$349 not so bad for the Sport anymore, eh?

This watch doesn't do anything that the Galaxy gear watch doesn't do.and the galaxy watch is way cheaper than this one. I am not a fan of Samsung products by no means but Apple needs to start being a little more on point with their prices if they want regular people to buy them Wouldn't it be nice if they came out with an app that would allow you to use all of the functions of the Galaxy gear watch on your iPhone?

We will see how on point apple will be on price after we get some sales numbers, but I'm guessing it will sell very well. The gold may not sell too many copies here, but in the Middle East and Asia? I wouldn't be surprised if the Watch edition sells out before the regular apple watch.

This ^^

These things will sell like mooncakes when they go on sale in Peking.

This price point is clearly aimed at the middle & far east. :D

For $10,000, I'd expect the engraving to be a little better than this.

Jebus. That 'A' engraving is outrageous for a product of this price.

Wonder why the Sport and Steel watches are cheaper for the larger watch. Makes sense that the larger watch is more expensive, like with the Edition edition.

$10,000 watch with the guts of a $350 one. Don't think Rolex has anything to worry about.

Especially when the internals will be out of date in year or two. What do you do with useless 10K gold watch? Seriously, if Apple thinks this is the way of future then they need to check their bearings. Anyone who owns 10K+ watch expects it last several life times even if they have no intention or need to view it as an long term investment.

Joking aside, this forum is very pro-Apple, but I've not seen one positive comment about the $10k watch.

This makes me question who is going to actually buy one. In the space of a couple of hours it's become a thing of ridicule and a joke.

Who would want to wear something that attracted such negative comment?

They are for people who don't spend tens of thousands of dollars on a product that will be obsolete in twelve months

Spoken like a true horologst!

People in Asia and the Middle East will eat it up like hotcakes.

BTW, could this be the very first digital watch for 17k? If so, I think there is a very good reason why this is the first. You don't spend 17k on a non-mechanical watch. That is like watches 101 stuff.

Even more so, 10K watch is really not a status symbol. For example, Jay-Z wears 5 million dollar Hublot. Insane? Sure but in the end of the day his five million dollar mechanical automatic watch will still be five million dollar timepiece and not some electronic garbage which Apple Edition will eventually turn into.

Are you sure about that? I know he's got some Richard Mille and Audemar Royal Oak Offshores. $5 million dollars? Does a $5m watch even exist? George Daniels watches don't even cost that, and they're about as elite as it gets (and they're not covered in diamonds!).

Apple Watch Edition video

From the Apple Watch Edition page,
http://www.apple.com/watch/apple-watch-edition/
there is a link to a video about the manufacturing process for the gold watches.

Video:

Similar to the Aluminum and Stainless Steel videos that were shown at the special event earlier today, except this video wasn't shown at the live event.

The yellow and rose gold alloys use "silver, copper, and palladium" according to the video.

Chopard makes a 25 million dollar watch, but it's because it's covered in giant diamonds. The most expensive watch u can buy where the value comes from the watch movement is the Vacheron Constantine Tour de I'lle (I believe).

Patek Sky Moon Tourbillion is also up there. I was lucky enough to be able to try one on, and it's a magnificent work of art and craftsmanship.

Of course the Patek Calibre 89 takes the cake, but it's a pocket watch, so I dunno if it counts.

This is the EXACT same watch is the $350 "Sport" version except the case is a different metal. OK gold costs more than aluminum but how much gold is in the case.

Gold is worth about $1,200 per oz. let's say 2 oz max.

What do you get for $8k?

Can I take the aluminum version to a plating company and gold plate it? I bet more than a few people will think about gold platting

38mm 18-Karat Yellow Gold Case with Black Sport Band — $10,000
38mm 18-Karat Yellow Gold Case with Bright Red Modern Buckle — $17,000

How in the hell is this bright red band worth an extra $7,000? Seriously, it's the same 38 mm 18 Karat Yellow Gold Case. The only thing different is the strap and the color on the digital crown.

I checked out the straps and accessories page, and the modern buckle (in brown, no gold) is $249, while the sport strap is worth $49.

Can anyone see any reason at all why this strap adds an extra $7,000 to the watch? Shouldn't this version of the watch be $10,249? Or $11,000 since it has gold accents?

Guess u don't know many watch guys then. :)
