, almost liquid display...absolutely stunning!

2. The glass cover enhances the image and protects the underlying lcd. The glass is adhesive sealed around the black border, thus preventing dust, skin oils, and contaminants from contacting the underlying LCD. Glass is easy to wipe clean vs. wiping directly on the AG LCD surface.

3. The glass increases the stiffness of the lid.

4. The edge-to-edge glass with black border design has a purpose and just looks better!
