two Apple Stores in Manhattan have confirmed that customers looking to spend upwards of $10,000 on an Apple Watch Edition will get 30 minute appointments with Apple employees instead of 15 minute appointments.

Wow.

Also, which watch would you suggest for Lee??? WE NEED TO KNOW.

What customer would let the Apple Store employee pretty much make a decision about which watch they want based on a few small tidbits of personal information?

I suppose that's the very least they could do for people who spend that much money on something that will become obsolete in 2-3 years.

Apple will need to do a credit check prior to giving out 30min appts... i'm tempted to just say I want the gold watch just to spend 5mins with it and 25mins trying on other watches and combos. My watch of choice is 42mm Sports with white band.

Apple wants its store employees to give out fashion advice? Sounds like a really bad idea.

Who needs fashion advice on wearing a dang watch? If you can afford the gold watch but have no fashion sense you can also afford a stylist. You know a little person to take care of your fashion needs. A person definitely not employed by Apple.

I wonder if the person they hired from Burberry is the one pushing the fashion angle for Apple watch? This fashion thing seems ridiculous. I don't like it. I collect watches. I love watches. The push for fashion on this turns me off. Just make a nice looking device that looks good in a various casings that does cool stuff and let me worry about my fashion Apple.

Is this how they are creating the need for this...it's needed cuz it's fashion? What about need based on what it can do and not how it coordinates with your outfits.

Come on Apple.

> server in a restaurant

> is considering buying a $700 smartwatch

Sure thing, Apple. Sure. Thing.

I'm a server...have been for 6 years and I'm getting an AppleWatch.

Lee is a server in a restaurant. Lee can't afford a Casio, let alone a smart watch.

That is so untrue. I make good money as a server. I have a decently expensive car, paid my way through Undergrad and beginning law school in the fall. All on a part time server job.

$700 is a lot for a watch, yes, but it's not unobtainable for a waiter... that's like saying that a waiter can't afford a computer.

It's certainly a questionable choice, but I think it's a luxury that pretty much anyone with a job could afford.

Especially since I've known waiters who worked at high[er] end restaurants who brought in $150-200K+. I don't think they're likely a target for a $15,000 watch, but a $750 or less option? $1000 less? Sure.

:)

Depends on the restaurant.....

Exactly.

I really would like to know if there is a "right answer" to the Lee question, or if it is just an exercise in learning how to talk about the watches.

Wow. Just because someone is a server at a restaurant doesn't mean he or she is broke.

Seriously, I was a server for almost a year to make extra money to pay off school debt and was making a few grand shy of 100k.

Not everyone who is a server works there full time. Some have other jobs too.

Come on Apple.

People are taking the "fashion" angle a little too seriously. All they are doing is teaching employees how to ask questions to help customers arrive at a color that is best for them. Most people will know exactly what they want or have it narrowed to a few options upon coming to the appointment. It isn't a big deal.

Jeffy is an engineer at a large manufacturing company. He knows that technology is outdated in 2 years, and this is a version 1 product. He really wants an :apple:Watch, and has saved up $400 in Best Buy cards and has an extra $300 in his personal account his wife gives to him. He will probably get version 3 of this watch as well.

Which watch will you recommend to him?

Damn, maybe I'm in the wrong line of work.

Especially since I've known waiters who worked at high[er] end restaurants who brought in $150-200K+. I don't think they're likely a target for a $15,000 watch, but a $750 or less option? $1000 less? Sure.

Exactly.

maybe its the german side in me but i wouldnt even want that. i just want to be left alone when i go shopping.

also that seems kinda ... rude? to seperate customers into such obvious clusters

"Lee is a server in a restaurant..."

If Lee can afford that watch he's stealing. I used to work restaurants during college. Never made enough to feel like I could afford a $1k watch. Between rent and drinks after work (not necessarily in that priority order), I'd never have blown that kinda cash on a watch.

Now that I'm older...well...maybe I'll take two. One for me, and one for my wife, so she doesn't give me any ***** for buying a $1k watch.

The Apple Watch is intriguing, but I'm waiting for at least v.2. Worrying about keeping two things charged during the day is just too much, and I want a watch that shows the time all the time. But giving fashion advice? And making this watch significantly about lifestyle and fashion? Apple is getting close to jumping the shark. But if they can pull it off...
