I think you just about have me convinced.

Do you think they'll be available used or refurb by about July?

Anyone want to chime in on how long this thing gets?

Also, can't certain 15" models 8GB capable?

The 2008 and 2009 15'' 2.4GHz aren't confirmed for now. The late 2008 15'' 2.53 and 2.8 can't have 8GB, just 6GB. The early 2009 15'' 2.66GHz and 2.93GHz are able to handle 8GB, it has been confirmed this week in a few threads.

I see.

I think I'm just gonna save up a bunch of money and make my decision when I have it.... but I'm torn between the blackbook, the 15", and the 17".

I can also get a 17" hi-res 2.6GHz refurb for $1800.

Also i would not bother with the 17" 2.6 it looks ancient compared to the new 17". After selling my old one it was a lot more flimsier then my new unibody.

personally, i think you should get the new white plastic macbook or the unibody macbook. you can save a lot more money that way, and when you go into college, you can get a pro then. it seems like you arent taking advantage of what the pro can really do, and you say that you will one day - but by then a whole new macbook/macbook pro will be out and you'll want that im sure.

so bottom line - any macbook is good. i really think the pro is overkill for you. refurb macbook or current macbook.

Don't listen to any of the people in this thread telling you not to get it. If you want one and have the discipline to save for it, the power lies in your hands alone. Check my sig, I'm 16.

Don't get a white/blackbook. You'll be pissed off down the road because it isn't the latest thing.

I'm also 15, and I bought this (15" unibody) about three weeks ago and I am IN FREAKING LOVE WITH IT. I used to have a SR WhiteBook and it couldn't hold a candle to this. Definitely get a unibody MB(P).

Funny how you say you liked your dads 17" Toshiba when you were 10.

When I was 10, my laptop was a Toshiba Tecra 8000, but it had all these problems. For example, you'd have to physically hold the power cord inside the socket for it to charge, and the lid wouldn't stay up, it was just floppy. My dad had a 17" Satellite P20, and I thought it was the most awesome thing ever and I wanted it really badly.

When the craptop died completely, I had to share my moms HP zd7000 for a few years (my dad likes his computers to himself). Then I got the white MacBook for my birthday :D

Less than a year later, I sold it and bought the UMBP.

And thats my spontaneous life story.

Back from Bald Head Island, no internet there, sorry guys.

Thanks for your life story.... I don't know about my dad's laptop, it's just that he would kill me if I entered the room it was placed in, it always sat on a desk, was big and glassy, and ran this cool Da Vinci screensaver 24/7. It made it almost mystical.

That thing is an eyesore.
Then again, the P20 wasn't exactly a work of art either :D

Being a Mac user makes you look at PC hardware in disgust.
Whats with that black stripe on the Satellite A110?

From reading your posts it sounds like you have your heart set on the 17" I reckon go for it, end of the day your planning on working to get it which is very commendable, so if you're going to put in all that hard work then why not treat yourself at the end of it.

If you go for something else you may end up feeling like you've settled, with the amount of money you'll be spending even on a 15" that may end up spoiling your enjoyment of it and have a nagging doubt in the back of your head saying what if.

Hopefully come July time the refurb store will have 17" MBPs and you can save some money. Go with what your gut tells you at the time if you can afford it.

Best of luck to you and I hope you get what you really want dude.

If you like 17 inch's get one. I LOVE 15 inch's and I have used 17 inch's and did not like them. I saw no point in them. I can read 1920*1200 on 15 inch so I really see no point in a 17. I think that apple should at least offer 1680*1050 standard and 1920*1200 as an option on the 15 inch. The screens are so low resolution on every Mac except the 17 inch. The 15 inch is the worst resolution for its size. I do not like desktop monitors because they are so blurry because of the low PPI rating.

Glossy screens aren't as horrible as some posters make them out to be. I've used one for over three years and not had a single issue with it.

I agree. Glossy screens aren't as horrid as people make them seem. But honestly, if I had the choice between the two, I would take the Matte. I use a 17" Toshiba Satellite (Glossy) and a 15" Macbook Pro (Matte). And I can feel more into my work on the Matte...but that's just my personal preference.

I agree with runebinder. Honestly, if you are going to take it out of the house often, I would go for a high end 15". The 17" models are phenomenal computers, as I really would like one myself to replace this 1.5 GHz Toshiba, but I don't plan on purchasing one unless they pop up on the Refurb. site.

But like runebinder said, I would go with what you want becuase if we sway you in the other way, you may ponder on your purchase. I would work the summer, aiming for the 17" and then see what's available when you have the cash. Maybe you'll decide on the 15" and have extra $$$ to spare.

OP, good luck with your job...like you, I will be working my summer to pay for my car and new iMac. :p

Speakers and a volume wheel.

I like simplicity. I'm an Apple fanboy (see username).

The entire design of that laptop looks like a blank frame was placed on the wall and things like the volume dial were placed pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey style. The designer just closed his eyes and slapped it there.

Might up being the 15" as I have been given this and need to nurse it back to health!
