Gosh, I was really expecting Apple to announce you could replace the battery and cpu ~$xxx so you could keep them for a long time....but nothing.

$10k for a disposable watches Think they'll sell well at first as the true believers buy them, but unless they have a way they don't become obsolete in 2/3 years I don't see sustained big sales...

I think the targeted audience for the Apple Watch Edition would be more turned off by the fact that their software features are identical as those sporting (pun intended) the cheapest watch.

Isn't differentiation the biggest reason people are prepared to own this prestigious version over the cheaper models?

It's interesting that in the conference they spent the most time on the Sport edition with the long video about how great the aluminum was. The did a moderate video on the regular apple watch and the stainless steal, and then spent about 5 seconds saying the Edition watch is made of gold and costs $10k.

People were making a stink about losing a thumb to a thief for Touch ID..

Now the whole arm is gonna go.

I cant wait to see the knock-offs that are actually an Aluminum turned gold.

$349 plus gold= profit for someone.

The Edition version is for almost nobody, and "value" math is irrelevant. It exists to make the fashion world take Apple Watch seriously, and thus is brilliant. Other tech companies that don't grasp this will be tearing their hair out.

For the rest of us, just spend your $10k to buy 28 Apple Watch Sports. Put 14 on each arm, and stay warm without the need for clumsy sleeves.

I have a friend who works for Apple, I'll use her 25% family and friends discount to save $2500.

It makes the aluminum and steel watches look cheap (part of Apple's marketing strategy).

That's the dumbest thing I've heard in awhile. Do you think a normal person would spring for the Edition because the other models look "cheap"? Your statement would make sense if there was a $200-$300 price difference.

You have to either be
a) stupid
or b) filthy rich
... to even consider buying that thing which will be out of date this time next year.

While your point A is valid, your point B is irrelevant (by it's very definition). People with that kind of money can simply buy a new one next year. 10K? That's like dropping pennies for them....

We get it. Commenters here are not the target demographic for the Apple Watch Edition. Move along.

Justin Bieber will probably get two..... Or just have his picture taken with one and pretend like its his.

How do I upgrade?

This is insane if they don't offer a way to upgrade the internals for around the price of a Watch Sport, or maybe ~$500.

It's not crazy to spend this much on fashion for those to whom it matters, but a traditional watch is timeless (whereas this is outdated next year).

The only thing classic about (buying) this watch is classic foolishness.

price here is irrelevant, buyers have enough $$$ to do whatever... it's a fashion piece and something Apple wants celebrities and public figures to wear

Exactly. There are plenty of people who will spend far more than that on a watch that just tells the time.

The $10,000 Apple Watch Edition is *NOT* *NOT* *NOT* for the average person. The price tag isn't the only reason. It is for people who are willing to spend 5 figures on a watch. There are exceedingly few watches that have an intrinsic value of >$10,000 (unless you made a Moto 360-sized watch out of a solid lump of gold, or encrusted with many diamonds...) Yet people regularly pay far more than that for a watch.

I do fully agree with the arguments that a $50,000 Rolex won't become obsolete in 3 years the way an Apple Watch may, but still - people who are interested in a $10,000 Apple Watch aren't going to be the kind who care that it is obsolete in 3 years - they'll buy the $10,000 Apple Watch 2 next year. And the $10,000 Apple Watch 3 the year after that. (And still have spent less money than a $50,000 Rolex. And don't even get me started on $1 million Patek Philippe watches...)

$10,000 is for the rubber strap.

$17,000 for the cool leather one.

Prices are up on Apple now

$1,099 for the Space Black 42 MM sweet!

So it's really $7,000 for just a band? Do replacement bands for high end watches go for that much?

Although way out my price range (leaning towards the Sport or possibly Steel band), there are people out there that spend thousands of dollars on a purse or high end wallet. This edition is for the luxury goods market, and comparably is priced in line with it. But no way I could drop 10k on that.

Glad I could provide you with some dumbness for your day.

/By the way, you completely misunderstood what I wrote but that's my fault for using imprecise words. Sorry. "Look cheap" was a reference to price, not appearance.

Wow. Was the 'one sixth of production run is Edition' story a 'fact' or a rumour? Shifting a million $10k watches seems inplausible.

Plus in 2 years you can go on Pawn Stars and still get $2K for the melted gold:eek: Only $8K to rent the gold. Ohh but wait... that only includes the rubber band.. So you wont do that. Better spend 15K

$2-4K would make this an anniversary gift. $10K for the base gold leaves this to the 1% for sure.

Seriously?

If you’ve got $10K to blow on over priced tech, go for it. If I was spending that kind of money on a watch it would be a Rolex, something with actual value.

I think Switzerland is safe.

The gold/red Apple Watch Edition over here is £13,500

Which is the equivalent of $20,000.
