Have any newer 1TB drives been released that are worth looking at? What is the best 1TB drive right now for the MBP?

Remilio,

My 1TB drive has been doing the same thing for a while. My system beachballs quite a bit. The drive has no problem with sustained read/writes, but when it comes to random read/writes, the drive brings the whole system to a halt (it's the bottleneck).

I just purchased a 2TB mirrored-RAID external drive to put all of my media on. I'll be replacing the 1TB drive with a 320GB 7200RPM one.

After using this drive for longer than most, I would only recommend using it as a secondary "media" drive, with another drive in the optical bay.

Going SSD finally.

After dealing with this WD 1TB drive for a few months, I've noticed that it seems slower than my stock 250GB. And I'm a little aggravated by spinning beach balls too. I just ordered a 128GB SSD Friday (it cost about $130 with free shipping). Not a bad price. Can't wait to see the performance increases. I'm moving all my media off onto external drives. When taxes come in, I'm probably getting a Drobo also. :D

yeah mine is beach balling too lately. just froze in the middle of an audio edit, so I lost it :(

I would love a hard drive upgrade, but I don't want to worry about beach balls or slower read/writes. I lost an audio edit on the stock hard drive but I am sure that has to do with it being a 13in MBP and the associated hardware.

Finally replaced the 1TB drive. Newegg had a WD 320GB 7200RPM drive for $50. It's about time the computer starts running like it is supposed to.

I think I'll get a external enclosure for the 1TB drive and throw a bunch of movies on it.

EDIT: The new 320-7200 drive is in and kickin'. It feels like I just upgraded to a newer gen. MBP :)

The new SSD kicks serious ass...

Haven't had a chance to post lately, since upgrading to the SSD. I don't have any experience with doing my own benchmarking, but the speed difference is more than noticeable. My MBP boot time is considerable faster, apps load within a second or two and Safari is exponentially faster. I thought I had a slow internet connection, but it seems that the 1 TB drive's speed must have had something to do with the lag I experienced when surfing. I'm glad I made the switch…I don't think I'll ever have a spinner as my main boot drive again.

The SSD, by the way, is a KINGSTON SNV425S2128GB. It's not a high performance drive, but it didn't need to be for me.

I need at least 750GB, that's my problem.

My system is constantly freezing lately. I don't see why that should change over time if my system is about the same as it was when I installed this. 5200 is just SLOW I guess. :(

My problem is that I would like my iTunes folder on my Macbook, which is about 250GB itself. Then my pictures in Lightroom are about that much as well. Plus video editing I do, which is at least 100GB a pop usually. That's 600GB right there without anything else.

The best would be to install SSD in primary and 1TB in optibay. That's what I'm doing.

I don't think I can move my Lightroom catalog - I've heard it's almost impossible without losing all your captions.

Also sometimes I burn and rip discs - is the drive easily swappable? I guess I could get an external disc drive.

currently with my 1TB (2.66 i7, 8GB RAM):

Just awful.

question - did your 1TB fit in your optibay? I heard 12.5mm was too high. Plus no sudden motion sensor support. However, better to have your SSD in the hard drive slot because it can't hibernate in the dvd drive spot.
