How about a log out ability. I hate removing my account.

What the heck is archive for and where do emails go when they archived.

Gmail does not separate messages into folders, but instead uses labels that mimic folders. It's these labels that determine how messages are viewed and organized. When you archive a message, it leaves it in the "All Mail" list, but removes the "Inbox" label so that it no longer appears in the Inbox list. It may also add an "Archived" label, I don't know. I think you have control over that behaviour?

Boo. 3 clicks to label a message now? Have to hold finger on message to select multiple messages?

It is a lot faster I'll give them that. Definitely prettier.

Can someone please tell me how to navigate. In the previous version, when in an email, I swiped right to go to the next email. The only way I see to navigate now is to press back and return to the list of emails, I couldn't find an FAQ for this app to answer this. How is this done?

Wondering the same damn thing..I used to swipe through all my new emails...now I cant figure out how to go from one to another without going back to the main screen! What the heck!

Just tried it, and deleted it again. If I can't swipe in your menu from the left I'm not going to use your app on a 5.5" phone.

In settings you can choose whether swipe left is for archive or delete. Under "When removing messages I prefer to..."

Is it really had to implement swipe to delete? That's what I want most of the time.
In the Settings menu you can choose whether swiping a message archives it or deletes it.

That's not what they meant. They want to access the side menu by swiping anywhere on the screen instead of the top.

Unfortunately this app is still useless to me without snooze settings. I find the Inbox UI awful so have been using AnyDo's Email app and it's been amazing. If Google would include the snooze features into native Gmail app, they'd have a killer app.

The thing is, the app developers seem to think they're being clever. They are not. This app is not an 'update' at all.

If anyone figures out how to navigate the emails, that'd be great.

Another big feature that appears to have been removed - in the old iOS Gmail client, by turning off the signatures capability, the signature you have set up for each "send as" email adddress on their servers through the desktop GMail would be appended based on which email address you are "sending as". This is now gone! So if you receive a message as "joe@xyz.com" and that has a different signature on the server, you can't get it.

This is a show stopper for me.

Swiping Anywhere (height wise) from the left edge to right returns you to the menu
In the Settings menu you can choose whether swiping a message archives it or deletes it.

How is this anydifferent than inbox? Anyone?

Inbox drove me up the wall because the default reply behavior was always "Reply All" and, insanely, there was no way to change that. To receive a new email badge & push notification for an email FROM MYSELF is absolutely ridiculous.

Can I have it NOT arrange my emails by thread in the new version? I hate when I have to view by thread and this was the reason I switched away from the gmail app
You can't , Google, like Apple thinks they know best for what you want.

damn I just tried the new iOS interface for Gmail - it's childish candy coated crap. I have two work accounts with Gmail and I wish I could change the interface to a more business like one...

I don't see a button for select all :(

I don't see a way to select and manage more than one message at a time, period. Nor can you do any message management from the index (except archive/delete) - you have to be viewing a message to do most stuff now.

They've basically removed features - courageously I guess.

Edit: No, I'm wrong - if you long-hold a message then you regain the ability to select more than one (by checking them off like before). Im not crazy about it, but it works.

Nothing new to see here. It's the same old limited app with some Material Design shininess slapped on top. They still can't seem to manage anything as basic as styled text or an "all inboxes" view. Quite disappointing.
