Gmail for iOS received a major update today with a brand new look, improved search with instant results and spelling suggestions, Undo Send for retracting accidental emails, and swipe to archive functionality for easier inbox management.

The app now more closely resembles Inbox by Gmail and Gmail for Android with a Material Design makeover, including an all-new pop-out side menu with a splash of color. Meanwhile, the new features should result in a faster experience for iPhone users.

Gmail is available as a free download on the App Store [Direct Link] for iPhone and iPad. The app is now at version 5.0.3.

Do they have a version of Google inbox for iOS yet? Once you use inbox its impossible to use regular Gmail or any other email app anymore. Inbox truly changes the way you do E-mail.

A complete redesign of the UI? Surely they finally added split view support! There's no way they could put that much work into the UI and not add split view, that would be crazy pants!

Arrrgh it kills me that not only can you still not swipe from the left to pull up your folder list, now doing so accidentally archives some e-mail.

There has been Inbox for Gmail on the app store for quite some time now. Do a search for Inbox and it should pop up.

Can someone please tell me how to navigate. In the previous version, when in an email, I swiped right to go to the next email. The only way I see to navigate now is to press back and return to the list of emails, I couldn't find an FAQ for this app to answer this. How is this done?

Can I have it NOT arrange my emails by thread in the new version? I hate when I have to view by thread and this was the reason I switched away from the gmail app

am I missing something? where's Inbox? I have starred, important, sent, drafts, all mail, spam, trash, everything... no inbox?

edit...

Seems like "everything" is the new inbox... not sure I would use "everything" and "all mail" - sounds like they should be the same thing

Just tried it, and deleted it again. If I can't swipe in your menu from the left I'm not going to use your app on a 5.5" phone.

As it's my main email it automatically updated on my iPad and iPhone. The initial look of it is good. Will have to try out any new features and see how this goes.

How about a log out ability. I hate removing my account.

What the heck is archive for and where do emails go when they archived.

Seems like you're both admitting that the 5.5" phone is too big to use with one hand. How ironic. :)

Does a double-tap on the Home button bring the menu button within reach? Yes, that's three actions instead of one, but I'm still curious.
