I'm wondering if any one has ever asked Mary out right about the report, survey, etc. that supports this decision. I've had a few GM vehicles in my life, and while we there may be a debate how well GM does cars. I'm curious to see how this GM fairs at this.

As a side note, I wonder if there is any recourse for google/apple regarding this situation, or the consumer (privacy-supposed) in this case.

I hate Carplay in my Jeep. It's intrusive and i don't use it. But as soon as a passenger plugs in their iPhone it starts automatically with carplay and plays their music. If I mute the music then every time the passenger swips or touches the screen it unmutes and starts playing music again. WTF? Carplay is totally useless, has not a sing;le feature I ever use and I still can't deactivate it for good. Apple is great on hardware and the OS, but they should
stay away from software solutions please.
Sounds like a jeep problem. In my Tahoe you have to manually accept the pairing and enable carplay via the infotainment.

I think this is the trend we will see most makers do. No one will want to handle Google or Apple the revenue from services & subscriptions, and the interface of their product. It sucks, but unfortunately I see that’s where we are going.
I certainly don’t want to hand to to GM.

A Chevy Trax or Equinox was certainly going to be on my lists for a new car next summer but now definitely won't be. The only way I'd consider it would be if a native Apple Music and Podcasts app came out but why would Apple ever build that?

They've been losing out on driver data and subscription fees for years (and I'm guessing Sirius radio has also been similarly affected). I am surprised not to see this happen sooner, BUT it doesn't necessarily rule out a GM for me (though I've been a Honda driver for decades). My main question is whether or not they'll do things to restrict functionality if I buy an after market CarPlay system to replace their proprietary spyware?
It’s getting harder to find aftermarket units that will even fit into new cars and trucks. The automakers know what they are doing. The aftermarket industry will have to provide receivers and controllers that can plug into OEM screens. That’s assuming the OEM receivers and controllers can even be separated from their screens. Like I say… the automakers know what they’re doing.

Well depending on when you get it, youll be grandfathered in.

No one in their right mind is clamoring for their car to be yet another bespoke “infotainment” platform. This isn’t 1995. People want continuity with what’s on their smartphones. I understand GM not wanting to relinquish the console, but they’re misreading the room.

What hubris coming from a CEO.

Glad to check GM off my future shopping list.

The owners who want Apple CarPlay are the consumers with the most disposable income. You don’t want to lose those customers and I’m a big one (20+ new cars in the last 20 years).

All my current autos have Google and Carplay, and i still prefer CarPlay because it works seamlessly with my Apple ecosystem.

My 5 year old Carplay-enabled car on iOS26, with that big beautiful screen, feels more modern than a new car, just a little. These big wigs see that as a threat to their cycles of planned obsolescence - the original ensh*tification.

The autoplay sounds like a Jeep issue. I've never gotten in an unknown car and had CarPlay start without me doing something on both the phone and head unit. The unmuting thing is also weird and not something I've experienced. Why do you say it's useless? Do you not use Maps, Music, Podcasts? If you don't, I guess there isn't much point to CarPlay. But for me, it's the best way to do all of those things and I won't buy (or rent) a car without CarPlay.
