I bought a brand new 1992 Corvette 22 years ago. I had nothing but endless problems since the beginning. The dealership and General Motors were complete *******s about making good on the issues I was having. Needless to say, I will NEVER buy anything General Motors makes ever again. They can kiss my ********* ass..

:( Thanks … I've got an '04 Celica … :(

I was talking about Toyota now. Toyota used to make cool cars like the Celica, MR2 and Supra. I wouldn't consider any of those boring. It's a shame they don't make anything like them now.

I guess there's there's the Subayota, but Toyota couldn't even be bothered to sell it under their own brand.

Scion is there youth oriented brand. It's lost its luster lately, but the FR-S fits under that purpose.

It's a shame that they don't offer a more powerful motor for a great chassis it has.

Bull! You resounded first to deflect from GM just like a GM marketing spokesman. Or are you the type to argue all the time and be the center in every discussion?

Then answer my question.... Do you hate Toyota as much as GM for their covering up of the faulty gas pedal? Will you refuse to buy a Toyota like you said you wouldn't buy a GM in your first post?

If not, you're proving the point I am making in this thread. Two companies covered defects up. One gets a pass, got called a witch hunt by the govt to protect their investment, etc. The other villified. Same disgusting act, two different standards. One person already said he doubts GM will get the same fine Toyota did. I hope they do get the same fine and GM absolutely deserves it.

That's what I can't stand. I haven't defended GM at all in this thread over this ignition switch fiasco. It's the double standard I have been arguing over. Cover ups of defects that has caused deaths are horrible, disgusting, acts of greed, etc. There is no defending that. There should be just as much hate for Toyota as there is for GM though. They both did the same thing.

Documents and memo's leaked have shown that they did know about it since at least 2007 if not earlier if I am remembering correctly. They only came out when these accidents gained national attention.

They also got the Audi treatment of FUD being spread about the drive by wire system malfunctioning.

I'm not sure what you mean about FUD related to Toyota's drive-by-wire system, but there is an electrical engineer who studied it for over a year, and he identified a number of problems with it which could cause the drive-by-wire system to stop responding to input from the pedal. You can view his report here:

http://www.safetyresearch.net/Library/BarrSlides_FINAL_SCRUBBED.pdf

There are problems with the hardware (lack of EDAC memory) and software (the "kitchen sink" process" and failure to detect its death) to name just two.

Never owned a Toyota! They always look bland to my eye. I always thought the fine they got taught them a lesson and that fiasco should have scared the pants off other car manufactures. GM never learned of this until reporters starting asking questions about the death tool. The Lord knows GM will never get that large of a fine. IMHO someone in GM should face criminal charges for negligent homicides but the government will let that Union shop off the hook.

I was always a Honda/Acura person in my life accept for the 2nd hand GM (2002 G4) I bought while Army hand nothing but problems from electrical (Door window eletric drivers not working, alternator stopping). I glad I was able to resell that piece of junk.

The problem is that because of bankruptcy, this is literally not your father's Chevrolet. It's a new company and they are saying that they are not responsible for the old GM's mistakes. While that legally could wind up being true, you burn an auto buyer by sticking them with a lemon with your brand badge on the grill, you could lose a customer, for life.

My grandmother bought a new Pontiac every year until 1970 when a dealer refused to fix something simple having to do with the linkage on her 6 month old car. She never bought another Pontiac again. Few things inspire brand loyalty like a vehicle here in the USA.

I think that GM is being short sighted to save a buck and it could really forever tarnish the brand. That could cost them more in the long run than fixing the problems.

They are negotiating with the people affected by the ignition issue for compensation. I hope GM will do what it takes to come up with a deal that will satisfy the victims families. They need to do the right thing and show the people they have changed. Unfortunately GM is in control of the situation vs. the judge/jury. Which means GM can say, " Take it or leave it" to the victims families.

Dealers suck. I am personally rooting for Tesla to break the dealers control over selling cars.

But what about fixing all the vehicles still on the road that have not been involved in accidents yet? This isn't the first recall that GM has tried to avoid on cars produced before the bankruptcy.

Hence the recall of said vehicles. They are just claiming they can't be held liable( aka can't be sued) for "Old" GM's actions due to the bankruptcy.

And that may be legally true but as I've said they could lose a lot more than a few dollars by staying to this course. Chevrolet, Buick and GMC are some of this nation's most recognized brands. Baseball, Apple Pie and a Toyota? Not hardly. I can see ads from other car makers now about them not standing up for their products. I just recently saw an advertisement talking about the Camero's long history.

Hence why GM is negotiating with the affected group for compensation. So lets see what they negotiate and lets hope GM will bend over for them instead of low balling them and saying, " Take it or leave it".

GM needs to negotiate a deal that the affected group is satisfied with. That is how they will start recovering from the fiasco.

Upper management needs to be held accountable. Not just some pay off and hope it goes away.

Upper management involved in this is long gone. Rick Wagoner, etc. Why new GM didn't recall it is also gone( Ed and Akerson).

Though Congress should drag their asses in to testify for this instead of going after the new CEO that just took control when everything hit the fan. You will get more answers and accountability going after people that were involved vs. grilling a person not involved.

Though the timing of it was planned. No way Barra becomes the new CEO when this was to occur by chance. This was a planned out move.

As Gibbs Rule 39 says....

Rule 39: "There is no such thing as coincidence."

Wasn't the current CEO in charge or the safety division?
