I'm not assuming everybody has a case compatible with MagSafe. I'm assuming that someone on a subway with a dying phone would do the sensible thing & simply remove the case to allow the phone to charge, or use one of the four or five other available ways to charge it prior to it dying. A phone doesn't just suddenly die. It's something that you are well aware is coming long ahead of time. The phone quite literally gives you a countdown to it happening.

Apparently, removing your case to charge your dying phone for ten minutes during your ride, wasn't something you were willing to do for whatever reason. That was a personal choice which had some unfortunate consequences. Your case may not have been MagSafe, but your phone certainly was. You were not a victim in that situation. It was 100% self inflicted. A battery dying is something that is totally avoidable, yet people still continue to act as if there's nothing they can do.

I have no issue with people buying a Pro Max, I own one myself. If that phone gets you through the day, then great. What I have an issue with is this victim mentality people have when it comes to charging their phones. Every post I see regarding this topic, people make themselves sound completely helpless, as if there was absolutely nothing they could've done to prevent it. I just find it extremely bizarre. There are people who are even complaining about the Pro Max screen on time. If you are using your phone for eight hours each day, yet supposedly can't find fifteen minutes to charge it, then I'm sorry, that is laziness.
I have full pockets much of the time. I don't have room to keep a MagSafe battery pack with me at all times just in case my battery dies, on top of all the other essentials that I have in my pockets. Sure, that's an option, but I don't always know when I will or will not need it, either. It depends on the day, what I'm doing, how hot is it outside, and multiple other factors on how long the phone battery will last. I also did not realize I would be out so long that day. My phone was full when I left the hotel, we (a group) made a decision to go somewhere else that was a long ways away by Subway. My day was longer than expected. Battery died. It's really not that complicated.

I don't keep a charger coiled in my pocket just in case, and I don't keep a MagSafe battery pack in my wallet either. Sure, those are options, that doesn't mean they are ideal for everyone. Never said I was a victim, either. Batteries die, it happens, and I get that. The 12 Pro was far better than my iPhones 4, 5, 6, and 7. All i'm saying is a significantly larger battery (max size) over the 12 Pro would have made it through that day and I wouldn't have had to do anything but carry the phone.

If you think any iPhone is heavy, you might need a gum membership.

This has nothing to do with needing a 'gum' membership.

Regardless of the weight iPhones will feel different for everyone. I have an ongoing issue with my right wrist so holding my 12 Pro Max (228g) in these last couple of months was horrible, the weight of it alone would make my wrist swell, I could barely hold it up for longer than 30 seconds. My new 15 Pro is much better but because of my wrist it still feels heavy FOR ME.

Every year I sign up for a gum membership, and by February I’m barely chewing a stick a week

I went from a 14pm to a 15 pro. I definitely see the reduction in battery life but it’s a non issue for me as I have access to multiple chargers around me, as well as the Anker MagSafe battery pack for backup.
I did the same thing (through carrier deals I basically did it for free). I’m still deciding if I wanna go for the Max instead.

Had Plus phones back in the day and liked their large 16:9 aspect ratio. Once the X came out and the Pros which had the same cameras/features whether you got the Max or the smaller size, I have been sold on small. The Max's were just too big for simple one handed operation. LOVED my 11 Pro, really liked the 13 Pro with better battery/more efficient but missed the curved nature of the 11.

Then I got the 14 Pro. It was trash. A step back in battery life. Was charging that thing constantly. Battery was low 90's maybe 89% health within 6-8 months. Dropped and smashed it, got a new phone a couple months ago and it was slightly better in the battery department. It was heavy and the square edges were getting old.

Because of not being able to have less than all the best features, I had to get the 15 Pro Max for the camera, knowing that the extra battery life would be a welcome change.

I'm glad for the weight reduction, the slightly curved or chamfered edges and the slightly smaller form factor. It makes holding this phone careless a much more enjoyable experience. It doesn't feel too much worse to hold than the 14 Pro with a case. I'm sold on the "Max" for now. 6.9" may be a deal killer for the 16 Pro though...

I've always been a plus or pro max user. I'm a tiny person and every phone seems big and heavy to me anyway. The battery is a nice bonus but it's the big promotion display for me. Everything just looks so fabulous on it. My only exception was the iPhone X. But the year after that I went back to the max.

The rumors of Apple going even bigger are absolutely insane to me. If true, they’d better do it by shrinking the bezels or introducing three size options. I don’t understand how normal people are supposed to use these massive phones.

So, yesterday I tested watching content on both 14PM and 15 Pro and the difference of the grip is there for sure. Always amazed at the screen of the Pro Max but the size and grip of the 15 Pro just outweighs the larger screen for me.

Have you held the 15 PM compared with the 14 PM? My SO has a 13 PM and the difference of the caseless feel in the hand is remarkable.

Those square glass & metal bricks sucked. Sure they "felt premium" but at the cost of comfort and usability. 15 pros are not as comfortable as the 11 Pros(the best of everything really) but they are light-years better than 12/13/14

It why I am not sad I went from 14 Pro to 15 Pro Max.

I feel the same way. A phone bigger than the Pro Max just sounds like iPad Mini territory. If the Ultra version rumors end up being true, it will be interesting to see the how the footprint compares to the Pro Max. I don't really see how the bezels could get any smaller at this point.

Thanks for the input. Going to the Apple Store today to check. I’m really curious of the 15 Pro Max weight difference. I agree with you on the 11 series but I do appreciate that the 15 series are a solid middle ground between the recent square and previous rounded designs.

I’ve never owned a Max before although I did buy an 11PM years ago that I returned because I decided I wanted to wait for the 12 series.

I was pleasantly surprised at how light the 15PM was, coming from a 12P. I love the result of upsizing for both the screen and the battery.

When I handed her the 15 PM after years of her using Max phones, her immediate words were, “Whoa! This feels way lighter”

I do think it is more noticeable than the 19 or whatever grams because of the change of inertia vs the brick phones.

Where the weight is inside the phone makes it even more noticeable than the grams.

Go caseless(makes it way more noticeable) and get a MagSafe popsocket for extra grip/one-handed use.

I might have missed it, but no one here is talking about the Pro Max camera--I think it improves the 3x zoom of the Pro to 5x.

Trying to decide which to get, and I think I'm gonna do the Pro for the more comfortable, smaller "carry factor".

Don’t have much to add on that but I will say the 5x camera is cool. I’m sure the 3x is not bad either though. But the 5x is surprisingly clear, I’d say it’s a nice pro to having the Max.

I write this with such a heavy heart but I had been counting down the days for the iPhone 15 launch for months because I wanted to get the Pro model (previously had/have a 12 Pro Max). I wanted the smaller phone that would be less heavy and easier to carry around so when it came this years pro order day I had the 15 Pro in my basket, checked out and then delivered on launch day.

I LOVE the Pro but the battery is awful!!! I know I know smaller phone smaller battery but it barely lasts, for example I call my sister in law on FaceTime almost every day and on my 12 PM I could talk to her for an hour or two and battery wouldn't be a issue and I'd still have plenty to go on for the rest of the day but with the 15 Pro for example, I was talking to her today on 100% and an hour later I was on 48% and it was on 12:30pm so I had to recharge later in the day...

I also noticed the Phone heats like mad when talking on it, I had to take my case off for it to cool down which was annoying. I know phones heat but the phone was HOT!

I guess I'm just looking for others who have been in my position, who have had to go to the Pro Max because of issues with the Pro this year... last year... ever?

For whatever it's worth, my 15PM in the hand feels lighter than a 14 Pro from last year. I don't know if it's due to that "rotational inertia" jazz or what, but the difference is noticeable. And I love it.

I went from a 14PM to a 15P and I am perfectly content. Love the smaller size and the battery life has improved since about 48-72hrs with the phone. It's not on the Pro Max level, of course, but I can get through a day with at least 30% battery remaining and that is good enough for me.

I love being able to use ALL of my phone with one hand again.

I’ve not had any battery issues. There are more recent YouTube tests of 13/14/15 Pro battery life and the 15 won at like 8 hours 7 minutes of straight use or something. That’s a lot. Also these things can charge up to 50% in like 30 mins. You can also slap a MagSafe battery pack on the back if you need to without much added bulk if you knew you were going to have a battery intensive day. If you aren’t, just go naked and enjoy the smaller form factor.

With the PM it will always be big in the pocket and hand for a lot of users.

With the Pro you have some flexibility depending on your needs that day.

Staying with the 15 Pro. Took my 14PM yesterday for trade-in, tested out the 15PM and while it is noticeably lighter and comfortable, it’s tough to beat the advantages of a smaller form factor, atleast for me at the moment. Maybe next year I’ll upgrade to the bigger model.

I’ve not had any battery issues...
I read somewhere that depending on how many files you have (had) on your previous phone, that switching to a new one (or maybe it was from iOS 16 to 17?) caused the OS to re-index all the files, which could take days. And of course, this means processor power and heat generation.

Maybe that's what's causing extra heat/battery depletion? Or if simple/few files, not?
